Ok, I would appreciate advice and now I get the handle problems with the York tote. I kept the black and luggage that I bought on sale 11 days ago but have only used the black one a total of 4 times and not all day each time. I noticed the edges on one strap is almist flaking now and looks like white flakes on edges of half the length on the handle now?! What? Yes I got 30 percent off but this is crazy. Thought even in I got a season or two world be worth it but 11 days and 4 half days of use? I can get cash back for the luggage but what to do with black? What's off is the light oak I used maybe a dozen times this summer and is mint still.

Take the black one back and exchange it, they supposedly fixed the problems they were having with the handles a long time ago. I have the light oak and the straps are fine, mine is over a year old.

Conpletely agree with @lettuceshop, exchange the bag asap as they will replace your handles.

thanks for thoughts....that's it, I think they are both going back....and not so sure ill even exchange, if you look at reviews on tb website and Nordstrom goes on and one about these straps. think the light oak I just got lucky with.......but the black will become a problem and just don't want to deal with trying to replace over and over. I tried to capture in pic, but hard to. the edges where the smooth coating is, is coming up slightly along edges, flaking sorta, and growing with every use.....I'm sure will only get worse...and now I would say I have used this bag maybe 8 times in 3 weeks. so, that's it. I'm returning the luggage one as never used that at all.....and guess I will get credit for the black since used. I tried. that's it. even for just 222.with tax for both, Ill still be regretful when they start looking really bad and wont want to use....rather put that money towards a solid bag with no ongoing issues outside of normal wear.

Probably a good idea to take them back if you're still within the return period. I've had a lot of issues with my York tote and at one point purchased a second one which I returned 3 days later because of the ongoing issues. The issues and hassle aren't worth the time on your part and you could find a similar tote by other brands such as Kate Spade and MK.

Interesting fact: in China it's actually the same factory that makes all these brands' bags.

That doesn't surprise me but I've found that my totes by both other brands have outlasted the York tote by far and it may be due to the material quality or manufacturing processes despite being produced in the same facility.

partially correct. There are 4 factories in China and Southeast Asia that produce all of the handbags that are made in China. 90% of MK and TB are produced by the same company.

Thanks much for thoughts and education on where manufactured. I'm taking them back today and hate doing so as even though similar to MK I much prefer the look and sleekness of the York. As much as the strAps are poorly made, the straps are what make it I think. I wonder if it's all colors that struggle with straps as I took out my light oak this am again and it's mint with least 10 times of use this summer. The luggage I haven't used at all so no idea if will hold up and it's the black that kills me. I can see it now, it's the rubber seal coming up along edges of strap at top of both straps and where the actual buckle is as well. I just know as much as I like the look and price I will be deeply didappointed as they fall apart quickly, assuming the luggage will do the same. For 445.00 I paid on sale I can put towards LV or another that I know will hold up. Really bummed as liked this bag so.

To be honest I'm really toying with just keeping them knowing I'll be lucky to use them one season as I do like them so. Ugh, just know when they fall apart I'll be regretful

Tough decision but I personally feel if it isn't love at first sight/use with a bag then it should go back. Sale price means nothing if you don't think you will enjoy them.

I hate returning things too. I've returned an LV Caissa hobo 3x because the piping on the bottom keeps peeling off. Even higher end designers are prone to quality control issues. If I end up exchanging it a 4th time I'm getting a refund.

Ha. That's the problem, I love the ease of use of these bags. But your are right I shouldn't be motivated by the price to keep them regardless knowing I have an issue with straps with such little use. Bought the 24th last month, so within timeframe but think I can only return the luggage since I've not used it and the black will
Have to get store credit I guess . Dang it, if not for those straps would be perfect.

You should be happy with the product, the price shouldn't be the primary factor. Think about it this way, if you'd paid full price, would you be happy? There's no reason to settle for subpar quality because of the price especially when you could put that money towards a bag you love. Just my two cents although I understand what you mean about the style of the bag. I'll try and post comparison pictures tonight of my totes, in terms of style the MK is very similar with the interior and exterior but the Kate Spade has held up the best out of the 3.

You are too kind to help me and speak of nothing but logic! Appreciate the pics as think I'm waiting and not returning today as can't decide to keep and deal or return as I love the style so. And boutique is a good 30-35 min away from me and may not manage to get there today anyway. But yes, leaning on taking them back

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there an issue with the straps on the York's a while ago and didn't they supposedly fix the issue? Is it possible that the bag you have is old stock. I wonder if it's worth calling the customer service number at TB and picking their brain on this issue. It doesn't make any sense that the light oak should be fine and the black not.

I don't know if the issue was actually fixed, I know someone who bought the tote this past summer and took it back after 3 days because the tote basically caved and one of the straps was coming unstitched.
