I did it once, and I will never do it again! I lended a Mulberry bayswater to my friend that I had ordered from the UK before they were available in Sweden. When I got it back it reeked of smoke because aparently, she doesn´t smoke a whole ciggarett and puts the stump back into the package which was in my bag! The smell was unable to get rid of and I sold it at a MAJOR loss! So irritating! She wanted to shine when she was going to a big fashion fair to buy clothes for a boutique she worked at. I get upset just thinking about it and it was eons ago;) I, myself, would never want to borrow anything from a friend (except money,LOL)

eta: she was not my closest friend so I´d probably lend my bag to a close friend, however they would never ask,

I've only had my mother and my sister ask me and of course I say yes, no problems there. They are like me: careful, respectful of their own and other people's belongings.

None of my other friends have ever asked to borrow a bag - they have their own.

I've never asked to borrow a bag either. I use what I have.

My best friend is always asking to borrow my bags. She treats her bags like they mean nothing to her. They are always dirty and the inside is always ripping because she forces things in her bag. I feel really bad though not letting her borrow my bags. I'm always trying to avoid the question.

I remember a thread about this a long time ago. I gave a beautiful Coach bag to my best girlfriend a while back because she was in need of a special purse for her vacation or something, and she didn't have the right color in her wardrobe. It was one of my best bags and the time, and of course, I baby my bags. When I saw her with it, I almost fainted on the spot because she had stuffed everything in the universe that she owned into that bag so much that she couldn't shut the zipper! It was all whacked out of shape. When I got it back about two weeks later it looked like I had worn it for 50 years, so I just smiled and never told her that I would never lend her any more of my bags, but I let her keep that one for herself.

:wtf::faint:

!!!

That is why I voted NO NEVER! Lol. Ofcourse if it's just a cheapo PVC bag that I only spent $20 or less on than yea sure. But I don't think that is the point of the poll. I know my friends well enough to know that they simply would not take care of my nice things like I do. However, I will say if anyone were to let me borrow a bag they wouldn't need to worry as it would be handed back to them in pristine shape- perhaps even better shape than when they gave it to me!:D

Wow. I would've taken that bag back the moment I saw it stuffed like that, and if not, I would've say something. I mean, you'd think the person must know...but some people need to be told, KWIM?

Don't feel bad! You have every right to own your things.

I have a set answer that I repeat as necessary: "Sorry, I'm just not comfortable lending my things."

i don't get the comment that it's 'just a purse'. if i am spending upwards of $1K or more on something, well then it is something i really treasure and not 'just a purse'. it's like asking to borrow someone's faberge egg collection or hummels. when it's someone's hobby, and they are expensive bags, i think it is odd for someone to want to borrow. just my opinion.

I agree with most people not lending bags to others because they might not treasure em as much as we do but when you have PERSISTENT family and friends, now that really gets to me!

I am 21 this year and my collection is fairly large for someone my age (with LV,Chanel and vintage mostly and a couple of Hermes as well) and wow, the guts of some people to ask why I would spend that much and not SHARE it around(e.g.with them!). I'm like, you collect cigars and you don't share it with anyone either ! and they'll be like, but bags are just bags..

I don't smoke or do drugs or anything like that so I save heaps of money off that and spend it on bags and shoes and apparently my addiction to bags is much harder to understand compared to smokes...

My sister lends me her Chanel bag for few months. I was not persistent as I just asked casually. She stops using it anyway. Its quite an old bag. Actually I borrowed it for fun and have not thought of an occasion to use it yet.
