Thanks, I'm already starting a 2-week program of practicing self-restraint - and no new rehab projects until I finish the ones already in the queue. (I DID apply for my Savers Club card though, no sense in wasting any time once those doors swing open!)

Well naturally, you wouldn't want to waste time! :graucho:

By the way, my Savers gives 25% off every Monday and on Tuesday they give 25% off to special people that are 55 or older!

Really? That's great to know! One of the advantages of being ancient - and I have a birthday coming up too. I hope they have a good selection!

So how long until you get to take advantage of that?

It is like being a walking coupon ;)

One time at the Savers I was picking up some older CDs at a cheap price on a Tuesday. When I got to the checkout line the SA diplomatically said to me "Just to let you know that Tuesday is Seniors Day and customers that are 55 and older get a 25% discount on all their purchases. I just wanted to let you know in case you know somebody like that - someone 55 or older - so that you could tell them about the discount!"

I just laughed and said "Yes, I am 55 or older and I would be happy to accept the discount, and thank you for telling me so nicely that I look old!"

She immediately said "Oh, you don't look old! I just mentioned it because of this!" And she held up one of the CDs that I was buying, The Bobby Darin Story!

I said "Really! I've been outed by Bobby Darin?! I will have to be more careful with my selections in the future!"

She just looked a bit confused.

Actually Bobby Darin is a bit ancient even for me, but I remembered that my oldest sister had that album and used to play it all the time so I decided to pick it up because I love "Beyond the Sea."

Anyway, senior discounts are one of the few advantages of getting older! :D

This is what I'm doing...no new rehabs till I finish the backlog. Of course, my backlog is the bags that need more work, which can be a little less fun.

I got some emu oil yesterday so I think later on today I'm going to dig out my "Cashin for Meyers" kisslock bucket bag and see how it works conditioning her.

I would be happy to take rehab back logged bags off your hands ladies LOL!
Savers is the same as Value Village here I think? Man the only Value Villages in this city are in really crummy bad areas of the city where there is low income housing and high crime rates...Really makes me want to go shopping there...NOT! There is a goodwill type store near the ritzy area of the city but they know brands and price things weirdly. There is also no order to the store and the people shopping there are rude (I'm convinced they are all resellers since this store was voted best thrift store in Toronto and that was mainly because of the designer goods people found there). I'm depressed that in this great city I can't find one good place that doesn't know brands so I can scoop up some cheap designer things! Especially Coach. I'm on a major ban but who can say no to thrifted prices!
I'm counting the days until I can go back to the value village near where my sister lives. That was where I found my $10 Fendi sweater and pricey scarves. Been too spoiled by that place and now find it hard to go anywhere else.

Rarity just posted this link in the rehab and rescue thread to help you search for thrift stores in your area, but I don't know if it is just for the US - but maybe you can find a similar site for Canada?

That's great - but be careful what you wish for - my pile of vintage project bags has grown dramatically since they opened a Savers near me. I can't keep up with rehabbing them but I can't seem to stop buying them! :shrugs:

One really nice thing about Savers is that you can exchange items within a week of purchase (with the receipt and the tag attached) unlike Goodwill and Salvation Army and many other thrift shops.

The only affordable thrift chain in my area does not allow returns. It's why Ive gotten burned on so many great fakes! I try to check them out on my smart phone while in the store, but there's only so much you can do in a really short period of time and I have to trust my instincts. Lately, my instincts are MUCH BETTER and all I've learned from Hyacinth and her written guides has helped immensely. But I'm going to start harrassing the owners of this chain to allow some exchange/returns or instore credit..ANYTHING would help
