Will any of you share how you tackle removing black shoe polish? I have one I really need to work on. I'm just not sure where to start.

What did you do with the back side? I have a bag like that, the back is noticeably stiffer and shinier, especially in the center, where it would rub more.Your collection is beautiful! I love how you've hung them on the wall.
I'll be interested to hear how it goes if/when you do tackle the black one. I rehabbed a very similar black Crescent Bag a while back. Only the back side was shiny and slightly hardened. I didn't think it was shoe polish because there was no smell. Why would someone only put shoe polish on the back side? It didn't make sense. My theory (wishful thinking maybe) is that it was caused by years of being worn against the hip and rubbing against clothing, especially jeans.
I just hand-dunked it as usual, a little longer soaking, and didn't use the acetone shoe-polish-removal treatment. Two or three applications of Leather CPR and one of Blackrocks, buffing with a horsehair brush after each round. I t didn't really make much of a difference though. I think once leather gets that burnished finish, you can't take it back to how it was before. What did you do with the back side? Thanks!

100% acetone and paper towels basically. Do it near an exhaust fan or outdoors. Then wash and condition the bag. Will any of you share how you tackle removing black shoe polish? I have one I really need to work on. I'm just not sure where to start.
I actually just washed my black one which I assessed had no shoe polish. I forgot that I never did rehab that one because it came to me clean. Anyway, it's much flatter and maybe a little less stiff on the back now. Many of the deep creases look better, but I still can't figure out why it's quite so shiny! And stiff.. I am going to try a multiple of conditioners to see if it softens some. But I can definitely live with it.What did you do with the back side? I thought someone else might also want one. I would have gotten one but I already have it. Too bad mine doesn't have tags. They were from 1996. There were four styles. Here is a picture of 3 of them. There was also a station bag. The Waverly is the hardest to find. Some were sold in gift boxes.Wow! What year was that from? I only need one![]()
