Thank you both for your response! I’ve calmed down a little since Friday and excepted the cracks. It was just disappointing to see the new ones. This is my second pre-loved and I just love the older styles. I can’t wait to use her. The surprising thing was the pockets are still useable. There is slight bubbling but no peeling ...yet. You are right @BowieFan1971 I have several cracks . FYI here she is.View attachment 5030547

What a beautiful bag!! This is inspiring.

Hi all, I just received a 1992 Noe from Fashionphile yesterday. I’m pretty sure there is mold on the vachetta especially the strap (these are the most concerning to me). They didn’t show any close up pics of the strap. There are a few dark spots on the bottom trim and on the bottom itself but I thought it was just liquid stains since the bag is so old. The bag has no odors and overall looks great other than the dark spots. If this is mold can I clean/get rid of it or should I just return it and hope I can find another one reasonably priced. I’ve been searching forever for a Noe. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

I think you may be right about it being mold. It doesn’t look like water marks or even oil spots. All of the ways I know of to kill mold would be drying and potentially damaging. Bleach, for example, kills mold. Steam might do it as well, but could leave dark marks. And leather is porous, so to truly kill the mold, fixes would need to soak in. The downside is if you damage the bag, you can’t return it.

With that said, I would return it. I see Noes on eBay from Japanese sellers all the time at better prices than ridiculously expensive Fashionphile. They are out there.

Thank you BowieFan1971 and M_Butterfly, I appreciate you helping me! I've been searching eBay for awhile and everything I see that's reasonable looks really dry, cracked around the top trim, bad stains or looks like it may have mold also. All of the ones that I like cost the same or more than what I paid. I'm kinda scared of dry vachetta..I'm afraid it will crack when I condition it. I've thought about a sunbath. May try that. What are the chances if I choose to keep it and clean it really well and condition that it will spread or cause rot?

I don’t think it will cause rot…as far as spread, you need to store it properly. In a dust bag only (no box) or uncovered, on an open uncrammed shelf in a room that is not humid. Sir needs to be able to freely circulate around it. You could put a Damp Rid near it and/or put those little silicone packs in there to control moisture tire. Mold likes warm, dark and damp places.

I have 3 weeks to return. I'm going to keep looking everyday to see if I see something else before then. I'm absolutely bummed about the mold because the Noe looks great otherwise. No cracks that I can see other than a lot of wear on drawstring and a pretty even shiny golden patina. It looks wonderful for 29 yrs old. Most of the dark spots are on the underside of the handle so looks wise they don't necessarily bother me..I just don't want it to spread or cause damage. I guess I have some deciding to do. I do keep all of my LVs in a dust bag with the closet door cracked open and a ceiling fan going most of the time. One more dumb question if you don't mind. Do you think I could use a Q-tip and spot treat with very diluted white vinegar then rinse very well or is that a really bad idea?

I forget to say thank you again for your advice!

Not diluted…it won’t be strong enough. You could try using it full strength on a spot where it won’t show much, spot apply with q-tip and leave it sit for a minute and then use a baby wipe over it along with whole area so you don’t get water marks. Don’t forget to condition too.

So I decided to return the Noe with mold and I found one on eBay that looked really good and was cheaper. I messaged the seller and specifically asked about cracks on the upper trim to be sure (none were mentioned and I didn’t see any in the pics) and they told me no cracks at all. Well I received my bag yesterday and just my luck I found a crack but not on the back of the trim yet.:annoyed: My question is should I condition and hope no more cracks show up? The vachetta doesn’t look dry and has a nice sheen. It’s from 1997 and from Japan and I really don’t want to go through the hassle of paying to return it. Thanks for any advice!

If it was/is dry, the crack could have happened at any time. Yes, condition but not heavy. You could put a teeny tiny bit of leather glue on a toothpick, pin or sewing needle to hold the crack together, then use a bag clip with some cloth or tissue to prevent any indentations to hold it in place while drying. If that is the only issue on a 20+ year old bag, you got a good one!

You are a wealth of knowledge @BowieFan1971! I was wondering if glue would work. The crack is right on the fold but that seems to be the only area. Thank you for helping me this pre-loved journey. The bag looks great overall..just a minor stain on bottom trim and the vachetta is pretty light considering it’s age. Once I get it conditioned and glued I’ll post a pic in the Noe clubhouse.

edit- do I glue before conditioning or after?
