Looking for a bit of advice here. I recently purchased a small soho tote from eBay but the seller ended up sending me a different bag! (Same style, just different creed and hardware - i got it authenticated here so no worries there.) So I contacted the seller about the error and she offered to give me a partial refund (more than 50% of my winning bid) and have me keep the bag. The problem is I am not that keen on the silver toned hardware, so mostly likely the bag will get very little use.

I know the seller is supposed to send me a return label, but I feel bad about forcing the seller to accept the return because I know the shipping will cost more than the bag. And the bag she sent me in error is in fantastic condition... Has anyone tried to spray paint the hardware? Would it work?

You aren't obligated to accept her offer of compromise. You can decline it and request to return it. As long as the seller accepts the return and supplies the return shipping label, she won't get a defect on her account.

You shouldn't feel bad. Mistakes happen and sellers learn from them and verify that they're shipping the correct item. (I looked at the seller's other current and completed listings and didn't see a listing for the bag you received so I have no idea how the switch could have happened unless she stole another seller's pictures for the listing and didn't realize that it had a different color hardware.

Ahh ok thanks that’s good to know. I didn’t realize it was called parchment trim. I’m learning so much from you thank you so much! ☺
I just found out there is another variation on spectator bags, made around 1990, that are white with navy trim. It was called the nautical collection. I can't recall if I've ever seen any.

IMO, it wouldn't work to spray paint the hardware. Some people have completely removed the hardware and switched it out.

Thanks BeenBurned! I’ve been looking at the bag all day and as lovely as it is I know it’s not something I would have bought if I had known about the silver colour hardware. So I’ve asked the seller for a return label. I hope she understands. And hopefully the return goes smoothly.

Thanks whateve! It’s a much cleaner solution than spray painting! But I’ve never changed out hardware and I’m not sure I want to try to find matching hardware now (plus would it be possible to change out the zipper pulls…??).

So the last item of business I wanted to get done on this Ergo Shopper #9035 I bought at the end of the summer was to glue and tack down some loose piping where the piping joins on the handles (pardon the loose thread). Did that last night. When I had it out I was pretty amazed at how close a reconditioned 1998 toffee Ergo (official color) matches a barely (if at all) used late 70's (saddle ?) Shopping Bag!!! I'll post the Ergo and a few other bags I finished up my rehab on in the rehab thread.

That's the navy one, right? There were spectator bags made in the early 90s. Those had tabac trim. In 2001, they made a line of spectator bags with parchment trim, like your bag. There is a city, court, compact pouch and pocket purse that I know of. They came in three colorways, navy, wine, and camel, all with parchment trim. The court had the same style number as the earlier bags, 6870. The others had new numbers, 9667 (city), 9668 (pocket purse), 9669 (compact pouch).

Here's a Wayback page from April 2001 for the Navy with Parchment if anyone needs it.

There were some light-color Spectators in the Spring 1991 catalog, White with Black trim or the usual Spectator colors plus Bone with what was listed as British Tan trim. Nothing specifically called Nautical but maybe that was used for the 1990 collection. I only have a few 1990 and 1991 books.

When they came out with the Dakotas and Sheridans, at least on the early ones the trim was just described as Tan, no "British" at all. They also had a small Spectator line in the 1989 Fall Preview (Shown in the Vintage Coach Catalogs thread) and Holiday 1989 catalogs that they called Town And Country Classics in the Holiday book which they described as having Tabac trim. It looked lighter than the Tan on the 1991 Spectators and a LOT lighter then the "Tan" on the Sheridans and Dakotas, at least in my paper catalog photos. But they were using some weird lighting and dark, cluttered backgrounds in some of those books too.

Remember, "The most consistent thing about Coach is their inconsistency".

Sorry, I don't have a scanner to post copies.

So - if everyone is THOROUGHLY confused, my job here is done. byebye-1.gif
