I'm planning to get my first ever chanel bag, and it will be a boy bag. But is it necessary to get in black colour? or it is advisable to get in black colour?

Many will tell you to get black since it’s your first bag, but I think you should get what makes your heart sing. I’ve forever chased bags bc I got what the lux bag community deemed must-haves instead of getting what I like. I purchase what love even if it isn’t the sexiest bag plastered all over social media. If you’re buying to sell in the future, get black.

I think many people get black because they resell, either they are resellers or they plan on wearing it for a short bit and then reselling. I’m sure even TPF is filled with members who are resellers. Black always resells for more.

Second reason may be it’s less likely to get scuff marks and color transfer. My black bags are more carefree than my beige ones.

If you don’t fall into one of the two buckets(reseller or prefer a carefree bag for every day use) get whichever color you love.

Personally, I don’t resell , but I do love the look of the black boy bags. I already have 3 Chanel black bags though, so I’m waiting on the perfect color to add a boy to my collection.

I think you should get a color that you like the most and that will match your style. My first Chanel was a black caviar boy with RHW not because of the resell value (because I don’t care about this at all) but because I love black and most of my clothes are black white or gray! And also because with black you don’t have to worry about color transfer etc.

Hi everyone!
I just bought my very first Chanel Bag - a black grained calfskin medium boy with ruthenium finish. It's exactly what I want. I obviously inspected in the store and when I came home I immediately tried it on again.

As this is my first bag I am a bit OCD about everything. I noticed that the metal strap is very close to the purse top when worn over the holder/as a cross bag - is that normal? On some pictures on the internet there seems to be quite a gap, which obviously would be better as the metal wouldn't rub agains the leather when wearing it. See picture.

Secondly, I've looked at it closely from the sides and there is different sized gap when closed between the bag and flap on each side (one side has a much smaller gap). You can see the difference slightly from the top as well. I have attached pictures.

Basically I just want someone (or a few people ) to tell me that I either need to chill/I am crazy , and this is normal, or that this isn't normal and I should get a different one. ANY advice, comments, help would be greatly appreciated for this first time buyer!

THANK YOU!

Congrats on your bag. It’s beautiful. I see nothing wrong with your bag. Were you able to compare it to other Boy bags in the store? Sometimes I do that if I’m concerned or just have buyer’s paranoia. Anywho, I hope you enjoy it!!!

Thank you so much for responding! I didn't really compare it to other boy bags in the store, but I might go in next week and have a look at other bags to calm my paranoia! I'm sure I will enjoy it! :)

Congrats!! I just got this exact bag and mine looks just like yours. The slight difference in gap you are seeing may be caused by you chain being slightly twisted. I definitely agree that you should make sure you are happy with the bag, but I think it looks great!

Hi there!

Fabulous choice by the way! Although to my eye I can’t see it, my pennies worth of advice is to go back to Chanel and ask to see the same bag(bring yours discretely with all its wrapping and receipt) inspect the new one and consider if it’s in better condition than yours.

If not just enjoy your beauty knowing you did an extra quality checked with peace of mind. If it is better than yours and you know you will be happier with the one in front of you in boutique, then let the assistant know you want to exchange it and explain your observations... but that’s just me I am super OCD about all lux bags I buy- to the alignment of monogram prints and even down to stitching and/or glazing details.

I want to enjoy my purchases without any doubt that I selected the exact right piece for me. Very laborious I know but at those prices it is justified....

Enjoy in good health LittleJenJen
