Venting - TERRIBLE service at Saks Fifth Ave

The jacket was a sale item and you didn't pay for it, so even though your SA was 'trying' to reserve it for you, they don't do holds for sale merchandise so you have no entitlement to the jacket. You should have paid for it right off if you wanted it so bad. Your SA made a mistake telling you to wait. What does it matter if Saks can look up who the last sale was? The item wasn't yours, you hadn't paid yet. It was up for grabs, basically.

And why would Saks owe you a gift card? Not getting that.

I very clearly stated that I was venting yesterday so what don't you get about the gift card? I was angry.

Anyway my SA's manager on her floor is completely on both my side and hers. She said that it was most likely another SA who took it from a different floor and sale item or not, no one is allowed to take anyone's item off a hold rack and sell it to someone else without asking permission. SA's hold sale items all the time for customers. Whether or not it's a rule that you shouldn't, everyone does at some time or another and most of the managers overlook it. My name was on the hold tag with my phone number and it was not expired. So the person who took the jacket for themself or to sell to another customer was completely 100% in the wrong. :nono:

Sorry but IMO you're wasting energy and emotions on something that does not matter. It makes no difference who sold it. It's gone.

Well the only reason I was curious is because my SA told me today that she wanted to confront the other worker about it. I was like BE MY GUEST!!! You tell them!!! :p

I know it's gone and whatever, I don't really want to think about it anymore. I just feel bad for my SA because she feels she's at fault even though I've told her to please not worry about it anymore. Soon I'll be buying fall and winter jackets instead :graucho:

That is the spirit! On to the next! :graucho:

I get you're angry, but you're placing too much emphasis on the aspect of the item 'being on hold' for you. It really means nothing. If you didn't pay for it, you don't have any rights over it. It belongs to the store. If you see an item, you just need to buy it within the same business day of putting it aside. I've never even heard of a store holding an unpaid item for days. Sounds like the SA got too chummy with you and wasn't being professional.

And I just didnt get why corporate saks would get involved. They aren't going to care an item you wanted but didn't pay for got sold to another customer. If anything, the SA would likely be reprimanded for being unprofessional.

Maybe call back current Eliot and see where else the item is sold and try another retailer.

OP, perhaps you should PM a mod and request that your thread be locked/closed since the issue is already dead and done, so to speak. After all, the jacket is long gone, and you stated you're just going to find something else entirely different.

The lesson here is if you love something that much, get it while it's there.
I can't tell you how many items have not become mine because I decided to wait for one reason or another.

The manager and SAs are on your side because they have to be. You're a customer so unless you are completely out of line, they are going to side with you (whether or not they think you are right). It's definitely frustrating, but it's not the end of the world. I'd just take it as a lesson learned and in the future if you have an item you want so badly, don't hold the item for the extra potential savings. But as jenay keeps saying, don't focus on this lost jacket anymore, start focusing on the next item and you'll forget about this soon!

Saks SAs aren't "supposed" to hold sale items for more than a few days without ringing it up with a charge over the phone anymore. I remember a few years ago my SA was able to hold tons of stuff before the additional markdown and now she will "try" to hold stuff for me but always prefaces it with a "my rack may be cleared out." So far I haven't had an issue with stuff being cleared but you never know - this last time, I just gave her my CC info and she rang everything up and held it as paid, and then when the price dropped she returned/re-rang it a few days later. It's really disappointing and I feel for you. Unfort, stuff isn't "yours" until you pay for it.

I am wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else here. I am soooo livid, soooo disappointed, and as weird as it may sound, just downright sad over this. Over a jean jacket, yes, a jean jacket!

So here's the story. Last week my SA who I always work with at Saks was holding a Current Elliott jean jacket for me. I absolutely went crazy over this jacket. It looks perfect on me and was on sale for 40% off. She said though that she could hold it for me because she thought the price would go down on it even more this week. She's a very good SA and because I buy from her a lot she tries to get me the best deals on items which I very much appreciate. Anyway she told me that she is only allowed to hold items for 2 days so she has to keep switching the ticket and changing the dates. Please note that she never once mentioned the Saks policy for holding sale items.

Anyway I spoke to her yesterday and she said my jacket was still there waiting for me and if the price doesn't drop by the end of the week, come by and get it. I was actually thinking of just going yesterday to purchase because i also had a $100 gift card from spending money at Saks a couple months ago and i was concerned that someone would take it. It was just too cute for people not to take a 2nd glance! Did I listen to myself and go there? Nope!

This afternoon she called me to say that my jacket was TAKEN from her area in the back and that she had searched all over the store for it and could not find it at all! I was FUUUUUUMING  I asked how can it be gone if it had a hold sign on it?? I then decided to run over to Saks and speak to her in person because I didn't want to talk on the phone. I was literally holding back tears because I absolutely ADORED this jacket and because I was thinking I can save, I dunno, an extra $30-$50, it was now gone.

I get to Saks and speak with my SA as well as her co-worker. They told me, (never before when it mattered) that this has happened to them a lot. They hold a sale item for a good customer only to have it be taken by a locator for the store. I asked what a locator was. They said people who come in and search the store from corner to corner to find items that either people requested or ordered from another location. To be honest I am still confused over that. I said how can they just help themselves to an item on a hold rack with a sign that says it's being held for another customer?!!? Because it was a sale item and SA's aren't allowed to hold sale items. So what does that mean!? The customer doesn't know this policy so screw them, they are out of luck because their SA failed to tell them the store rules on holding merchandise?

I really don't know what to do. Unfortunately neither I nor my SA write down the item name or sku number and so she couldn't do a search for it on the computer. She said one of the managers who should know the details of the jacket can look tomorrow, but basically, I'm sh*t out of luck and lost the jacket because my SA failed to tell me policies

Oh and another thing, they don't think it was another SA in the store who took it but I wouldn't be so sure. My friend who I told this all to thinks it probably was some *****y SA who took it for their client.

I'm thinking of calling Saks corporate and complaining. They should give me a gift card in the amount of the jacket to correct the situation, am I wrong?!!?

Has this happened to others here? I'd love to know your thoughts. Thanks.

It must have been frustrating and annoying for you, especially as you were thinking of picking up the jacket this week but felt reassured by the SA. I don't think it's anyone's fault.

Similar things have happen to me but now I know a) if I really want something I better just get it, even if that means full price b) For you and me it maybe that HG thing we have always dreamed about but for everyone else involved it's just merch and c) something better is always just around the corner :graucho:
