Anyone have any info on this pre-creed beauty? I was watching it, but the seller ended the listing.."no longer available." A collector's item for sure! Seems similar to the 9170 but with different dimensions.

An early version of the classic pouch. I have the smaller size from the same era.

Another of this style was talked about recently, but I cannot recall which thread nor find the posting. I do recall that this link was provided by another member...

I do not believe that this is an early version of the #9170, but a design evolution of a series of like proportioned slimmer saddle bags in a sequence in which the following piped-edge rendition was a part of...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-RARE...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

And yes, as with the tapered pouch design style of which the #9170 was part of, there appear to have been two sizes offered in this general style of bag. I've seen metal-tagged smaller versions with both a simple flap and a flap retained by a cross-bag belt. If I had my old laptop with me, I could probably find images of these as well as images of the smaller versions of the Classic Pouch.

My reasoning for believing that this bag is separate from the #9170 is partially based on the fact that the bag referenced in Catbird9's posting has a cartouche imprint which places it in the 1972-1974 timeframe. The initial #9170s (from 1971) had the earlier employed metal tags, which some of these approx 11"x11"x3" bags apparently did too. And given the plethora of styles released during the 1970-71 period, when the complicated BC designs were waning and the simpler unlined saddle designs waxing, I wouldn't be surprised by the parallel issuing of designs with relatively minor size and shape differences probably intended to enable an emerging company to test the market and hone its approach.

Someone rescue this Bonnie Cashin baby.. [emoji22]

Poor thing, but the value of this particular style has been trending downwards for the past year or so. Given the condition and color of the bag, even if one were to obtain it for "scrap" value, (IMHO) I doubt that the end result would be worth the time, effort, and/or expense of doing the necessary repairs unless one is just enamored with the design. The small "gift bag" styles, with their less-than-robust spaghetti straps, just seem to have fallen out of favor. A trend we've also seen as of late for double entry Swingers.

Oh no.. if you can't rescue it no one can. RIP little beauty. [emoji20]

Thanks for the compliment, but I was not implying that the bag was unsalvageable. Just that it had to be motivated as a labor of love.
So let's pretend that motivated person exists. The straps were made of harness leather, correct? I wonder if I could take it to my seamstress. [emoji848] He is really good and he restitched my liner on an Italian Coach bag and did a really good job. I'd have to supply him the harness leather of course if I can find it.

Ladies, what do we know of some Coach classics (originals??) made in 2005 in China... in some less than common colors? Say... eggplant/aubergine. I’ve come across three different bags in that color, a Station Bag, a City Bag and a Ramblers Legacy. How is the leather on those Chinese made bags and is the quality up to par?

I have a 2005 Rambler's Legacy in an unusual light blue. The leather is not the same quality as my 1999 Rambler's Legacy. It is kind of stiff, and didn't soften up no matter how much conditioner I used. It looks fine, just doesn't feel as nice. It isn't as bad as the leather used in 2013 classics. I had a 1999 Willis made in China that had great leather, so it isn't being made in China that is the issue. The problem is that Coach stopped using the best leather around 2003.

As you know, I’ve fallen insanely in love with my little 2000 Ramblers Legacy in Black/nickel and it’s just so perfect that when I came across a 2005 in what the seller is calling “aubergine” I thought maybe it was a mistake, but upon further googling, I discovered two other styles in that color. I don’t know that I would be happy with it if it was not as smooshy and huggable as the one I have. Like say, if it felt plasticky or something.

I’ve seen your blue one and think it’s precious and clearly you enjoy it as you’ve kept it.... but I suspect it’s because the color is rare?

I've kept it for the color. I really like how it looks and I use it enough. It doesn't feel plasticky, just stiffer. I love my 1999 Rambler's Legacy more but along with the softness of the leather, it also scratches easier. I don't carry it much because I want to keep it beautiful.

Am I crazy to want the same bag in multiple colors? I was thinking of maybe grabbing a court bag in gray but is that too small? Or perhaps a city bag? Omg why are all the older coach bags calling to me??

When you find a style that works for you, it isn't crazy to get it in multiple colors. For me, the Rambler's Legacy is more comfortable to carry than the court bag, or even the city bag. I don't find those skinny straps comfortable on my shoulder. I think the court bag holds about the same amount as the Rambler's Legacy. I'm not sure about the city bag. There are few styles that are a size up from Rambler's Legacy - the spectator bag and the pocket bag (not the pocket purse). They both have the same look, just a little bigger.
