I love the look of the hasp bag but I've seen several where it looks like the metal is discolored and can't be polished back to looking nice. That scares me about getting one.

This is exactly my concern with my hasp bag. (I will post photos later, once the sun rises) My husband and I were looking at it yesterday. He has stripped lacquer off of many brass candlesticks and brass lights. He feels that the lacquer on the brass clasp is starting to peel. Theoretically, the lacquer could be stripped from the clasp and the clasp be left without the lacquer covering. It may, then, tarnish but wouldn't be any worse than the hardware on any other vintage bags. He said he would remove the lacquer for me if I wanted. He said this with a face that said, "Don't make me do this. I know you. You'll breath down my neck the entire time".

Roro, I am so happy to give someone a chuckle! I'm also very happy that my post was not taken in offense, I did worry about that! Do I sound bitter or antagonistic I wondered? I thoroughly enjoyed reading about how gorgeous she is! Thank you for sharing that! I will live vicariously through you when you are able to share the rehab journey. I love how small(ish), simple (with a hint of bling) and beautiful that bag is. Again, many congrats to you!

Certainly no offense! We have all learned to live vicariously through others' purchases. Thank you for your good wishes.

Found this NYC Classic Shoulder Bag (current style No. 9170) at a thrift store and fell for her hook-line-and-sinker! Wasn't until I got her home that I questioned the two-tone strap and the less than stellar workmanship on the strap. Have sent in a request for someone at TPF to give me a second opinion. Fingers crossed!

In 1997, Coach made a blue color with a purplish tint to it. Mine was NWT and the tag has what looks like BLU or BLV. I had thought it might stand for blue violet but it could be just blue. Those Goodwill photos look like the same bluish purple I have also made in 1997. Maybe they’ll re-list it, you never know!

I have just about every color Willis made and I researched like crazy to find colors by production year (catalogs, Wayback machine screenshots, etc.). I’m sure if one color has eluded me I will eventually find it. I’ve been surprised to see a new one every once in awhile but I’m starting to think there aren’t any colors I don’t have. Some of the more unusual colors were never documented and probably produced in limited quantities. I will not give up the search though!

I have not taken a complete photo of my blue Willis shades but here is my denim, pool, royal, and what I think is likely sapphire (BLV) Left to right. The royal blue has contrast white stitching and the sapphire has stitching that is just a little lighter than the bag. The best way to see colors is to look at the suede under the flap. I’ll have to do that in sunlight once winter is over.

-EDIT-

My Fletcher from 1997 (Costa Rica). Is this Sapphire? Royal? Navy? Your Chester is considered "Sapphire", correct?

The suede under the flap seems to be the same as the disappearing Willis from Goodwill. Also, the Goodwill Willis stitching did not seem to be lighter like your BLV Willis.

Will anyone please be kind enough to measure the exact width of the straps from the following bags:

Janice
9816 legacy slim bucket
Patricia

I need a longer strap for my small Courier (She's so preeeetttyyyyy!!!!) because it's not long enough for me to where as a crossbody.

That 1997 color was just called Blue, not Sapphire, but was actually very close to Navy. I don't have any record from that time period of a BLV color code. It's BLU and would just have been an abbreviation for Blue. The 1997 catalogs only show available Willis colors as Navy for Spring and Summer and Blue for Fall and Holiday.

Based on my scanned and paper catalogs, Sapphire was a color name possibly only used for the Classic Brights color palate in early 1993 and had been dropped by the end of that year.

I love this! I wish I could find one at a thrift!

The unicorn must exist then! It's a holiday blue Willis! ;)

Thank you Hyacinth! As always, your input is always appreciated!

I have a small courier. Here it is with the 9816 strap. I have a custom strap for it too. The custom strap is more comfortable but the 9816’s strap grommets add a little extra something even though the fit is a bit snug. It measures 1-1/8th inches in width:

Hope this helps :)

Please show creed pics and serial number date codes when asking about color names, Coach usually changed colors according to the SEASON, not necessarily the calendar year.

The Chester WAS available in Sapphire, but it would have been made in early 1993. Sapphire had been dropped by late 1993, it doesn't appear in any other color list I can find. "BLU" in a 1997 bag stands for BLUE.

I saw the same info on the catalog as well. There are many shades of blue but this one has a purplish cast to it. Not officially sapphire but looks close.
