I rotate a professional Ultrasonic (a GemOro heated one) with a professional Steamer (JewelJet) and a spray called SparkleSparkle which I LOVE.

I clean my rings either daily or every other day whether they need them or not.

After cleaning I dip the corner of a napkin/paper towel in rubbing alcohol and run it over the diamonds, then dry it with a paper towel to remove any extra. It prevents spots.

Hi Ame!
Would you recommend GemOro or JewelJet? I am looking in to an ultrasonic cleaner. I mostly have diamond, and no precious gem and the only thing in pave right now is my ering.

Could you tell me a little more about Sparkle Sparkle? How does it work?

Thanks a bunch!

Sparkle Sparkle is a cleaning liquid that is housed in a little spray bottle (like hairspray). You just spray it on, count to like, 30, and brush lightly and rinse. I usually spray again after that and re rinse, then dry. Dish soap and water will do just as well.

I don't honestly think an ultrasonic is worth owning. I barely ever use mine, I don't think it does much more than a good soak in a small dish of warm-hot dish soapy water or the sparkle spray. If you're going to get one of the two--esp if you own a ring with pave--get the Jewel Jet/a steamer.

Is it ok to use the soft cloth that is part of the Cartier cleaning kit to clean other gold and diamond jewelry as well? It says that it is meant to be used for drying and polishing jewelry.

Since it can be washed, does it contain chemicals or anything or is it just a simple soft cloth? Does it remove gold (like when you really polish jewelry)?

Oooohhhh!!! I want a steamer. My jeweler will blast my er and it is so clean and sparkly after!!!

Since I am unfamiliar with this particular cloth and whether or not it's got any sort of chemical compound in it I cannot really give you an answer. I would recommend you not simply because of that, unless you can find out what kind of cloth it is. If it's JUST a microfiber cloth that is not impregnated with a solution or polishing compound or whatever, it might be fine.

Also--you need to give me an update.

Thanks for your reply!

It just says "microfilament" and "85% polyester" and "15% nylon"; nothing more. Do you think it is fine to use it? It is also washable so if there were any chemicals contained in it, they would surely be washed out if/when you wash it?

Hello Ladies,

Over the weekend, my boyfriend presented me with THE most beautiful engagement ring. The stone is has so much fire (it's kind of distracting), and I want to keep it that way! However, I work in a healthcare setting and I am constantly washing my hands, and rubbing them with that alcohol foam/Purell stuff, and I KNOW that over time, dirt, grime, oils, and residue will build up on the surface of the diamond and decrease that gorgeous sparkle. My question to you is-- is there any way to prevent this process from happening? Do you ladies soak your rings/windex them/anything like that? I've heard of people brushing their rings with a soft toothbrush but I'm afraid that will scratch the platinum!

thank you for your help! :smile1:

Congratulations on your engagement!!!

I clean mine with an old soft bristle tooth brush and dish washing soap then rinse with warm water. Do not clean your ring on the sink. If it falls in the sink it'll be a nightmare! Anyway I clean my ring once a week because it is a step cut and dulls pretty easy. I then buff it with a lint free cloth like the ones they use to clean the windows and leave it streak free. You can get one at the 99cent store. I'm sure many ladies have other cleaning recipes. You can try them all and see which one you like best. I used to buy the solution, sonic clean them and steam them but I'm too lazy so now I just brush it.

I pretty much do the exact same thing! Toothbrush, dish washing liquid, lint free cloth. At the end it's streak/smudge free and very sparkly!

I just had my diamond reset and I'm obsessed with keeping it clean. I soak it in hot water and dish soap and use a soft bristle brush. But, because my setting is a low bezel, sometimes the soap get stuck in the little hole under my center stone. So I also soak it in a little rubbing alcohol. Makes it super shiny! I also have a jewelers loop and I check to make sure I've gotten everything off of the surface. Wow, I sound a little nutty but I love the sparkle! Have you posted your new ring?
