After seeing the awesome results of the cleaning process of the mono gm bucket bag, I couldn't help but find one of my own. I purchased her at a great price and the rehab began this afternoon. I will post before and after pics soon.

After scrubbing a sticky mess, drying, brass cleaning, leather cleaning and conditioning. "phew" I have a great, plenty of life left, discontinued LV prize! I had both items authenticated here on tpf(thank you ladies, your greatly appreciated)
The 1998 pouchette I purchased separate a few weeks ago not realizing it was a tote pouchette and not a full double d ring pouchette, but for $45 I kept her and cleaned her up (just needs a new zipper pull) I guess it was meant to be because I found this 1997 GM bucket sans pouchette a few days ago also at a steal($95) with a little love and scrubbing she's ready to go to Mom's house for Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving all!

I've been poking around eBay for a while and found a bucket at a good price.. do you ladies think this bucket can be saved? Looks like a very long process to clean it up but i don't think i'll mind.

I agree, scrubbing the liner is a job but worth it once dry and your able to use it. Work on the lining first because it is the most time consuming. Then breakdown the rest, I.e. cleaning all the brass pieces, the canvas, and the vachetta parts. Let it sit in between each cleaning to dry(it was hard for me cause I tend to be impatient ) good luck in your endeavor!

I have a preloved petit bucket and did not know you could clean the sticky lining. I sewed a new leather lining on top of the original one. So i was able to can keep the old one but still use the bag. Could you please explain, how you cleaned the lining? I would love to know an maybe try it myself in the summer. Thank you in advance.

Go to post #318 in this thread. Jeansinmycloset provides a great How to.

I think you did a fantastic job on this rescue and showing your students the process and ways to improve it next time. The new lining is adorable! I hope you'll get a lot of use out of this bag now.

I have the same petite bucket bag. Purchased it preloved and within a couple of months of use, the top of the lining started peeling, probably from the weight of things in the open pocket. Idk how much LV would charge to repair it, and I certainly can't do a project like you did. I want to sell it, but don't want to take a huge hit. Oh well.... But thank you for sharing with us!
I have a petit bucket. I would be very much interested in the pattern for this project. I can sew well and there is not a Louis Vuitton anywhere near us. The outside of mine is in perfect condition, it is the inside that is bad.

I purchased my Favorite MM Louis Vuitton a week ago today. There is a brass plate on the front of the purse and it already has small scratches all over it. Does this happen to all brass pieces on LV? I have been doing a lot of research on how to buff out the scratches, but it looks like you cannot do much with chemicals because the brass is lacquered. Can someone please help me. I am looking for sound advice that you have done yourself.

OK, there is not much of a dramatic transformation here, but I did buy a used mono Papillon 26 and spiffed it up Sunday. I took some pictures so, even though the bag didn't need a whole lot of work, I'll share them anyway!

The first pic shows one handle that has been cleaned with Apple leather cleaner, the other has not. Then the zipper using Brasso before and after, one of the side where you can see the piping before and after, and finally a B&A of the bag. Again I know you can't tell much here, but I spent the time taking these photos so I'm going to show them anyway, LOL)
