I don't like that idea.

I appreciate authenticating for newbies and most appreciate the help they get.

I think the issue (i.e. problem) is with non-expert authenticators. So many own one or two of (name your brand) item so think they know the brand.

Those are the authenticators who should prove themselves, perhaps stating "not expert but....." (Not sure how this would work. Just thinking out loud.)

I work full time, have 5 Labs that keep me busy, try to walk when I can, etc. we have a nightshift who may or may not come into work so I have to be sure to get a nap before going to work in the afternoon.

I swing by Coach forum. I don't have the time to learn vintage Coach like some of the other posters. I do what I sold in the past, other items I am sure of, and briefcases and the like. I could help with Dooney but I spend too much time on Facebook, lol.

Anyway, some authenticators check in now and then like me. We give an opinion, not fact. Obviously at times, the opinion is fact but...

And errors do happen. Once in a while someone will say "hey did you notice this" about an item and then the opinion changes. That is what is great about this forum.

And yes, I will "guess to myself" and try to learn when I have time.

LOL you just got answered by one of the newb authenticators I'm talking about.

Good luck with that!

(no seriously, just repost and ask for a MOD or lshcat to review it).
Thank you for the heads-up missbanff.. Oh my, i do not want to offend anybody. I am in no position to question anybody especially that i am getting free service and i don't know squat about brand authentication, but was she approved to authenticate? I want to get this bag for my Birthday...

I agree it is not about being strict. Having a format and asking people to follow it brought consistency to the Hermes authentications. In particular, it made it easier for us to go back and check a seller's history and user names on various platforms (which can aid in determining authenticity), and it prevented us from having to review the same item that might have been asked about by a previous poster. So, a time saver and a way to keep track of sellers, albeit informally.

We also prefer if members contribute to threads other than authentication because we feel that as we offer free authentication service as part of our contribution to the forum, their posts in other areas are their contribution, too.

As for why we won't authenticate without a link to a live sale: there were a lot of people asking about private sales and for the most part, these were items they were selling. I think I can speak on behalf of other authenticators in Hermes, past and present, when I say we got tired of adding value to someone's business on an unpaid basis. And more importantly - if you are setting yourself up as a reseller, you should either know very well if what you are selling is authentic, or consider paid authentication a reasonable and valuable cost of doing business. Without a live link to an established selling platform, there was also the issue of people using stolen photos, and no sense of who the seller might actually be.

As for gratitude, the best way members can show that to me is by participating actively elsewhere on the forum; I don't really need to hear thanks. It would also be nice if people who are denied authentication, or encouraged to participate, didn't then unload on authenticators in ways that are, at best, uncalled for and, at worst, rude and threatening.

I certainly agree with what you say, although a simple thank you or get well would have been nice and apropriate re manners. I take time out to view pictures on my pc when all I want is to stay in bed. Then the person is sceptical regarding my view and messages me twice. I will just remember that and fe it for later. No more free service from me.

I see new members joining and just demanding free authentication and not following the formats and I always thought, there are formats to follow ..it won't take long to read...and our wonderful Authenticators patiently repeats the rule...You guys are angels!

Hear hear! I am *so* grateful to you guys for the time & energy you put into this. You deserve the utmost respect and appreciation.

^^^ This!!!

This is what some AT discussions would consider chat but one of the things I love about the Coach subforum. While authentications are the main focus, because the authenticators don't mind, we also comment on seller histories, seller reputations, scary toolhaus, variations in details that make one bag from the exact same month/year/plant authentic vs. another identical one fake.

IMO, that type of chat is valuable, educational and though not literally "authentication" should be allowed if those doing the service, i.e., free authenticating agree to it.

Although not totally in line with the "rules," it's not self-promotion, not really chat and since the authenticators are freely willing to share their knowledge, those authenticators should be given a bit of leeway in their subforum.

If another authenticator and subforum don't feel that way, it's their right to stick to or make their rules.

(In these discussions, item numbers, seller IDs, etc. are still required so there's no duplication of requests and the search function will still do its job.)

I can only comment on the discussions in which I participate and I understand that other discussions are too busy to do what I've referred to.

No, I just feel irritated why people won't read? Is that so difficult to read? And the most common one is posting additional pictures without original link, how do you want the authenticators to dig out the info? Do they sit in front of computer 24/7 just to authenticate for you? Duh! I read AT thread in various brand, one similarity is obvious, people who don't read & demand demand for authentication.

Plus when told, some are rude to the core! Read one in ATC thread, she post authentication for fun! Ridiculous!

LOL! That new "authenticator" is having her own listings authenticated on other brand AT threads including Prada, Gucci, Dior and Celine.

(I apologize for the OT post but I had to look and see what you referred to.)

And invariably, it's going to be the authenticator on [any given AT thread] who gets the "Nastygram" from the mods/admins about "Be nice to new members." Sorry, but if people can't be polite to me, don't dare tell me to roll over be polite to them. I have no patience with double standards.

Oh please, you authenticators are helping them to create traffic to the forum. For those rude a** the least the mod / admin could do is to be on the your side.

And this is FREE service for goodness sake.

I've seen it and have had it happen. That's why some authenticators think they aren't supported but the entitled trouble maker is. Authenticators are here trying to help buyers they should be appreciated and supported by the mods and owners of this site.

I agree BB, based on my observation, specially since I'm always reading the Chanel authentication thread, I think Colourful_belle posted that same issues, and i think she quit because of the abusive members and lack of support from the mods and admin.

Now the Chanel authentication thread seems dead and not as lively as before, and it seems the members authenticating there are those who are posting authentication requests a couple of pages back, so I don't think they can be experts. I hope Colourful_belle will return to authenticate at the Chanel thread, as well as the other good authenticators that quit in other threads. It's not the same when Colourful_belle is not authenticating, she's an asset of TPF. Imagine how much money she saves those new buyers from buying a fake Chanel? I think she's one of the best and the only free authenticator I trust on Chanel.

Colourful_belle is no longer here? (While it may sound like I've been living in a cave, I haven't been around all that often due to illness this Winter)

I'm really sorry to hear this, especially that members were being abusive to her. That's terrible! She's always so very polite and seems like a very kindhearted person.

I do hope that she comes back at some point, she truly is an asset to TPF.

CB was so patient and kind to others, huge loss to TPF!
