Hi! I'm really new to the forum, but I've been meaning to join for years. I just purchased my very first Louie and I'm in love! It's a vintage Cartoucherie PM - it needs a bit of TLC, but I'm excited to take on the challenge, especially because it was such a good price (yay for Japanese consignment shops!). Tomorrow I"ll be cleaning, conditioning and sealing the leather. It's still going to look vintage when I'm done, but that's what I was going for.

One question I have is how to seal the canvas if there are minor cracks? I noticed that in the folds on the sides of the bag must have gotten a little dry and there is a small crack on each side.

I will take better photos tomorrow. This one was actually of my dearly departed kitty, but it's the only one I have of my bag so far.

ETA: Forgot so mention she was born in 1989 (few years younger than me) - the bag, obviously, not my cat haha.
Look for the post by FUCHSONE repairing her Metis Hobo.

I'm trying to figure out how to deal with these tiny dark spots. I thought maybe they were mold, but there's no sign of mold anywhere else on the bag and they don't have a texture or appear to be spreading. I read they could be from metal shards. Someone said to try lemon juice. Other than magic eraser, which I want to avoid due to past experience, any ideas?View attachment 3756921
Doesn't look bad to me, I would not do anything to it.

Sorry had to post my pictures separate from text because my phone wouldn't download the pictures and then I'm watching my parents house and their keyboard is wireless so when you type fast it makes everything incorrect and misses letters or multiplies letters 5x and it's annoying so I went to my phone to type. Lol.

Anyways, I cleaned up this hampstead. I just dropped it off at a shoe repair to see about fixing the corners. He said he would have to take the whole bag apart to fix it and would let me know the price but if it's expensive I'll just figure it out myself. I really love the size and feel of this bag. I'll post updates about the corners.

The bottom picture are the products I used. I would not recommend the magic eraser personally. Although it does nice on getting out some staining, it's super harsh on the bag. This bag was in very rough condition so I didn't mind going the harsh route but if you have a more precious bag, I would not use that (it also takes away from the gloss on the handles, again mine was far gone so I didn't mind). The alcohol free baby wipes worked nicely getting the dirt off the canvas, took some elbow grease and time but got everything off nicely. The leather care cleaner didn't make much of a difference in my eyes but the conditioner definitely made the leather less dry feeling after the magic eraser.

Great job! BTW I didn't know these corners are actually wrapped with leather till I saw your pictures

Can you change the speed setting on the keyboard? I'm using a wireless keyboard (when using iMac) but it works perfectly.

Thank you!
Haha I actually feel dumb because I asked my dad about it being wacky and if it always did that and he's like "change the batteries." Changed them and it works fine now. Just didn't think of that.

it took over three months b/c it was a project i worked on in stages and not quickly. and since i only paid 575 for the bag i didn't care if i ruined it further by trying different stuff. so don't follow my method if your bag cost a lot or you're scared, because i was just willing to try stuff and i wasn't afraid to ruin my LV. i hand washed the lining initially just with basic gentle soap and water to see what i could remove. i washed the lining about 3 times over two weeks, just to clean it. a week or so later i came back and used a spray and wash stain remover before washing it again with a gentle laundry detergent. it lifted all the dirt and grime but still left the ink (although it did fade a bit). washed it again with a gentle woolite laundry detergent. it started to fade (the ink). i already knew that alcohol removes ink so a few weeks later i tried rubbing alcohol very liberally on the ink, i used a lot of the bottle, and let it set and soak in for a while before washing the lining again. i think this was the part that scared me most, but it lifted almost all the ink spots. waited a week and tried an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (clear) and saturated the lining with it and let it sit before washing again. i think the bag was washed over 11 times total, probably more. i do know you have to use a strong alcohol on the ink though or it won't budge. there is still a very small ink mark or two left behind, but not complete liquid stains. after all the cleaning i had the leather replaced by a local leather shop for a fraction of what LV quoted.
This was very helpful thank you!

Hey all! Thanks for letting me share my rescue. I rescued this bag from myself! This is my Keepall 55 I bought brand new my senior year of high school for a summer trip across the United States. Since then, he has has been my go-to bag for most of my travels. He has been thrown, kicked, squished, trampled, jammed, dragged, put in trunks of taxis, checked at the airport, gone to the beach, borrowed, lost and found, left in rain (not for too long!), and he has taken it all in stride with not a single loose stitch or tear in the canvas. However, he was starting to show is age, so I decided to see what I could do. I shined up the hardware with Brasso, used a magic eraser to some scuffs on the bottom and to the handles, and took some Kiwi saddle soap to the vachetta leather. I (stupidly) forgot to take before pics, but trust me, he had some battle wounds haha. Now the leather is a nicely uniformed patina, and although it's darker than it was, I think it looks great. The leather doesn't feel dried out at all, in fact, it seems more supple than before the rescue. The oil and water spots are gone (except for some sunscreen that was once spilled down the back, which you can see in the second photo on the left strip of leather), and the handles even cleaned up nicely! So here is my 13 year old Keepall that I hope to have for at least another 13+ years, and endless more journeys!
Very nice!!

Hello everyone!

Just got this lovely Jeune Fille MM. The Vachetta and the Monogramme canvas are great, gut the lining of the inner zip pocket and the front pocket is coming off (seems to be a common problem).

Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of this? Unfortunately taking her to LV to get the lining replaced is not a very practicable option, as this means a 4-hour-one-way-drive for me! I love the bag an really would like to keep her!

TIA for your help!20170719_184630-864x864.jpg20170719_184624-864x864.jpg

Hi everyone! Just wanted to get your thoughts on how to best restore this peeling inner pocket of a neverfull. I've seen the acetone technique but that probably won't work here since it's more of a fabric material and not just a coating? What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for any helpful ideas! Hi guys! I have an update and recommendation for you!
I purchased a LV Neverfull mm in indigo from Fashionphile for right around $600- and while it was damaged mostly on one side, I had some hope that maybe I could repair it...or wear that side toward my body at all times! Ha!
After unsuccessfully attempting to dye, paint, cover the white rubbed off area I decided to send it in for some tlc.
Mark Balian with Leatherpros did an absolutely remarkable job. It looks basically brand new now...I'm still in shock- Apparently the person before me lived in glitter because there was so much inside so I'm imagining this bag having lived on Broadway or something.

Here are some before and after shots so you can see what I'm talking about.

If you need repair contact him and you will not be disappointed!

So happy for you, and I can vouch for Mark Balian. He is a miracle worker! I have recommended Leatherpros on many other threads! Enjoy your gorgeous bag!
Thanks for letting me brag a bit!

LV rescuers, I'm excited to share my new-to-me Speedy DA 25 made in 2007. When I saw her I was a little shocked. She was covered in a layer of yellowish hue, which turned out to be dirt.
However I still bought it because the canvas and vachetta has no cracks, (thank goodness!) And the price was pretty good.
Here are the before pics. Believe me, my camera does not do justice to its yellowish/murky canvas color.
Hopefully I can show you some difference, after my rescue efforts. I'm so excited.
