Plenty of threads on quota bags, including in different country's variables.

Hello! Just wanted to thank everyone for their insight and for sharing their experience on this thread! The content has been so helpful. I am an Hermes newbie and slowly curating my collection! I have been buying things both at my local store with my SA and also online (especially during the pandemic). The online stock has been insane (esp the fun colored Orans and Chypres) and some things were too good to pass up since my local store is small. I know overall purchase history is taken into consideration when offered a quota bag, so I am wondering if anyone knows whether they take into account in store and online or just in store with my one SA? My SA said she could see my online purchase history and I was quite surprised. I thought this was not true?

Assuming you are US-based:
Yes they can see your online purchases. If you want that to count toward your in-store spending, you can go to the store and have your SA place an online order for you. The order can be shipped home or picked up from store.

My understanding is that stores in general encourage this practice. I guess another way to say it is that too many online purchases that are not facilitated by your SA can actually hurt your profile.

thanks Mr. Ex - I am loving this thread.
I have a question as well, is it typically frowned upon to buy multiples of a certain item. I have heard that this is bad on our profiles...what's your view on this? The reason given was that one may be perceived to be a reseller...

Ever had an Hermes related question that you were just too shy or scared to ask your sales person? If so, what was it?...
Do the SAs work on commission?? I always assumed they did but never have wanted to ask.

I’m going to go to the London boutique for the first time this summer I think.
Do they have a leather sample book or something?
How are you supposed to know what you want?

Has anyone felt Epsom leather and does it have a plasticky feel to it? That’s something I’ve heard a lot on the internet/forum and I don’t think I want that.
I have an Epsom Sellier Kelly in Noir 28 cm. Doesn't feel "plastic" to me at all, although it definitely doesn't have the soft feel of Chevre or Togo. At first, it was a little stiff to open and close, but it softened up. Personally, I love it in a Sellier, but probably wouldn't in a retourne.

Are exotic Kelly Pochettes considered quota bags, and can one SO a KP?
and is ombre lizard exclusive to VVIPs?

Also, in general, does the store prefer a lump of big purchases at once or spread across?
I only get what I love, but sometimes instead of ordering one-off items I purchase them with other things ex: instead of getting 2 twillys, I'll wait until a particular SLG is available and I'll get them all at the same time; perhaps with other items.

Thanks for the informative thread!
I've heard that the Las Vegas Hermes is very partial to making Birkins, Kelly's etc available to one time big spenders in the store. I personally know of someone who dropped $50,000 and then was offered a Birkin. I've never heard of anything similar anywhere else.

You’re welcome!
Jewelry is a lifestyle department and the prices can jump by quite a bit compared to everything else. It’s a good department to shop that’ll give you that high spend for your SA to be better able to petition for your desired bag. This also counts as a better incentive to the SA as it is at a higher commission payout.
Does that count for watches and watch bands as well?? I bought my Cape Cod in France, not at my regular store, but have purchased one band with my regular SA and have asked her for another.

One of my SAs used to be located at an Hermes store in a mall linked to the local casino, so similar stories. When big spenders roll up and buy a very significant watch or jewellery piece, they are offered a quota bag and maybe even exotics.

I've been told straight up in Vegas stores: "Buy this and you can have one of the bags in the back." "This" usually meaning jewelry.
They don't have as many locals as some stores, so maybe they're a bit more transactional.

The shipment contents are known to the store's SAs prior to their arrival (they generally receive a list when the shipment leaves Paris), I know this because I've seen definitive evidence of it multiple times. And there's no such thing as a "shipping team," in retail you refer to the team that does this work as "Back of House." This seemingly simple error in terminology gives quite a glimpse into the OP's experience in the retail world.

My SA calls the shipping team the “Shipping Team” or refers to the shipping manager when we are discussing my orders arriving or having items sent to me. I have never heard him refer to them as “back of house.”

