Nice. Sorry/You're welcome  for the nudge. Twins!
For that price, I was hoping someone here would score it!
More importantly, when you decide to sell it, you won' t list it as a #9060 ;)
Edited to add, glad someone else feels it for BT too!

Hi, Lake Effect! I’ve been meaning to comment to you when I’ve seen you mention your lovely 99¢ Berkeley! I remember it because I had it on my watchlist & someone asked about it just prior to the auction end. I decided not to bid as I had made other recent purchase(s) & also figured others would be bidding.

I recently came across that old request for Authentication & thought you might enjoy seeing it if you haven’t already. Guess it was on Super Bowl Sunday 2017!

Hope this link works for you:

It’s wonderful to read the bag found a happy home with you!

Hi, RLB! I found this:
“Advertisment
Coach's Legacy of Style”
http://nymag.com/sponsored/coach/
The page (presumably from 2012) is a little wonky so you’ll need to scroll down to see it.
It, in part, says:
“... an update of the 1980 Dinky Bag renamed Penny...”
Not sure if it is something you’ve seen &/or is helpful in answering any questions but I liked finding it!
That's interesting. It implies that it wasn't called penny until then. I wonder why Jed said it was an old name? I wonder if there is any printed proof that the name was used earlier?
And the "1980 Dinky Bag" text is also puzzling given what the 75th Anniv brochure communicated (classic Dinky's 1973 intro).
9375 Dinky bag history.png
I too am holding out for something tangible too, like the sketches found in the paper "catalogs" from the 1970s. Previously I had only seen pre-creed versions of this Dinky-sized bag with the grommeted strap attachment. But given that the burgundy one shown in the previous post did have a creed + ###-#### serial, I'm confident that the style should appear in a sales document from that period. Now the challenge is to find it.

Now I'm beginning to wonder, was the removable strap version in fact the original rendition from 1973? The ones made in advance (1972) would then have metal tags, with subsequent production articles migrating from the cartouche imprint (in the two locations we've seen), to creed stamps (1974 or so) , to creed stamps + ###-#### (1977 or so). Then, perhaps in 1980, the strap changed to the sewn-on version, which would explain the NYMag article text. If this were the case, then one should not be able to find a classic Dinky that was creed-only, no number. So my new question to everyone is now "have you ever seen a classic Dinky that was identified with only a creed with no serial number?".

Just wanted to pop in and add that I recently picked up the Bonnie Cashin book by Stephanie Lake. I've only read a few pages but I'm really loving it so far; Cashin seems like a great inspiration for fashion and life, and looking at all the pictures makes me REALLY wish I could buy everything she designed.

I’m not sure but are you looking for an example like this?

There wouldn't by any chance be a picture of her early Dinky Bag with the detachable spaghetti strap, flap and turnlock, would there?

What would you ladies say is larger, the City Bag or the Patricia’s Legacy? I’ve been watching a couple of each style and sellers are listing both bags as being 11x8x4 which seems odd.

Wow, that's amazing that you recall that. What a memory we have when it comes to listings lol. I too have looked at many bags, but could not hit that bid button based on what I have. Your comment reminds me that I shouldn't be surprised that other people pass, no matter how cool the bag. The Crescent/Saddle/Berkeley Flap is not a large bag, so that is why people may have passed. I was just itching for a Berkley.
I was getting ready to leave for FL that afternoon. When I was in FL, the GW in my mother's town had at least a dozen vintage Coach, reasonably priced. I bought 3!
Thanks for the follow up:flowers:

The measurements according to catalog photos are:
City Bag 11.5 x 7.5 x 3.25"
Patrica's Legacy 11.5 x 10 x 4"

So the Patricia's is technically larger.

Thanks for the link. So now we have a chronological trace by method of identification for the Dinky-like bag with the grommet hole anchors for a removable double-strand spaghetti strap (metal tag, cartouche imprint, NYC creed only, NYC creed + ###-#### serial). So this design shows continuity from early to late 1970s (may I suggest 1973-1979 to align with some of the dates provided by or attributed to COACH). Now the task remains to find the method if identification employed on the earliest #9375 Dinky (with the sewn-on single-strand strap). I'm going to guess that it has a NYC creed + ###-#### serial and dates to 1980 (which would explain that year's mentioning in the NYMag article). So if anyone has seen a classic Dinky identified using an earlier method than that (which would poke a hole in my theory), I'd welcome seeing it.

Glad it was helpful!

I also found this current listing, NYC creed only in suede:

ETA: Just to note, the strap may be a replacement or a repair bc I’m seeing rivets on it.

Since I have both bags, I’d like to offer some thoughts in addition to Catbird9 posting the correct measurements in pp. While it does seem like there may be a little variation between what Coach lists as measurements and IRL, I do not rely on a seller ever for exact measurements. Goodwill was once 4 inches off on a description.
One thing I learned, bags with similar appearing dimensions in reality may hold slightly more or less depending on a flap opening versus zipper, if the zipper extends down the side of the bag, if the opening is straight across or rounded, etc.
The Patti (lol my nickname) is slightly heavier given it has a front flap that extends a bit longer and has the chunkier riveted strap and buckle hardware. I seem to able to pack a tad bit more in because of the front and back slip pockets, both covered by the flap. Just a thought if you have shoulder, neck problems, etc. as that weight can add up.
I like that I can double over the Patti strap to shorten it so I can hand carry, which I prefer with that bag. Yet the City has a long thin strap that makes it easier to carry cross body if want that.
Since up until recently I had been carrying a long wallet and quilted VB pencil case makeup bag (and a few other various items that I carried as they fit), it was a lot easier slipping them in and out of the City with that large flap opening than it was with the zipper opening of the Patti. Now I am using a shorter wallet and nonquilted small rectangular makeup bag, they go in and out of the Patti more easily. Along with everything else.
Hope this helps!

Thanks! That’s immensely helpful. I definitely prefer crossbody carry, and basically I’d be looking to carry the contents of my little Rambler’s Legacy, plus a small tablet (iPad mini size). It sounds like if it fits in my RL, it will fit in the city bag too, just with a little more wiggle room. And it sounds like the city bag will be less heavy to carry, so that might just be the perfect fit for days when I don’t want to carry my vintage daypack or I need a tiny bit more than RL can hold.

Thanks again!!
