Another rehab project I completed awhile back: Cleaning/removing the interior lining of a Toiletry 26.

I own a older model toiletry 26 which originally had the brown rubberized interior (not the same as the current model which includes a wipeable beige lining).

The interior was in good condition, but since I use this as a clutch, the rubberized interior began to crack and flake off into small, sticky brown pieces the more I used it.

There was no fixing this issue when evaluated by LV. This is a relatively inexpensive piece and pretty readily available, so I wasn't afraid to try a DIY. Also, this method removes the date code, which isn't important to me anyway.

The interior before any work was done. Cracking and peeling reveals a beige cotton underneath.

Materials used:
-a toothbrush (for tight spaces)
-Lysol wipes

I took the Lysol wipe, crumpled it up, then proceeded to rub the interior lining off using a circular motion. Within seconds, the friction and moisture from the wipe removed the peeling lining.

In progress--look at that clean cotton underneath!

The aftermath: lots of wipes.

Perfectly clean interior with very little trace of the original lining.

This very aggressive rehab method did not affect the canvas in any way. It did not affect the shape of the toiletry 26. It also removed any "storage odor"

Exterior was cleaned the same way I usually do it: soap/water/toothbrush to scrub the canvas, magic eraser/Cadillac to clean and condition the vachetta tab, brasso for the zipper.

Sorry for the longer post!

This is fantastic! Great work!

Hi guys! I have an update and recommendation for you!
I purchased a LV Neverfull mm in indigo from Fashionphile for right around $600- and while it was damaged mostly on one side, I had some hope that maybe I could repair it...or wear that side toward my body at all times! Ha!
After unsuccessfully attempting to dye, paint, cover the white rubbed off area I decided to send it in for some tlc.
Mark Balian with Leatherpros did an absolutely remarkable job. It looks basically brand new now...I'm still in shock- Apparently the person before me lived in glitter because there was so much inside so I'm imagining this bag having lived on Broadway or something.

Here are some before and after shots so you can see what I'm talking about.

If you need repair contact him and you will not be disappointed!

Thanks for sharing. Can I ask how much you paid for the restoration?

I actually used a damp wash cloth, just scrubbing from multiple directions (up and down, side to side, etc). It took two or three passes for some of the bigger spots but they all came out eventually. Just to give an idea of what they were like before:

Thanks! I just purchased a few vintage bags with the hope of restoring them. I will definitely try this!

Hi,
I've read this thread in such detail and I have to say, some of you are magicians. Truly gifted.
I was hoping you can look at my vintage Speedy and let me know the best way to treat the vachetta. The chap loops seem dry and chipping. Thank you

Nothing u can do about the cracking- that would have to be changed. But to prevent future cracking and moisturize the leather use Cadillac conditioner or LMB conditioner (I have used both). As always use at ur own risk. Good luck.

Op's leather looks pretty dry and I think baby wipes may dry it out more and may make cracks worse while cleaning, imo.
Cadillac is good as it's specifically for leather and it cleans, protects, polishes and conditions all at once so it will do a cleanse without drying out the leather more.
If Op can't get Cadillac, and plans to use wipes, OP should moisturize first, let it sit, moisturize again let it sit, then use wipes lightly as u said, and then moisturize again.

Thank you so much. What would be another product besides Cadillac to moisturize.

I've use LMB moisturizer. (The cleaner is separate). Maybe others can give more thoughts. I've not heard a bad thing about Cadillac but have heard mixed reviews on LMB, although I use that solely on my new bags and it was perfect. If u use LMB, don't double dip- scoop it out so u don't contaminate it. Seal container in a ziplock for storage.
