Oh no! I'm terribly sorry to hear that CB has left. If her leaving was due to an issue going on in ATC, why was it never addressed?

Now that makes two extremely qualified authenticators that have left.

While I've been following this thread from early on, I've been sort of surprised that two wonderful authenticators have gone. Is there a communication problem of sorts?

The gist of what I'm understanding (from what I've read thus far) is that most members/authenticators would prefer there be a bit more transparency on the forum. (Amongst other issues)

This begs the question as to why Post #662 was allowed to stand as is, which I thought was a bit demeaning against one of your valued authenticators; yet Post #959 (CB's) was edited.

While I have read that CB's post was edited due to it being a "private matter", I've heard that the "private matter" had originated here on TPF.

Perhaps many of the members wanted to discuss matters out in the open versus behind closed doors, which I believe is why this thread was created.

Regardless, I'm sorry to see that two wonderful authenticators have now gone.

We have 75 pages of this open and public, so of course we are allowing it to be discussed in public! I have always offered people the option to PM me, which some have.

1 line of a post was removed because it involved another member of the forum and an issue that was discussed via PM. I keep stating this, but it is everyone's right to have private matters they are involved in privately to be kept private . Otherwise, everyone's thoughts have stood.

Remember, there are always more sides to a story than what one hears. And I keep saying this, but the issue that took place over 9 months ago on our forum, was actually dealt with here

Again, I am sad if CB has decided to leave and I hope it isn't the case. Majority of the authenticators have shared their issues in this thread and changes have happened, and majority of those are happy with the changes that have taken place.

I can't please everyone, but I have been open to hearing criticism and making changes to make this better for everyone.

If mods are going to use leeway in allowing new authenticators despite lower post count, may I respectfully suggest that this is monitored and done with a probationary period, at least informally? A newly okayed authenticator, who is right in judgments so far, is nevertheless not following the thread's posted requirements concerning necessary photos. Either the pics are necessary to authenticate or they are not--how can a member be asked to follow these rules when an authenticator states that she can comfortably sidestep those same rules, that is, authenticate anyway? More confusion.

May I make a suggestion? In cases where there's no trusted authenticator for a brand, maybe it would be a good idea to close the AT thread temporarily until the authenticator returns or until a new one comes on board.

I was just looking at the AT Chanel (a thread I've always enjoyed even though Chanel is only an aspirational brand for me :smile1:) and see that people are still posting requests thick and fast, and a group of volunteers is posting repeatedly that there is no authenticator. This has to be a frustration for everyone that could be alleviated by closing the thread with a message from a moderator explaining the situation.

Just the humble opinion of a non-authenticator. :flowers:

Unfortunately the majority of posters in the Chanel forum are new members with few posts looking for free advice, don't receive it and are never heard from again.

I am sorry----but why is that unfortunate? If they don't want to stick around and participate in the forums, let them go pay for their authentications elsewhere.

Unfortunate as I would hope that people joining the forum would become participating members, not just join for free advice.

Ya, that would be lovely, but it doesn't always happen! There is so much tPF offers and I think many new people come and end up finding sections they like. Others may come just to get authentication help or not find this to be the place for them, but many may stick around.

If they just want authentication help and don't get it, a lot of members let them know where they can go pay for a service.

I don't find that necessarily true in Chanel.
But we should be helpful to all new members no matter their reason for joining IMO :)

I think we have made an effort to welcome new members on the Chanel AT thread and try to be helpful even though we can't authenticate their items at the time. We do encourage them to look around the forum for all it offers.
I have noticed that most all of the new posters do not follow posting guidelines which tells me they haven't spent much time on the forum before making a AT request. There was one new poster who recently posted a 'thanks for not helping me' but at least most of them have been polite.

Try as we may, we'll never be able to prevent some snark or people starting threads for help; we have to try and remember how daunting it is to be new here and try hard to be tolerant of them. Anyone truly offensive should be ignored and reported immediately so we can handle it swiftly.
Some forums have little moderation and combative comments are allowed, we remind people daily that our community is friendly and respectful - even if veterans don't see the reminding, it's happening!

I want to thank Gail 13 and Storeberry for their dedication in responding to posters on the Chanel forum during the time when we had not had an authenticator available. They have made extra effort to ensure posters were answered and continue to do so.
