I only sell bags don't work for me as well. Sometimes even loose a few bucks because the global shipping price plus import tax paid at buying.
I would only sell in Nz...so it would be Trademe here in NZ if I was to...and if I was confident enough to use that format. But this online consignment store is easy to use and I like the format and NZ only.

I am very new to this game, just start to sell on eBay. So far sold 2 bags but one was cancelled. Buyer didn't notice item located in Canada, shipping was too expensive for her. That is 50 percent cancellation. How could anyone bid on eBay without look at shipping cost first?
I'm a new seller too and it sounds like we've had about the same luck with buyers. When I have a problem with a sale, I make sure to address whatever the issue was in my next listing and I try to make every listing better than the last one. Better pictures, better description, space out the sentences, use graphics in photos to highlight flaws, try to think like a buyer and not a seller, etc. One of these days I'm going to be good at this! I just hope my buyers are patient with me until I get there. With my last two sales I contacted the buyers to once again explain the flaws in the bag BEFORE I shipped it. One of them said she didn't care and still wanted the bag, the other one wanted a refund. I'm ok with that. I didn't lose money on shipping and my buyer was apologetic and thankful that I made contact with her first. I do wish buyers would pay more attention to the details though. I lost the sale on the second bag, there were several bids on it. I haven't re-listed because I have to figure out how to make it a better listing but I haven't had time this week.

What vintage bag would you recommend that is a crossbody and would hold an iPad air? Thinking of surprising my daughter for her birthday. (She will be turning 12). I would like her to have a nice bag for it that is sturdier that current store things for tweens and somewhat timeless.

I would recommend City, style # 9790, just the right size for iPad air, big opening easier to get it in and out, also rear exterior slip pocket for quick access to her phone. The style looks more sleek and modern than lots other vintage Coach bags.
ETA: Another thing to consider is to take the bag to your local Coach store have it customized with embellishments like flowers etc.

Thanks for all the good tips. Wish all sellers on eBay would be like you.

This is exactly why I decided to slow down on the buying myself. So far I haven’t wanted to part with any of my bags yet but there are definitely a few that get very little use due to a change in what I have to carry on a daily basis. I think I might end up just donating or giving the bags away when I’m ready to part with them.

That’s also why I’m so glad to have come across this forum - it’s nice to come here to chat about and see pictures of beautifully restored vintage bags.

You'll find great tips over on the Rehab and Rescue thread but since you asked here, I'll give you a quick run down of what I do. First, I vacuum the bag out. You probably don't have to do that since you've owned your bag for a while but I buy lots of bags on ebay and sometimes they come with surprises in the pockets.

Next, I rinse the bag under warm water, gently scrubbing it with my fingers and I apply dish soap directly on any dark spots, massaging it in. Sometimes the spots come right out, sometimes not. But I always try. I wear gloves so I don't turn my hands fancy colors. After a minute or two, I plug the sink and add dish soap and then I soak the bag for about 15 minutes. I scrub it again with my fingers after 15 minutes. I then drain the sink, fill it again with just water, and soak for another minute or two. Then I thoroughly rinse the bag under warm water until all the soap is gone. I let it sit in the sink to drain some of the water off and then I pat it dry with paper towels, stuff it with dry cloth towels to shape it, and I position it appropriately to dry, sometimes laying it flat, sometimes hanging it, depending on the style of the bag. My bags usually stink when they're wet but don't worry, this will dissipate as the bag dries.

If the bag has thin leather straps or other details, I often condition those after just a few hours because they dry much faster than the rest of the bag. For your city bag, I would condition the strap after maybe 6 hours, give or take. Your home environment will affect how fast the bag dries. I will usually apply the first coat of Leather CPR to the entire bag while it's still somewhat damp but not wet. I don't let the leather completely dry anywhere on the bag without at least one coat of conditioner, I don't want to risk the leather cracking.

I then apply one coat of CPR about every 24 hours until the bag is well conditioned. As a final step, I add Blackrocks, which adds a beautiful finishing touch to the leather. That's it!

This isn't an exact science and many of us have our own techniques. In my opinion, the most important thing to do is not allow the bag to dry without conditioning. One time I poorly timed when the bag would need its first coat of conditioner and I wasnt going to be home in that several hour time frame so I conditioned the bag while it was more wet than I usually like. It turned out fine!

Thank you for the detailed info, I do appreciate you taking the time to explain your technique,

Perfect example of how the same color can appear completely different under different lighting.

Brown looking like purple has fooled me dozens of times too, it's a common problem with Ebay listings. The overhead shot shows the brownish or Mahogany tinge pretty clearly. AFAIK, there wasn't any purple shade available in 2002.

Ok, so my dispute with ebay has finally closed but I am still a little confused about what this seller was trying to do. She sent me a partial refund on Friday and escalated the case. EBay said I had to wait 48 hours for a resolution, so I did. When 48 hours came and went with no word from the seller or eBay, I sent the seller a message asking for a full refund, not a partial refund. Seller said they did give me a full refund and said the second payment should go through in a few minutes. I asked why the refund was in two installments and got no answer. Another 24 hours went by still with no refund and no word from eBay so I finally called them and I had my refund in minutes, case closed. What the heck just happened? Did that seller really think I would forget about almost half my money and let her keep the bag too? I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that the payment was delayed because it was a Sunday but I'm not sure I believe that. I refunded one of my buyers on a Sunday night and they got their notification of a refund right away. This whole case was so bizarre. And should I leave negative feedback?

i would leave negative feedback along the lines of “condition worse than pictured, ebay forced refund”. Possibly ebay took the money from the seller so she knew you were getting a refund and then it showed in your account?? Really can’t say, it’s weird.

Feedback is up to you. I think that since the seller was particularly difficult, she deserves whatever feedback you give. Not only didn't she accept your return, she argued with you, accused you of damaging the bag, and ebay was required to step in to ensure you got your refund. I'm sure she got a defect on her account.

Here is one possible scenario. The seller decided to refund you but only had some of the money in her paypal account and the rest was in her bank account. The money from the bank account could take several days. Personally I think this is a bad practice. I always keep enough money in Paypal to cover any possible disputes until I either receive feedback from buyers or a few weeks have passed. I really doubt this is what happened though, because if the seller had planned on giving you a full refund she wouldn't have escalated the case. If she had agreed to the return, she would have just checked a box, which would have given you a return label. Then when she got the return back, she would have checked another box to release your refund.

Did you return the bag? Did ebay give you a return label?
