I received an old model of the toiletry 15 (with Eclair zipper) in amazing condition today

I want to get the zipper and zipper pull super shiny again but I always struggle with this tiny area. I try to use q-tips but they shred easily and I always end up with Brasso deep in the fabric that is on each side of the zipper

How do you clean your tarnished hardware without getting any cleaner in the cloth that lines the zipper?
I used a piece of cloth (not microfiber, but something smooth like t-shirt material or flannel) over a qtip head to shine the zipper. It works a bit better as it doesn't shred as easily as the cotton. But I still usually end up with some cleaner on the fabric. I'm not sure if that's avoidable :(

Hi guys, thanks to this thread, I decided to take on a vintage LV bucket bag restoration. My local handbag store quoted me $560 aud to replace the lining. Super glad I decided to go DIY.
I used simple green and a nylon brush to scrub off the sticky lining (what a mess that made!) and then soaked the inner lining in a bucket of water to rinse it out.
I used Brasso to polish the zips and chain and acetone to remove any residual sticky lining from under the zips.
Lots of elbow grease was involved but after 3 nights, I am super happy with the results
PS. Any tips to make it even better are welcome!

Hey Everyone! Hope you all are doing well!

Just wanted to share my latest adventure. I've had her for a while now, but knowing it would take a lot of time to complete I had put it off several times.

2003 Multicolor Portefeuille International Wallet - darkened vachetta, canvas fade and discoloration, interior stains. Functionally sound.

Working on canvas fade and discoloration. Angelus Leather Paint

Vachetta dye and interior coming soon!

Hi all! I am planning on doing some major cleaning a noe I got for a song on ebay, and want to get my info and game plan in place so I can start as soon as it gets here in the mail. Some questions for all you knowledgeable people:
1. Has anyone used saddle soap to get out water stains? How does this work? are there any better products?
2. Is there a way to "iron out" the creases that formed from the strap buckle? (moisten and put under a stack of books maybe?)
3. How should I patch a small crack in the vachetta (around the drawstring top) so that it doesn't get worse?
4. Effectiveness of something like brasso on hardware
the bag is in pretty good condition from the pictures, just water spots on the bottom and a some dry leather that I plan to condition. Thanks all!

Hello ladies and gents,
Since I really enjoy my vintage speedy I've decided to look for a vintage purse to go with it. Notice in the picture how the edges of the canvas curl outwards? Is there a way to fix or minimise this?
Many thanks!

Need suggestions for brasso on zippers.

I collect vintage Louis Vuitton pieces and most of the time need to brighten and clean the zipper along with the hardware. I use brasso and wipe right off (I work in a small area first and wipe off before going onto another small area) but it always leaves a residue that I am unable to get off. Does anyone have any suggestions? I see a lot of others using brasso for their zippers but I don't see any residue. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks everyone!

Recently I brought my 10 years old workhorse Neverfull MM for a touch up. After ten years of heavy use the straps nearly decomposed and one was near rupture.
It was 100€ per strap and 50€ for one of the side straps which ruptured some time ago because I got stuck at some stair handles...
I kept the old trim because it was not so bad because that would have been an additional 100€.

I am pretty impressed, took around 3 weeks and it is back as good as new...

Good morning!! It's been a while since I've posted but wanted to share some recent undertakings and an update to the Alma I rescued back in January 2016. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/the-lv-rescue-club.195246/page-63#post-29745045

The Alma has become my favorite daily bag. I carry her everywhere! I covered the handles with twillies and cleaned the vachetta trim twice a month. She was still looking pretty good after 2 years of daily use, however I felt like I needed a change.

I decided to paint the vachetta trim black. i used Angelus leather paint as I have used it on other projects and had a bottle on hand. First I cleaned and polished all the hardware. Then taped off the vachetta trim. Next I prepped the vachetta with a thorough wipe of acetone. The paint applies evenly and smooth, a little goes a long way. I started with the chaps, then handles, then bottom band and finally the base. Here is a shot mid way through the bottom band.

i used 2 coats and allowed 30 minutes of dry time between each. I placed the bag "bottoms up" over a vase and allowed to dry overnight. In the AM I sealed the leather with Angelus 600 sealer, which gives a nice sheen without too much gloss. Here is the end result:smile:

Your bag looks great! Did you have any issues with it chipping after carrying it for awhile?
