^Lol yes that is Allie, she does look sour-faced in that shot...

Regarding the OPs situation, i can see both sides. I get that SHE was told by her SA that the item COULD be held for her and she knew no different about "rules" regarding sales merch and therefore is understandably upset. I also see that if another SA took it to sell to her customer that was maybe there and ready to pay that she would of done that to keep HER customer happy and to gain the commission, it is like every man (or woman) for themselves. The SA shouldn't of given her mis-information and perhaps the other SA shouldn't of been so quick to remove a "held" item off another SAs rack before discussing with that SA first...

This is basically what I'm upset about. I think that the other SA should have spoken to my SA first and asked if the client was going to be purchasing the jacket. If not, then she/he could ask if they can take it for their client. Whatever the rules, I just couldn't imagine myself taking someone's hold merchandise to sell to someone else. Especially when there was a 2 day tag on the hanger with my name and number and the dates were not expired! I had another pair of pants with the jacket being held too and those were still there!! I have since bought them haha. I don't wanna go through this all over again.

However, my SA is almost 100% sure that whoever took my jacket, bought it for themselves and didn't sell to another customer. How would the customer have even known about it or asked for it since it was in the back, ya know?

Anyway....I have definitely learned my lesson and will not take the chance again.

Maybe they found one on the floor in a different size and asked an SA if there were any in the back in the correct size? Maybe they'd seen it online or at another store in a different size and came to that store to try to find it. Really there are many ways a customer could have come to ask for it. Heck, maybe they'd seen it a few weeks back and were coming back to see if it was still available. In the end, I really don't think it matters if you had a "2 day tag" on it or not because you'd had it on hold for longer. If I were a customer requesting a specific item, willing to pay the current price at that moment, I would be frustrated if it weren't offered to me in this situation. I really don't think anyone is "wrong" in this situation, it's just one of those crappy situations where no one wins. Just remember, like everyone keeps saying, there will be something better soon that will make you forget about this jacket!

^^ I was giving this some thought. If you still really want the jacket, you should stalk eBay. That is what I do when something sells out in-store that I cannot live without, and I generally always end up getting said item. Persistence.

I'm sorry but no, Saks is not in the wrong here. Your SA was trying to do you a favour - in fact, she was doing something that is frankly against store policy. They do not owe you a gift card for any amount. There really is not a situation to rectify here. Unfortunately, things are taken from SA's hold shelves by other SAs all the time. It's just part of the business. I've had this happen to me multiple times, and at the end of the day I just moved on. There are bigger issues.
I agree that Saks itself is not wrong here.

I have been on both sides of this issue. I was a designer SA at Bloomie's back in the day and our manager made it completely clear that if you didn't adhere to the reserve rules that another SA had the right to sell your hold out of the back.

None of the SAs were friends, needless to say, and it was very competitive.

I have also wanted things held for me for pre-sale and usually a SA apologizes but says they can't do it, or they can only do it for 'x' hours. I haven't had anyone try and break rules for me, and if they did I suppose I would be disappointed but it wouldn't be anyone's fault. I feel like if I want it that badly I won't take a risk.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate it :smile1:

:hugs: I just understand exactly how you feel! It is horribleeee to find something that looks perfect on you and that you can't stop thinking about and then to have it swept out from under you! It may just be a jacket, but it is so hard to find the 'one' that makes you feel confident...don't worry, you will find an even better one I am sure!

That's what it comes down to.

I am wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else here. I am soooo livid, soooo disappointed, and as weird as it may sound, just downright sad over this. Over a jean jacket, yes, a jean jacket!

So here's the story. Last week my SA who I always work with at Saks was holding a Current Elliott jean jacket for me. I absolutely went crazy over this jacket. It looks perfect on me and was on sale for 40% off. She said though that she could hold it for me because she thought the price would go down on it even more this week. She's a very good SA and because I buy from her a lot she tries to get me the best deals on items which I very much appreciate. Anyway she told me that she is only allowed to hold items for 2 days so she has to keep switching the ticket and changing the dates. Please note that she never once mentioned the Saks policy for holding sale items.

Anyway I spoke to her yesterday and she said my jacket was still there waiting for me and if the price doesn't drop by the end of the week, come by and get it. I was actually thinking of just going yesterday to purchase because i also had a $100 gift card from spending money at Saks a couple months ago and i was concerned that someone would take it. It was just too cute for people not to take a 2nd glance! Did I listen to myself and go there? Nope!

This afternoon she called me to say that my jacket was TAKEN from her area in the back and that she had searched all over the store for it and could not find it at all! I was FUUUUUUMING  I asked how can it be gone if it had a hold sign on it?? I then decided to run over to Saks and speak to her in person because I didn't want to talk on the phone. I was literally holding back tears because I absolutely ADORED this jacket and because I was thinking I can save, I dunno, an extra $30-$50, it was now gone.

I get to Saks and speak with my SA as well as her co-worker. They told me, (never before when it mattered) that this has happened to them a lot. They hold a sale item for a good customer only to have it be taken by a locator for the store. I asked what a locator was. They said people who come in and search the store from corner to corner to find items that either people requested or ordered from another location. To be honest I am still confused over that. I said how can they just help themselves to an item on a hold rack with a sign that says it's being held for another customer?!!? Because it was a sale item and SA's aren't allowed to hold sale items. So what does that mean!? The customer doesn't know this policy so screw them, they are out of luck because their SA failed to tell them the store rules on holding merchandise?

I really don't know what to do. Unfortunately neither I nor my SA write down the item name or sku number and so she couldn't do a search for it on the computer. She said one of the managers who should know the details of the jacket can look tomorrow, but basically, I'm sh*t out of luck and lost the jacket because my SA failed to tell me policies

Oh and another thing, they don't think it was another SA in the store who took it but I wouldn't be so sure. My friend who I told this all to thinks it probably was some *****y SA who took it for their client.

I'm thinking of calling Saks corporate and complaining. They should give me a gift card in the amount of the jacket to correct the situation, am I wrong?!!?

Has this happened to others here? I'd love to know your thoughts. Thanks.

No, Saks isn't wrong and I think you're being very unreasonable in expecting financial compensation. If you wanted the jacket so bad you should have bought it right away instead of playing "maybe if I wait the price will drop more" games.

as we all know many SA's are underhanded with regard to selling merchandise that

is on someone's "hold bar".. there are not as many professsional courtesies extended

to customers much less co-workers.. lesson to be learned.. when you see something

that is the time to buy it.. he who hesitates is lost especially in the world of merchandise

that is on "sale"...and if the manager removed the sale item from a SA's associate hold

bar to sell to an at the moment "paying customer" they are there to do the #'s.. like

it or not...
