I'm hitting up the value village that is on that list Thursday :) The others I will have to hunt down...I've been going to goodwill and salvation army thrifts so far and I found Coach shoes at the one goodwill but they were behind the case and had a laughable price for second hand. This place is close to the ritzy area so I figured it would have more designer and it does, but it's all in the case and all really highly price. They also had signature Coach bags too but also in the case and I'm not into the fabric bags. I need to find places that either don't know brands, or don't care and slap a cheap price tag on them  Most of the places on that list people say are expensive. I'm cheap...so I need to find a cheap place to shop like the Value Village where my sister lives! I'm not sure they are as brand aware since I got my Fendi sweater for 9.99. I need to find a place like that here in Toronto!

About once a month I have an appointment in a distant neighborhood and the drive takes me directly by a St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Shop. It's a large store, dusty and low tech, but the staff are nice. I always try to make time to stop in and check out the bags when I am in the area.

Most of the bags are marked $3 or $1 ($5 at the most) they do have a few slightly more expensive bags behind the counter but they are usually "nothing much" or fake. Often the bags are just piled up in bins and shopping carts and you have to dig through them.

Sometimes I don't find a thing (and I have picked up a couple of fakes there but for that price I don't mind - especially since I know that the money is going to charity) but I have also found some nice items there at very cheap prices.

I've just looked them up online and they do have some SVDP shops in Toronto and elsewhere in Canada, see link below. I don't know if they are located any place close to you or if they offer a large selection of bags; but if they are anything like the SVDP store that I visit, then they don't know bags and they slap a cheap price on them! Good luck!

Here are a few examples of genuine items that I have picked up very cheaply at the SVDP store:

Yes, was exclusively Italy, I believe. The leather texture, and the leather lined interior makes it really gorgeous. I'd love to find these in red or green!!

Sorry, AFAIK the Gramercy bags only came in Black, Wheat or Powder Blue. :nogood:

That's what I thought! And I seem to remember someone having a green Gramercy briefcase style But I RARELY see bags in colors besides black and brown.

You're probably thinking of my green Madison Drake?

I also might have the powder blue Gramercy Satchel but I would probably describe the color as "mint". I need to post a picture.

uhh..yes you do need to do that :p

Yep, the Powder Blue looks more like a pale Aqua in the catalogs.

Oh how beautiful! Something tells me that those bags rarely get resold.

Checked out the new local Savers again this morning now that the Grand Opening crowds have gone - even being there when the doors open may not be good enough! I wandered round for a bit before checking out the "special" section and while I was trying to figure out if the few Coaches I could see were worth taking a look at, a women bought all 5 or 6 of them.

Some days it just don't pay to get up early!

Hyacinth and others - would like your opinion on the longevity and quality of current bags compared to older Made in USA or closer to USA bags. I am rediscovering Coach and like several of the new designs but think they need extra TLC compared to the chewy glove tanned leathers of past decades.

This rediscovery all started when I consigned my early 2000s Janice bag and then missed it!

Would have bee much cheaper just to keep it instead of indulging this new
Hobby!

The Italian Gramercy bags may have come in red because here is a red wallet (nma):

I have a Gramercy wallet in a brownish-taupe color but I've never seen listings in the catalogs for bags in either of those colors although there aren't many catalogs from that time period in my collection. Worth keeping an eye open though.

Ok so I was so excited to get this one. It is a Madison Gracie (4413) "Made In Italy".....I Believe it retailed for around $230.........I paid $10.39 after coupon!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Well, I haven't found a red Italian Gramercy bag yet but we know that some of the Italian Madison bags came in red because Madisonave5011 has a gorgeous red Gracie!
