Lake Effect, these photos are brilliantly helpful to see the colour comparisons, thank you so much . Taupe is a beautiful colour and think in person it’s going to look different in comparison to the post.
I was squinting at two coach vintage backpacks yesterday thinking to myself well that one is definitely not black. But it looks different colours throughout. I’ll attach a photo. It looks brown/grey. Think it’s been sun burnt or something but it’s changed colours.View attachment 5324373
Quite a respectable group you have! They did make a backpack in grey closer to 2000 if I recall correctly. And at the end of the day, unless you are the original owner, who know what they were exposed to or stored. And who knows the origin/dye lot of the leather and what it was subjected to.
I did get a black Plaza from around 1990 that was in great condition, but universally faded. I ended up using recolorant on it to restore it.

Early in my vintage exploration I bought a Patricia's Legacy off a listing with poor photos. I was expecting the deep mahogany brown and when it turned out to be taupe, I was surprised. It was not love at first sight and I took it to a local resell chain (they offered me so little, I thought I would rather donate it somewhere) and then I was ready to take it to a consignment shop who told me to come back later. At some point a few months after that, it grew on me. And became a staple!
If you go through the catalog photos posted in the Ref Library subforum, taupe was offered around '96. I will see if I can find a photo of my bag.

I think Taupe was more of a 1995 color, my '95 Willis is Taupe. It's one of those colors that grows on you since it's not really a BROWN brown ( I HATE!!! Browns!!!) but the Taupe doesn't bring back memories of the bags my mom bought for me when I was in high school. It's nicer than it looks in the catalogs, and it matches my favorite pair of winter boots too. :girlsigh:

Thank you ☺
interestingly when I moisturise it, it does go completely black but dries brown/greys lol. You’re absolutely right, I have no idea what it’s been subjected to. Will dunk it soon and maybe my first dye project. We shall see. Very envious on the Plaza whenever I see the plaza listed it’s usually incredibly pricey. Do you have a picture you’re happy to share?

A Taupe Willis sounds gorgeous, do you happen to have a picture? I saw a taupe Court and have to admit I fell in love lmaooo in the UK we don’t get as many colour options come up as often as in the US Taupes go with a great colour wheel of colours, like khaki, greens, oranges. Dare I say it, brown. :biggrin:Thank you for the picture and for sharing information of Taupe’s origin.
I can’t wait for it to arrive now. Hopefully she is taupe

Fingers crossed for you. If it is, I hope you like the color. No pictures though, I'm just not a camera person.

Here’s a post  Always happy to share this. Yes, this was back a few years ago when was it was more common to find online listings that just said vintage Coach bag and were listed for less than $75 …
This is one of my favorite vintage Coach finds, Plaza Large.

My taupe Willis was made in February 1996. I bought it mainly for the colour because the Willis isn’t a favourite. The colour is beautiful, especially with black and subdued, greyed-down colours.

Import charge, which is on top is £105

May I ask, which is your favourite? Or top 3?
I had to get a bag quick as my toddler and I were heading to my dads so I could teach him how to use the Mac I was giving him to use. My bag of choice was a Fanny pack and a super comfy laptop backpack. Made me reevaluate whether considering the attached bag is wise or not

That's interesting, and the color goes with just about anything including denim. Coach seems to have made colors for many of their vintage lines available for certain seasons rather than strictly by calendar years. So what we'd consider "winter colors" for some lines at least would be available during the Northern Hemisphere's Fall and Winter season extending from around September through the first 2 or 3 months of the next calendar year, which makes sense. We've seen those divisions in color availability for the early Madisons and other vintage lines too. Trouble is, that left everyone south of the Equator stuck with Winter colors when they were in the middle of their warm season.

These days it seems like the seasonal change in color availability is a lot smaller, especially since Coach does a lot more business now in countries where it's always Summer. They figured out that you have to give your markets what they want, WHEN they want it, and that New York City doesn't control the seasons for the rest of the planet.
