This is on my neverfull GM.. the leather trim at the stress point of where the bag folds when cinched has split, and under the split if you pull it open for a closer look there is a hairline crack on the canvas underneath.

Will LV not repair at all? :'(
Bag is from 2009.

I think they will replace the leather trim for you (for a fee most likely). I would take the bag to a store asap.

Hopefully they will repair but again they are really strict on repairing cracked canvas. Never hurt to go into LV store to have it repair. They will definitely charge you a fee, around $70-80+.

Since it is a true dye instead of a leather paint, it should be permanent.

Thanks!

I'm seriously considering it if I can get a good deal. I find a lot of the read PM bags are pretty well priced(under $100) so I may try on that. I'm hoping I can find a pouchette for a pretty good price. I've seen them with a longer strap crossbody and really like the way it looks.

Finally finished dying my Louis Vuitton Vernis Thompson! I'm going to add 1 more overcoat when I get home.
The inside is not the way I would have liked, but I am still happy. For some reason the red dye would not take to the inside very well (not sure why, maybe because it's older..?) so I went over it in black and that didn't go over 100% either. So I suggest if you dye one of these, just do the outside. I tried to keep the straps not black, but it was almost impossible not getting dye on them so I made them black and I think I like it better with the black. I also bought an off brand vachetta strap extender to make it into a crossbody bag.

I forgot to take my own before pictures, so here is a picture of a similar bag (mint green outside thompson with baby blue inside) that I started with:

The chipped spot on my bag held the black dye, but you can see the difference.
And in other spots where it's chipped, it did not hold the dye.

I was contemplating dying a similar style but with the green inside. I'll post if I end up doing that.

Hey guys, is there any way to even the patina on the two handle "chaps" (i think that's what they're called).
There are several vachetta-specific leather cleaners - Cadillac, Apple, and Barbara's Lovin' My Bags come to mind - that will help lift the soiling on the chaps and handles and in doing so will even out the patina quite nicely (have reasonable expectations for the darkest parts of the handles though). Follow the instructions on cleaning and then follow up with a conditioning, again the same brands offer their versions. For the hardware you can use a little brass cleaner such as Brasso.
If you're looking for a quick 'fix' then consider using alcohol- and scent-free baby wipes, but do NOT use a magic eraser (i.e. from Mr. Clean) as it will dry out the leather and could cause cracking due to the harsher chemicals.

I purchased two vintage vernis pieces and am going to attempt an at home dye process on both! I'm thinking navy on the wallet and diluting the same navy dye with alcohol to get a lighter blue for the key cles-or maybe the deep purple- ahh decisions!
