I think the Originals from Boutique stores are full grain, I have a couple turn lock belt bags, the leather is nice , thinner than vintage bag leather but definitely full grain, attention to details is better too, also most 1941 newer bags are full grain too.
Now outlet start to promote their version of Originals. Only say natural pebble leather, judge by photos , they are less quality.
ETA: @houseof999 knows 1941 bags well, hope she will give us her expert opinion . The several 1941 bags I got all are full grain.
In my understanding from reading the Coach screed... 1941 leathers are not full grain. They are all embossed with "GENUINE GLOVETANNED LEATHER" or "GENUINE GLOVETANNED PEBBLED LEATHER". I think they are top-grain leather. I need go revisit the article. I am not sure what they used for the originals but I had seen a listing where the leather lining had peeled with use. If they used the same leather as the vintage Coach then it wouldn't have leather lining. They would be unlined suede.

Here is my new pretty of the day, a daypack in ink/dark purple! It really only looks purple in the sun, at least for these aging eyes, haha! I now have 3 daypacks and it all happened fairly suddenly, sooo I gotta stop now, lol. They really do seem to multiply on their own.

Beautiful! Congrats! You'll have to take a group pic now for us to see!

That’s interesting. I had a 1941 dinky from boutique (retail) & the leather was subpar. When I see 1941 retail bags on Ebay & Poshmark, they have “genuine glove tanned leather” stamped in the gold writing. I was under the impression that meant it wasn’t full grain, because its “genuine”? Yea, Id love to see what House says. She has a lot of 1941/originals bags!

Just pull out a 1941 saddle 23, the lining is not full grain, but exterior leather is, I can see the leather pores. Also stated in the creed too, word full grain is just beneath the bag symbol

ETA: the Originals turn lock belt bag is mini, with a mini creed., no word of full grain, but leather pores are very visible, usually the indication of full grain leather.

Received my $45 bottle green carousel today!! I only purchased it to get the strap because I thought the bag itself was super ugly from the pictures. Now that I have it in hand, I actually really like how it looks & I don’t see myself parting with it, lmao. It doesn’t show any major signs of wear but Im still gonna dunk it to re-shape. Really pretty tea rose charm courtesy of @LunaSilver :

I'm even more confused. Creed says full grain but the outside says genuine glovetanned leather. Why not say the same on both?

Wow, how interesting. So if it’s stamped “genuine glove tanned leather” on the part that’s supposed to be full grain, what makes it genuine? If its supposed to be full grain, then the top layers of the leather hide wouldn’t be removed so it can’t be “genuine”. This is based on what I read in the Screed article. It’s ironic that coach would stamp “genuine” on what is supposedly “full grain” leather. I hope this doesn’t sound like Im arguing, Im not. A real full grain leather hide wouldn’t be genuine leather so coach is clearly labeling something wrong. Either the gold letter stamping or the creed.

See? This is why they can't be trusted. You really don't know... But now they are telling you about another type of leather that will last the next 20 years?

In the creed says genuine glove tanned leather too, but veriations are character of full grain leather, I think Coach means to say it is real glove tanned, not other tanning method. Usually genuine leather means split leather, but some leather goods companies do use term of Genuine Leather on their full grain leather products, especially if such companies have some ties with Italian Tannery. Roots is an example, they used to make leather goods in Canada, but now moved to China, "Genuine Leather" is part of their logo , their vintage bags mostly full grain, and ages very well, silimiar to Coach.
ETA: while still made in CAnada, Roots used very good quality full grain leather imported from Italy, rumor said the same tannary Hermes use, not sure about nowadays since they moved everything to China. I still have several Roots bags, leather is nice and thick, but craftsmanship is little less than Coach.

Coach is now advertising on their site, for some bags, probably the New Ergos, that they are using “Original Natural Leather” implying it is what they used for vintage bags. I wonder if it is really the entire full grain leather hide? Then they add, it will last for generations (we got that!). And top it off with a shot that looks like it was from 2016 promo featuring Debi The Restorer dunking a bag with a comment about the unique level of care and craftsmanship. They got themselves some crack marketers.
That being said, I saw the reissued in blue/azure in Macy’s with brass and it was stunning.
Saw on YT that “Original Glovetanned Leather” is Coach’s way of saying it is sustainably made. Instead of chrome tanned, it is veg tanned. Not sure if one is more environmentally friendlier over the other but apparently that’s what they are promoting with this new branding. Lol at crack marketers though

The willis handle has the dowel so it doesn’t do the same floppy thing that the station does. I love my grey willis so much that I purchased another one in a different colour! I never thought Id be a willis fan, I used to think it looked like a man’s briefcase lol!
Interesting. I only have my fake Willis and the dowel really bugs me because it’s heavy enough that it drags the top handle backwards. Then because it does that, when I access my phone in the back pocket, the dowel bumps my hand. :annoyed: Maybe coz the fake ones are made worse, I don’t know. Glad you like your Willis though. It really is a smart looking bag.

Unfortunately there is a quality issue, I seems can’t solve the problem of colour transfer, so the charm making is on hold for the time being. Will really hate myself if the charm I made ruin other TPF’er bag. I sent out warning messages to everybody already. Thanks.
