Here's my story: After searching for a Graffiti Speedy for two years, I was unable to find one in my price range in the condition I desired. So I looked into vachetta replacement and decided that was the way to revitalize a well loved bag. After finding him on eBay, I dropped him off at my boutique. Three weeks later, he was back and stunning. Here are the before and after pics.

Hopefully this Graffiti Speedy's story can inspire others to breath some life back into a forgotten LV.

This came out great. What was the cost to replace the vachetta?

Cleaning the Pouchette you will loose the date code but you can use the bag! I think that's a great trade!

Wow you did a great job! I have to wonder what the heck all that sticky stuff was in the bag? Did the seller tell you what it was? Did it have a smell? It just looked so gross.

The seller told of the sticky vuittonite lining. It had a slight smell, it was gross, but that can be fixed!
I had read, either on the net or here that in humid climates the vuittionite lining that has a reaction to the heat/humidity, making the bag peel and become sticky. I personally think its the glue like chemicals they use to make the lining...

I didn't have a clue on how to clean the GM bag, and now I've done 3 more bags with the same sticky! All came out the same!

When you use Simple Green to clean the bag the lining will come clean and it looks like the dust/sleeper bag, and it smells like Simple green!

I'm getting ready to load pics of my pre-loved PM bucket tote! All clean, no bad smell, No Sticky!!

My new to me PM Bucket tote!

Good job! Your bags look great. Do you end up dunking the whole bag?

Thank you!

I have dunked the entire bag, in the last 2 rehabs... I figure if they can make luggage that lasts a lifetime, I shouldn't be afraid to get it wet!
I have a Speedy 30 that's 31 years old and it looks great! I'm not afraid to take them out in the rain either! I do clean them about once a month or when ever I get a new one! :-)

Nice! I've never been afraid of leather rehabs but canvas is another story. Good to know.
Thanks!

Well, when I bought the GM bucket I never imagined I could do this to the bag! I had read a bit about "Sticky Linings & pockets" I thought maybe it wouldn't be so bad... I was wrong! I looked at that bag after opening the package and thought... OMG, how do I clean that! I looked around to see what cleaning agents I had, thought acetone might work but really didn't want to put that strong of a chemical to my bag! Acetone takes off paint!
I went to the garage and found a big jug of Simple Green and thought, it's not a harsh chemical, it's bio-degradable, so I tried that... Lo and behold... It worked! Plus it doesn't have a strong bad smell... Just a Simple Green smell that subsides in a couple weeks! Use Simple Green with nice warm water. Hot water really don't matter.

I've since used Dawn liquid, and Clorox 2 because at the top of the bag after cleaning it, it has a dark almost brown (dirty) looking color.
Dawn liquid soap works ok with warm water too! I figured if they use it on ducks and wildlife to get oil off them it won't hurt my bag!

Clorox 2 didn't do much to the brown (dirty) looking color of the inside lining of the bag...

I used Mink Oil on the leather and canvas but I'm not a fan... It makes the bag feel sticky to me. I like the Kiwi Leather Lotion best it seems to soften the leather best, It's inexpensive, and easy to find!

I am trying different cleaning methods on this PM just to see what it can take. The leather is a bit darker than before I cleaned it and I'm hoping it will dry a bit lighter...

I think I must have set it out in the sun while I was drying the lining... It has some darker spots on the vachetta that I have scrubbed with all my might... I'm hoping the straps soften a bit when I use it, had a few more cracks on the straps and top of the bag that I tried to repair myself. No sticky, and very useable!

I'm not as happy with this bag as I was my GM Bucket rehab... But it's a great bag to take when running errands, shopping, dinner, what ever ya want! I like it because I can put my iPad Mini in it and it's handy!
