Hi, have a question about two vintage styles. What is the difference between the Sheridan line and the Madison vintage bags? They both appear slightly pebbled. Thanks for any info.

The Madison line is made of caviar leather like Chanel's, a more expensive and time-consuming manufacturing process. Sheridans are all-weather leather similar to Dooney and Bourke's. Both are equally durable in the rain. I have a caviar Chanel from 2005 (a hobo, not quilted) and carried it a ton this past winter with no problems. I also have a Madison Copley that I love (purchased due to my love of my Chanel caviar). So I guess it all comes down to personal preference.

This guide written by TPF's resident vintage Coach expert Hyacinth should help greatly with much more detail: http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Italy-Guide-Coach-Italian-Made-Bags-/10000000051492233/g.html

The best thing to do to understand those and other older styles is to read the six Salearea Coach Guides posted at Ebay. The one on Coach's Italian styles explains the differences but all of the Guides should be read together by anyone interested in classic Coaches, and the links saved or Bookmarked:

Thanks, forgot about the guides, they explain perfectly. I didn't realize the Madison's were introduced as early as '93. The ones I have seen seem to be in the '95, '96 and older range.

Yes, they do remind me of Chanel caviar leather, beautiful! I am surprised they didn't use solid brass on the line. I have read the comments on the hardware being hard to maintain. Would be nice if thee was more vintage catalogs out there for purchase.

I agree it is surprising they didn't use solid brass. I have other bags from the early 90s that have solid brass hardware.

So I'm really liking my Willis so far but the strap is a bit long when worn as a crossbody and the bag hits at my lower hip. Should this adjustment be something a cobbler might be able to fix?
You can have more holes punched in the strap but that is something you would have to disclose if you ever sold it. People don't like buying things that have been altered.

There is a way to double the strap if you want it a lot shorter. Or you could find a shorter strap to use.
