@haisley -- can you compare the leather of your '12 Dark Violet and Eggplant?
I know the 04 leather is some of the best Balenciaga's ever produced & 2012 leather is agneau (lamb) not chevre (goat), but seeing your pics has made me curious
Can you describe it and tell us how you think it compares to Eggplant?
Is it as soft? silky? buttery? or is the leather dryer? rougher?
Just curious
SUPER helpful! Your post with pictures is excellent.Posted a few pics to compare F/W 2004 Eggplant 🍆 vs. S/S 2012 Dark Violet 💜 here.
While they look similar from afar, you can see a difference in the color saturation and leather quality in the pics. The Eggplant (being typical 2004 Chèvre) is much more even, smooth and oh so buttery soft.
Eggplant is a darker shade of purple. All the Eggplants I have seen are consistently vibrant with little to no fading issues. The leather is one of the very best and this is without a shadow of a doubt my favorite purple.
Dark Violet (DV) has more prominent pink undertones. This color is prone to have fading issues. The leather is more veiny and leans towards the dry side. I owned a DV Town previously and let it go of it b/c the leather was so terribly dry. Multiple CPR sessions did not bring it back to life and the color was faded in multiple areas. My DV City (shown in my pics in the link above) is in much better shape, but the leather is still on the drier side even after a good conditioning. You can really tell the difference in the handle comparison pic.
IMO, they are both beautiful dark shades of purple, but Eggplant takes the 🎂.
Eggplant > Dark Violet
Hope this helps!

Is this bc they were replaced?
Is this normal wear for some colors?
Is this just a sign that screams “fake”?
thanks a lot for this beautiful comparison, I was so in love with everything Dark Violet (I had Work and now I have a City) ...but I realize I need an eggplant badly.Posted a few pics to compare F/W 2004 Eggplant 🍆 vs. S/S 2012 Dark Violet 💜 here.

Thank you!!Great comparison pics!!
If you didn't label the Dark Violet, looking at the pics alone I would have assumed it was the F/W 2009 Raisin. Are they that close or am I colour blind? lol
Also, from your pics I can now see why people are constantly drooling over the Eggplant. Wow.
Look and see if it’s printed inside the pocket. Alternatively search carefully along the seams in the sides inside the bag.Has anyone ever seen a Papier tote with no serial number? I bought mine about 5 years ago from a high-end department store in the UK. I have scoured the bag for a serial no. and it's nowhere to be seen. Usually, they're on the tag but mine doesn't have a flip out tag, just Balenciaga printed inside. Really worried that I somehow bought a fakeI sold it on VC last week, I got an email today saying they couldn't authenticate it and are returning it to me.

Yes, it's green. Origan.Hi everyone I’m back from a long hiatus. I came across this classic city from 2006 Y model, but it lists the color as Gris Poivre. This looks more like khaki to me? Price seems a little steep for the dark handles, but I do miss having a green Bal. I was wondering anyone’s thoughts? Thanks!
