I feel like it really became a big thing with social media and Facebook. I mean, big artists had mega fans but they didn’t behave like pack animals.

Mariah Carey has her Lambies, Beyonce has the Beyhive… But the Swifties are a different breed. All I can think is they have this need to protect her since she’s shown more vulnerability and gets picked on in ways that differ from most artists.
I think the mindset is also somewhat the tone set by the music. Taylor's music has a tone of being miffed that peopel don't think like she does. I know of Swifties who will post non-stop about being attacked for loving Taylor ... when what they consider "attacked" is a person admitting they're NOT a Swiftie. When the message of music is "I'm turning my friends on you because you didn't like me" it's not a surprise that the most die hard fans would apply that message to everything.

The Beyhive has been known to get ugly at times.

Fandoms in the social media age are nuts. They feed off of each other’s insanity.

I’m indifferent to Taylor as a performer. She has some really catchy tunes that get in your head. She won’t be at the top level of fame forever, but she’s had enough endurance where her music is the soundtrack for a generation, maybe two generations.

Even when her popularity inevitably wanes, she’ll always be in demand to some extent. If nothing else, in 10-20 years the nostalgia factor will kick in among the fans who grew up with her.
The nostalgia factor is huge for some bands. The Eagles are playing their farewell tour now. I was at one of their concerts at Madison Square Garden and it was packed with people of all ages. Quite a few people brought their teen age kids to the concert. Joe Walsh, one of the lead singers is 76. So I suspect if Taylor can still perform and has the desire to do so, she’ll still sell out big venues when she’s in her 70s. I’d throw in The Rolling Stones and Queen as aging bands that can still sell out the big venues. So there are quite a few examples of performers in their 70s still drawing huge crowds.

Stevie Nicks is out there doing her thing. And Stevie and Taylor seem to have some kind of friendship. So perhaps Taylor is taking notes on how to have a career that spans almost an entire lifetime.

I saw The Eagles at MSG about ten years ago before Glenn Frey died. One of the best concerts I've ever attended.
Thousands of people of all ages singing along to all the songs. And let's not forget Billy Joel's long run at MSG. As for Taylor, she's already a billionaire. She certainly won't need the money when she's 70. Maybe she'll just be a very wealthy and happy grandma by then

There was also the hypocrisy of Violet (?) Grohl's tweet because Dave goes on at length in his book sharing the sweet story of how he flew back to LA from Australia to take her to a daddy/daughter dance at school when she was little. Then flew back again for his next show. The whole round trip was in a 36? hour period. It was a great story, but that made it cringe-inducing for her to comment about Swift's travel. A world tour (like Foo Fighters are on right now, too) is going to leave a large carbon footprint.
I mean, you said it yourself: Violet was little at the time, and she and her dad may even have different views on the subject. I'd hate to have my remarks judged by my parents' behaviors!

In the story of Dave and the daddy daughter dance, he flew Qantas. In his book he says that he and the tour manager took a chartered flight from Perth to Sydney, and the rest of the travel was commercial. So that plane would have flown whether Dave was on it or not.

Meh, Violet strikes me as a typical spoiled celebrity kid who is full of herself. She has been piggybacking on her dad’s fame and really wants to be famous herself. She has a Wikipedia page that calls her a singer but every performance she has ever done was arranged by her father.

Her recent negative view of Taylor could very well be fueled by jealousy or at least envy.

When you're at the top everyone wants to take you down.

That’s true and nobody stays at the top forever. I can’t blame Taylor for making the most of it now while she’s at her peak. With all she has earned in the past decade she is set for life.
I'm not a Swiftie but she and TK seem like good people and well suited to each other. I wish them all the best.
