I wanted to share my before and after pictures of my recent find. A vintage speedy 25 from 1985. I found that I prefer using Bar Keepers friend to clean the hardware as opposed to brasso. They both work well but brasso, in my opinion, left too much residue behind and the hardware wasn’t as shiny as I would have liked. Anyway, I don’t think this 37 year old bag has ever been cleaned until now. Pretty happy with it. Has anyone restored dry, dull (zero shine) vachetta before? Is this something that can easily be done? I’ve just got this pre-loved bag and wasn’t sure if I should keep or return. Would the dry vachetta likely be an issue in the long run, e.g. cracking? View attachment 5270799View attachment 5270800View attachment 5270801View attachment 5270802

Hi. 9 years ago I used the lovin my bags clean, condition and protect kit. It did not darken the leather permanently, just during application. I have a video here. As my bag was bnew then, it did not need the clean step. I suggest contacting the company for further advice as it has been a while since I last used the product. Their vachetta kit was made for this type of leather with the ph matched. Noticed some dryness issue on my 9-yr-old bag too so I'm in the same boat.

Hello .. I just recently rescued LV Compeigne 23 from 1994.. I fell in love with it and now she is otw to her new home… But she is in very bad shape .. I would like to paint the vachetta black since I know it will takes alot of time to clean the vachetta .. But there are many cracks on the front part .
Question : can I paint it like this or should I glued it first ?
And would Angelus paint will do the work or should I go with dye paint instead ? Should I do the basic clean , condition and magic eraser before paint it or just dive in with paint? I’ve spent hours YT’ing already but still bit confuse
Thanks :smile::smile::heart::heart:84E376D2-3521-422F-93EF-686D23F66ABA.jpeg

I would not use Magic Eraser in it…you could dry it further and worsen the cracking. Since you are going to paint it, I would go ahead and glue the cracks. As far as which paint? Not sure.

Dear vintage LV lovers, I kindly ask for your help and advice how to salvage my vintage vachetta. I purchased a vintage cosmetic pouch off Ebay, it was in amazing condition (except a horror interior - as expected). I believe the pouch was never used, the vachetta was in pristine, light honey color - and I ruined it while cleaning the interior
So I took pretty conservative approach (so I thought ), I only used water based baby wipes. Firstly, I wiped the exterior and leather very gently, let it dry, then applied Apple leather conditioner to the vachetta pulls to give it some protection (I treat my other LV bags with Apple without any issues). Then I started removing the lining by rubbing the baby wipes, as I was too afraid to use anything harsher. Long story short, after many long hours of cleaning the lining had been removed, but the leather tabs got wet. I used another clean wipe to wiped it and just even it out, but when I checked on my pouch today I almost got a heart attack. The leather pulls look like someone was burning them, edges almost black Is there any way to restore the leather? I dabbed little bit of Apple cleaner to soften it up a bit, but I’m afraid to touch it. It’s just so heartbreaking to see this beautiful pouch like that, will that be the first LV thing that I ruined completely? Any advice or words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

Hi, I did something similar with a tp15 a few years ago. Its beyond repair at this point. I bit the bullet and took it to lv to get the tab replaced, it was expensive (£70 at the time) but I knew I wouldn’t be happy with it being so damaged.

Just got a 2013 LV EPI Neverfull Black. I plan to wipe it down using acetone, dye it using fiebing's pro black, repeat those two steps until I'm satisfied with the color then coat it with fiebings leather sheen to bring the luster back. Lastly, I'll moisturize it with the Coach leather moisturizer (unless anyone has a better moisturizer recommendation). Not sure if the last step will be necessary but we shall see. I'll post before and after pictures. Wish me luck :)
