Hey y'all, I'm new around here but having a blast catching up. I'm wondering if anyone can point me to information on who originally designed the original leather duffle? Its one of my favorite Coach pieces and I'm curious to find out more about its history...

I don't know much about it. According to Coach.com, it might have been first made as early as 1971, when Bonnie Cashin was still working for Coach. It isn't a type of style that is usually attributed to Bonnie, as it doesn't have any of her trademark touches like kisslocks and turnlocks. For large bags, she usually designed those that had a slim silhouette. I think that Lillian Cahn contributed to some of the early designs. It really looks more like her style.

If you learn anything more, I'd like to hear.

Hmmm. I'll keep up the research, a Lillian Kahn design wouldn't be a terrible thing either :smile1: The duffle is still one of my favorite styles, so either way I'll be enjoying my vintage red duffle when it arrives this week :D

Coach was producing bags before Bonnie Cashin. From what I've read, they were very simple, basic styles like the classic pouch and the duffle and bucket bags, etc. Mrs. Kahn brought Bonnie Cashin in because they needed a good designer to build their brand and Mrs. Kahn was not a designer. Obviously, it worked! Bonnie's designs made Coach a household name which is why Meyers signed with her right after she left Coach. Meyers was known for producing very nice looking, very inexpensive (cheap) bags but their name never caught on like Coach although the vintage Bonnie Cashin for Meyers bags are getting pretty popular these days.

Despite my protests, the truth is that I am and have always been a Coach addict. Lets just say I have a "few" Coach bags. When it comes to style, I simply buy what I like. Mrs. Kahn passed away a couple of years ago so there should be some info on the web concerning her role with Coach. Try searching "The Full History of Coach," by Cheryl Cerelli who worked for Coach.

I love the Rambler's legacy bags. They're adorable! Here is my recent white Rambler's. Came in great condition so no need for a rehab.

Those ramblers are so cute!

And I cheated on Coach with this bag. A vintage Louis Vuitton Monogram Monceau.

So pretty! Isn't the size great? I was enamored when i saw a Monceau for the first time.

My absolute favourite style in a small Coach - the Derby. I've posted the Forest Green on the Rehab thread before but just wanted to show her off with her BT sister that I finished today.