To add on my personal experience, my SA recently expressed his surprise that they'd gotten in a shipment on a day they don't normally get them, and thought "it must be something special." He was not aware of what was in it until they actually received it at the store, and also didn't seem to be aware it was coming. I imagine they may be informed about certain shipments, especially with specifically ordered/requested items, but it seems not all.

Of course a particular SA may not be aware of all the shipments that come in, I was more speaking to the generalization around what was said that the store doesn't know what's inside until the shipping team processes the incoming order.

Not at all! But allow me to clarify a couple of things before assumptions are made. One, I have never ever claimed myself to be an expert of the brand. I am merely doing this to help people understand how the company works and how to better understand how to get what it is that they are looking for. Two, The inventory control team gets a list of what’s in the shipments once they receive it. May I ask what evidence you claim to have seen?

Yes, but you're strongly implying with this thread that you're an expert based on the fact that you're offering to explain how the company works. I am willing to be incorrect in my assessment however, and you can see that I'm quoting replies above and below yours that speak to different experiences than my own and more closely align with your claims. As far as providing evidence, I'm fairly certain you've set the precedent that evidence shall not be necessary to make any claims ;)

I can definitely be wrong here...while "shipping team" is way out-of-the-ordinary in the retail world, there's sill differences amongst companies.

Hi there! If you’re SA hasn’t added anything to your wishlist I would simply ask them to add a couple items to that and you CAN be specific if you’d like. But your SA is correct, the more open you are the easier it can be to be offered a bag.

To answer your question, if you don’t mind waiting and are willing to keep shopping because you actually like the items then keep doing what you’re doing. But do ask to make a wishlist so that she is aware that you’re interested in a bag.

Regarding the rodeo question, rodeo charms (PM in particular) aren’t usually allocated to SA’s UNLESS they’re special ones like the all black, all light pink or limited edition ones. This is to ensure fairness amongst the SA’s and their clients. Nonetheless you should always tell your SA what color you’re interested in and have her put an “order” in the system.

Please note that an “order” isn’t really ordering something. But they’ll know what that means.
Thank you! I’ve tried bringing the topic up for wish list a few times but she always kind of brushed me off and said “better be opened” and never took note of anything else. I did get my first quota last year so could it be she just doesn’t see a point yet as I probably won’t be getting a quota anytime soon? She did mention at the beginning of this year inventory is low so not sure what’s going to happen this year. But later on she just simply said she will let me know if anything comes in, but also feel she may simply be brushing it off.

I am not sure if this is related but I have recently got literally blocked on the Hermes website because I was browsing too fast :confused1: and the website said that I am a robot! :confused1: I was just browsing multiple items at the same time (multiple browser tabs open) to compare the different colors side by side

Hi,

I am one of those people who has an Epson leather bag and who feels that yes, Epson has a bit of "plastic" feel to it. Of course, it all depends on your frame of reference. For example I've got a Damasco sofa by Baxter that is done with Kashmir Nuage
light grey leather, which does not feel like leather at all  In fact, it feels softer than Kashmir...Baxter is really amazing like that. They produce leather that feels like the softest fabric ever. There are almost no chemicals on it, no processing, nothing...It's super soft. I really like it. What kind of leather preferences do you have? I only talked myself into getting Epson because I live in a rainy country and I thought I would love it.

Epson keeps its shape AMAZINGLY well. I almost feel like, if I were to try to bend it, it would break. It is stiff as a cardboard. But I don't think I've ever seen a scratch on Epson and it is resistant to rain. So, it all depends on what you look for in a handbag. Mine is a Noir 28 and seriously, I break out in cold sweat every time I have to try to open or close it. But I haven't used it much. Other people say that it softens with usage. Maybe they have higher frustration tolerance than me  Good luck!

Clemence is gorgeous, soft, thick, "moist", leather. But it is heavy. It's a serious workout bag :) Togo can be really fabulous but it can also feel a bit dry and thin. I guess it all depends on the batch. I've only made good experiences with Togo. These are just my personal opinions. I am no expert of any kind. Hope that it helps you with your decisions!
