Maybe I'm crazy (which is of course 100% plausible :lawl:) but I completely understand and empathize with OP! I'm pissed for you! We are not talking about "rules" here...I cannot believe that there seem to be so many sticklers! What, no one has EVER driven 1 mph over the speed limit??? Would you not complain about a cop who gave you a citation for going 1 mph over the limit or because you un-belted your seat belt to remove your jacket while you were stopped at a red light? :police: :nono:

We are talking about a very good customer who spends quite a lot at a store and who is valued by her SA AND SAKS. Rules are bent all of the time in every circumstance, and I don't feel like we should make OP feel bad because her SA was naughty and bent the rules for her favorite customer. No business wants their staff to be stabbing each other in the back for an extra sale, especially when it means that the customer who got screwed will resent the company for it-OP SHOULD get some type of "We're sorry, please forgive our robbing staff and come back anytime!" gift!

Regardless of the jacket (which I would be super pissed about losing, especially because you really wanted it!), it is a disappointing situation to be in. Of course you will fall in love with other/better jackets and you will move on, but I'm sorry OP!

Held items are never a guaranteed sale, which is why holding a sale item is against policy. A store will ALWAYS take an immediate sale over a hold, no matter what the SA attempted to do, and no matter how good the customer. The best policy if you ever get something placed on hold for you is to get to the store ASAP, preferably the same day while the SA you spoke to is still there. Otherwise almost no retail stores make it a policy to hold sale items, and there is no recourse against another employee who sold it our from under you and the SA who held it. Sure you may be able to find out who it was, but what does it matter? The jacket is gone and the SA who sold it didn't technically do anything wrong.

the stores are in business of selling merchandise on sale

not holding it... be it a good customer or not.. it is disappointing

but nonetheless the above poster is right...we all have had enough

experience to know, that when you want something that is the

time to buy it... he who hesitates is lost....

shopping is no longer the way it was years ago when a good client

would be accomodated or an adjustment would be made on a sale

item from the first markdown to the second... these are

different selling times...we all have learned over the years

shopping in stores is very different today from the way it was

several years ago when a good client would be accomodated..

when an adjustment would be given from the first markown to

the second... its a different time in retail now..many of us

know or have learned by an experience like this, when you see it

buy it.. SA's make commission and they will sell to make their #'s

you have to buy it when you see it... stores just don't hold

merchandise or do things the way they used to... I don't like it

either, but that's how it is now... unfortunately..if the OP

thinks she was not treated fairly, she should call the store

and speak with the store manager and share her thoughts about

her disappointment!!

I understand the importance of customer/SA relationship and I know rules are "bent" all the time when a SA wants to save something for his/her loyal customers; However, sale items are never a guarantee and as a buyer, I would be very annoyed if the store shows the item as available and I'm standing there with cash in hand ready to buy, but can't because it's being held for someone else against store policy for a longer period of time so that buyer can save a few more dollars.

I don't think anyone here is trying to make OP feel bad, but people are just saying next time when you see something you love and you can afford it, go ahead and get it so you won't lose out something you love over a few extra dollars. I'm sorry OP didn't get the jacket she wanted, but I too, hope she will find another jacket that's even more fabulous than this one :smile1:

there will always be another jacket.. next time you see something.. if it's a price you can afford then get it right then and there.. if not, then you just have to take your chances with it being there when/if it goes on sale

How can one be upset over "losing" something one never really had to begin with?? It was never hers. She didn't buy it! If she had purchased it, and left it there to be altered or something, and they re-sold it, that would be justification enough to be upset-- livid, even. But it wasn't hers.

Totally off-topic, but what a sour-faced model:

^Lol yes that is Allie, she does look sour-faced in that shot...

Regarding the OPs situation, i can see both sides. I get that SHE was told by her SA that the item COULD be held for her and she knew no different about "rules" regarding sales merch and therefore is understandably upset. I also see that if another SA took it to sell to her customer that was maybe there and ready to pay that she would of done that to keep HER customer happy and to gain the commission, it is like every man (or woman) for themselves. The SA shouldn't of given her mis-information and perhaps the other SA shouldn't of been so quick to remove a "held" item off another SAs rack before discussing with that SA first...

Saks policy on holds are very strict and many sales people take advantage of having their customer holds longer then they should and changing dates for customers. It seems that management/security has finally caught on to stop the practice and they now go into the dept. to check the holds and if they are out of date the merchandise goes back to the floor so someone can buy them. It seems like many sales people try to save the good stuff for their clients and they are getting caught doing it. Also from many friends who work in different high end stores it seems to be common practice to take holds and sell the stuff outright to your client right there with no regards to the other person and their client. Working on commission makes people look out for themselves.
