I think a tutorial is needed on whipstitching....because that is seriously cool.
I learned by watching 80 something year old men on YouTube...OVER AND OVER AND OVER. And practicing on scrap leather. The style of "Lacing" or "Stitching" on the three sides is called a double loop lace and along the top is a true whipstitch. A friend of mine who makes leather handbags and accessories by hand jokes that we should start a Women Working With Leather type channel. Her talking about sewing and cutting leather, me how to do decorative stitching

What did you use for the dye?

I custom mixed. It was Fiebing's Navy Blue (only blue dye on hand) mixed with LOOOTS of alcohol to dilute the color (about 1/10 dye and 9/10 alcohol) with a DROP of Fiebing's Kelly Green leather dye. The edges didn't take so I had to concoct a leather paint/puffy paint mixture. I could not tell you my mixture for that because it was alot of trial and error to match the dye (I was using what I had on hand)

I owned TWO of these bags several years ago. It is such a gorgeous style but HEAVY (in a good way - strong leather and legit hardware). I sold them because I couldn't wear it crossbody which would help alleviate some of the weight

Off topic but I remembered that you have the white Quincy that you customized with pins and such and I wanted to ask you, do you spray your white bags with anything to prevent denim and clothing colour transfer? I remember reading you did but it was so long ago that I can’t be sure

I purchased a leather spray from Cadillac that has a silicone base. I had read it is supposed to help with transfer. I haven't carried that Quincy out and about yet as I haven't really been out and about other than for groceries! I'm hoping I can carry her some day soon :)

I think I am going to have to bust out the mixing tray for my lunch box, my experiment of incessant CPR doesn’t seem to have worked based on what I saw today.

I got the courage to bid on a bag and two hours later the seller cancelled the bid and listing saying it was no longer available. She had it on Etsy for far more.
Lost my confidence to bid for the moment.
Ok with making offers but always wonder if I could have got something cheaper. I usually ask for at least 10% less

I hate offers when it is something I really want. I'm afraid someone else will get it before me. I like BINs the best. With auctions, I either forget to bid when the auction is ending or I second guess myself as to whether I really want it. I also wonder if maybe if no one bids will they relist it for less, so am I stupid to be bidding at this price? That's what I was thinking when I bid on my recent Bal. It wasn't as much of a bargain as it could have been.

A couple weeks ago, I had my eye on a vintage casino bag. I hate top handle bags but this one looked cute so I waited until the auction was about to end and placed my bid. Someone outbid me at the last possible second and I couldn’t enter a higher bid in time. The guy who won didn’t even get the bag yet and just took the auction’s pictures and created his own listing for double the price. I get it, people wanna make their profit but I was pretty salty for a few days after that lol. That could have been my bag! I feel you, I hate auctions because when you lose, it’s disappointing. I avoid them on purpose but doesn’t hurt when you find something good. I hope you left that seller some negative feedback! I can’t stand people who don’t follow through on a sale :annoyed:
