I know that there's been a lot of discussion about the darkened handles and their cause, especially the 2005 bags which seemed prone to darkening. After receiving what I assume is a brand new/never used Bordeaux from TRR, I think its pretty safe to say its definitely some kind of reaction from either the dye or the glue (or a combination of the two).

While this bag is about as close to mint condition as you can get, the handles are dark, but if you look closely, there's an unevenness to it, almost looks like color or glue ran, and the darkening extends all the way to the base of the handles. If it were caused by oils in the hands (as we all first thought), it wouldn't extend to the bases because who carries their bag by the base of the handles? I also don't think its natural patina because it would be even -- like a LV or Coach bag - and not just certain spots of the handles.

What do you think? Do you think it settles it once and for all that there's probably not much we can do about it?

Sometimes different pieces of leather take dye differently. They might use a slightly different type for the handles, possibly something a little stiffer or thicker, than for the body of the bag.

All I know is that it still looks like Rouge Theatre, and it’s gorgeous. Do you have another RT or bordeaux to photograph side by side?

Agree, I think this is RT.
Bordeaux is much deeper like a wine or burgundy color - assuming that’s why it’s called Bordeaux.
This is brighter.

I’ve had only a few RT’s in my collection, but this leather in both color and veining look like RT to me.

ALSO the covering of the metal HW can also rub off and cause discoloration. Not sure what they’re treated with, but I noticed it on my Rouge Vif Work handles from being kept folded, and touching the hardware.

Whatever the color, it’s amazing to see an almost 20 year old bag so well preserved.

Yes, RT is a berry red and birdeaux a deep wine red. Both are prone to handles darkening, but on borbeaux they turn almost black, yet still blend somewhat with the rest of the bag’s dark shade.

I think it is the glue. If it had been from hand oils it would have just been 4-5 in at the very top of the handle.

Agree with both of you about the color. That's RT and not Bordeaux.
I have both colors and can attest that Bordeaux is MUCH darker.
Either way this bag is insane!

Edit: just saw the other thread, lol! Could have sworn it’s RT. Even the zipper tape looked too light to be Bordeaux. Oh well, still gorgeous.

TRR Package Not Tracking Glitch

After placing a TRR order and the site updates with the UPS tracking information, but after you wait a few days the item never starts to track and instead continually states, “ready for UPS pickup”. Today I found out the reason why this is occurring and wanted to share in hopes it helps someone else.

There is a glitch in the TRR tracking system and it forces everything to show as a UPS tracking # when in fact the items were shipped by DHL.

Work around is to use the same tracking number and input it into the DHL tracking site.

This feedback has been shared with the TRR leadership team and hopefully they resolve it, but until that happens I wanted to let you all know how to track these items.

Happy tracking!

Does anyone have a wool and leather day? @muchstuff maybe?

I’ve found one on the secondary market and I’m a bit obsessed. So, I’m looking for an objective opinion on their longevity etc. (Rain? Is rain a concern? Snow?)

Thanks!

They won't fix it. I brought this to their attention more than 6 months ago!
They were still insisting that they shipped all packaged via UP Ground despite packages shipped via UPS Select (& delivered by USPS) for months before this message

Don't have one, but if it's wool as the whole body of the bag w/ leather trim, I imagine an issue could be pilling?

If it's a Day bag then it'd be on your shoulder and rub against your clothes or jacket and potentially create pills or pill your clothes - jmo! :flowers:
