Since the coupon went out every single one of my unsold items has been reserved. Most are eligible, as they are clothing items I priced low to get sold quickly. If none of them sell by the time the coupon expires because they are reserved in a single person's cart I am going to be really irritated.
To the ladies who have sent them very expensive bags--at what time will you give up and just ask for your items back? Since they have decided not to count reserved time against your consignment period, it could just go on indefinitely.

I’m glad to come across this thread. I’m on the opposite side. I been trying to buy a Chanel boy bag listed there and it’s constantly been in someone’s cart. I gave up on checking and I agree that they should do away with the long hold time. It’s frustrating as a buyer when you see your ideal bag listed for a good price and seems legit but can’t buy it. I even emailed them to inquire how to get notified when the bag is available and of course I got no reply. I guess the upside is I’m saving my money!

That may be @nicole0612 's boy bag? In which case you should just ask her to reclaim it from TU and have her sell it to you directly. :)

They seem to have added a "be notified" button on the reserved items.

The only problem is by the time they email you and you get it it will probably be in someone else's cart again. Best option may be to set an alarm for the amount of time it says is left in the cart, for like 2 min before, and then keep refreshing the page and try to get it in your cart before someone else can re-add it.

Yes it is mine. Thanks MyAwesomeFinds.
DonnaK, I can reclaim it for you if you like, it comes with the full set.

How much do I love you guys? It's so nice to have your support and camaraderie here.
So I emailed Claire again today to see what is going on with the constant "Reserved in cart" issue that keeps our items from being available for sale.

She responded back with what they are working on, and it is certainly better than nothing, but I don't think someone is going to buy my Birkin this way :)

From Claire at ThreadUp:
Yes, we do have an update: we're testing out a "commit to buy" feature, wherein potential buyers who can see reserved items (I could be wrong but I believe that currently, any buyer who has made a purchase in the past 6 months is able to toggle to see reserved items) can now input their payment info and essentially auto buy an item once the cart timer expires on the current reserver. This basically prevents long-term cart hoarding, while preserving our 24 hour cart (which I know is very controversial among our suppliers -- one argument in favor of this is that it helps to keep our return rate low, which is in everyone's best interest).

My response:
Thank you for the update Claire.
I am so glad that you are working on a solution.
The problem with the "commit to buy" feature for items over about $500 is that customers need predictability on when those funds will be withdrawn. I do not think someone will commit to buy if they are not guaranteed the date and time that the funds will be withdrawn from their payment source. Don't you agree?
Why not just make Luxe handbags "commit to buy" only, with no cart reservation option? They are final sale anyway so there would be no concern about keeping the return rate low.
Would you suggest this to your team?
Let me know what you think.

Oh that's interesting, so that's why certain people can't see reserved items--if they haven't bought anything before. I wonder why they make that distinction?

So I supposed that's what the "other consideration" is about the cart holds--they think it keeps their return rate lower. Interesting point, but then they should probably have much shorter hold times for handbags because they are final sale anyway.

I also think the "commit to buy" feature sounds promising, but what if several people commit to buy on an item? First come first served I guess? If the commit to buy automatically applies at the end of 24 hours customers would know the funds would be withdrawn within that timeframe.

Yes, if they just apply the “commit to buy” to the first person on the wait list, that could work well.
I think the ability to see reserved items has been changed recently because suddenly there is now a box for me to check to see the reserve items and I have not purchased anything on thredUP yet.

ThredUp is overthinking and therefore paralysis by way of analysis. Luxe buyers want instant gratification and hiding items from buying isn’t helping the cause. The buying process shouldn’t be complicated or not user friendly, too much work as it is. Set up timer and constantly hit the refresh button blah blah blah... this was Gilt circa 2005. Retailers constantly send emails to remind buyers of their abandoned carts, and ThredUp keeps throwing up impediments in their way.

3 pix for luxe items and final sale at that is another obstruction. Why act so cheap with storage space, they’re a late comer to the game, I was hoping that they’d learn from others before them instead of trying to reinvent the proverbial retail wheel.

Has anyone's stuff been moving? Three of my items sold during the coupon last week, but everything is sitting since then. Most of my items are mid-range designer stuff I priced low under $200 just to sell off; while more than half of my items overall have sold I'm wondering if the slow moving despite "favorites" and "reserves" on the rest is b/c TU shoppers are extra thrifty and won't shop without a coupon or if it's just because Feb. is still a slow shopping time in general. Claire said no guarantees but the target to get the "commit to buy" feature up is the end of this month. Debating sending more in (more expensive pieces) if that will be available, but not sure if it's a waste for more expensive items because they won't sell on that site.
