Lovelies, i need advice on these. These are the issues i have with my 3yo speedy 35 de. Do u think i should go to the shop and ask what can be done? If it will cost a lot to get the leather back into how it was, then perhaps i wont do it. But this thread by the zipper bothers me a bit

I would just clip the thread...that is what they told me at LV.

I decided to take on my own LV rescue/refresh/rehab. I purchased this Amarante Vernis Cles for $160 on eBay! I had one of the ladies here authenticate it for me. It actually looked better in person than in the photos online.

The chain was chipping pretty badly and the patent leather was wearing off the zipper pull. Also, the leather inside is scratched and really dull looking. It also had a strong perfume smell.

I used some pliers to pull the chain off (I’ll be using this as a small wallet, so don’t need it). I attached a small LVesque clip (purchased from Kcraft for less than $2) to the zipper pull ring and cut off the old zipper pull. I also gave it a good sanitizing with some alcohol free baby wipes and a cloth. To condition the leather inside the cles I smothered it in vaseline and then buffed that with a cloth. All of these steps took less than 20 minutes. To get rid of the smell I stuffed it with dryer sheets and wrapped it in them as well. I let that sit for two nights. The smell is much much better.

I’m pretty excited that I’ve gotten a vernis cles for a steal and given it a whole new life. I’ve attached my youtube video of the refresh if you’re interested. Thanks for letting me share!

The LV Rescue club is for those who have chosen to give life to a bag who may have seen better days. Weather it involves a few repairs, cleaning or replacement, the LV Rescue club wishes to recognize these revitalized LVs and their owners. No bag is too old, too worn or too abused. All LVs are beautiful, sometimes it just takes some extra LoVe to bring them back to life.

Please share your story and pics of your rescue:

So I dropped off my 1994 Speedy 30 at one of Dallas TX Louis Vuitton locations on yesterday. I decided to get the handles and leather tabs replaced verses the piping or all the leather. I'm still kinda thinking about having the piping done too. See the before picture which is from the ebay seller I purchased the bag from. It looks a lot better in this photo than in person. I was told it could take 4 to 6 weeks but I'm okay with that. Let me know what you all think about having some of the leather replaced verses all of it.

Thanks,

LVSoutherngirl
If you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge you for this? I know this post is a couple of years old, but I just found a speedy today that someone was selling for $20 because the lady thought it was fake. I'm pretty certain it's not, but it needs all the leather replaced.

My Speedy 25 is at the shop right now getting all the leather replaced except the pocket inside. They are charging $595.00. I realize I could get an almost pre-loved Speedy for that but it's my first bag and therefore sentimental. They said it will take 5-6 weeks.

Thank you! That's very helpful. I'm just a little worried they won't repair it because I've read a couple of things here saying that if he canvas isn't it great condition they won't do it. There is just a tiny spot on one of the corners that worries me. The rest of the canvas looks good. But the vachetta is all in pretty bad shape.

LV won't repair anything that has cracks or tears or rips in the canvas. Even just that tiny rubbed/worn corner is enough to make them say no.

However, if you didn't want to have a cobbler try and repair the ripped area. you could always resell the canvas or reuse the canvas in a different way. Make your own charms??
