Selling on Poshmark

TLDR: Be cautious selling on Poshmark. Might be worth accepting a low price from a consignment company to avoid dealing with crazy people.

Sorry for the loooong post, just needed to vent.

Before the crazy bag boom, when I was tired of a bag, I sold it to Fashionphile. With the buyouts they have been offering recently, I resorted to selling my bags on Poshmark.

I have never had anyone return ANYTHING from my closet. I have had over 50+ transactions. Most people leave me really kind love notes.

Regrettably, I really did enjoy giving people a great deal on Poshmark. Knowing that my bags were going to homes that would love and use them! Sad to say, I encountered someone that has taken advantage of me.

I reached out to Poshmark support, hoping that my issue will get resolved quickly. Unfortunately, this situation has made me think twice about continuing to sell my bags on the site.

As soon as I accepted an offer on a Black classic Chanel bag (full set), I had other people message me to relist for a higher price. However, I kept my word to the buyer and shipped it for the price she bought it for. I know if I re-listed the bag I would have another buyer immediately.

Buyer complained about minute scratches upon arrival. These flaws were not present prior to shipping out the bag. In the order status chat, I stated that I photograph and video all of my items before shipping them to HQ/or buyer. In this case, it was a bag way over $500.

In a change of tune, after saying I take videos and photos prior to shipping, she then stated Poshmark damaged the item. On the last day to accept the order, she filed a request for a return.

Buyer stated multiple times in the order status chat that she doesn't want to return the item "but wants to know what happened". What is her angle? I believe she was fishing for credit from Poshmark, and by her actions, I do not think this was her first time. If she didn’t want to return, which she stated numerous times, why was she complaining about damage? Damage that she doesn’t even deem worthy of a return!?!? Why would she open a case for return?

Anyway, in the end, Poshmark approved her return. She’s had the bag in her possession for over 5 days. Asked if she would return the bag to me, and she stopped responding…

Today, I messaged her on her posts and our private chats asking when she would ship my bag back as I had others that wanted to purchase. She then immediately cancelled the return?!?!

I believe she was emailing with Poshmark privately to get a store credit. From looking online, Poshmark usually gives 10%. That means she received $390 in Poshmark credit.

I do not want to think that this buyer would intentionally destroy an item to favor a case. However, my concerns are present.

It has left such a sour taste! I sold the item in good faith. She haggled me down to $3,900 and I reluctantly accepted. She strung me along with a sob story about how much she wanted the bag. She complained about sales tax and it being over her budget. Which is hilarious now knowing she lives in Delaware (where the package was delivered) and there is no sales tax there. What a liar.

Taking a closer look at her Poshmark page (after the mess), it’s filled with posts about calling people out for scamming. It’s comical.

This situation was so bad I might close my closet all together. This sucks!
my buying and selling on Posh is around $200 or less....I think selling bags for thousands would be too scary for me. Hope your situation gets resolved

Interested in the taller Hac shape.
I would like to add that I just confirmed with Fashionphile that, in addition to the enormous loss on my Ostrich trade, they do charge full sales tax on the new bag part of the trade. That translates to an additional $800 plus in extra sales taxes over a Rebag trade-in purchase for a Birkin. I said to the F'Phile client services person, "So F'Phile actually pockets the difference", almost completely negating their supposed 10% additional value on the trade-in item. Maybe she didn't mean to say Yes to that but she did...

LOL I never did have problems. Maybe you should give up selling, if you think it's inevitable. Again it's in your control. You keep proving my point
Yes, thank you, it is inevitable and I still selling and will keep selling, selling is a great game to me I really enjoy it even sometimes had those problematic buyers, still, inevitable, part of the game just like you and I will die someday, even we haven't die yet, will die someday  and you will encounter problematic buyer, inevitable, someday, sooner or later.

please correct me if I'm wrong, so you sold 1 to Fashionphile, and another 1 had traded to Rebag, correct? and Rebag (not Fashionphile) charges full sales tax on the new bag that you traded to?

@juju2016 I am confused also. I thought that Fashionphile offered buy out, site credit or NM gift card; while Rebagg offers buyout, site credit or trade.on mycRetourne, Tebag offered quite a lot more than Fashionphile. Rebag does not charge full tax for the trade item. Fashionphile dies. Rebar charges sales tax on the differential between the trade value and the cost of the new item. For example, Rev charged $213 on the “new” purchase, while F’Phile would have charged over $600.

@juju2016
Did you actually mean you sold a bag to Fashionphile and take it as store credit then use that store credit plus more money to buy another bag from fashionphile? That would make sense to me because it was not a “ trade” it was a purchase, that’s why you’d have to pay the difference plus all tax

No, I bought a bag from FASHIONPHILE then sold that bag back to them. I am taking cash for that one. The other bag was purchased from RealReal. I am Trading that bag to Rebag and paying ta. On the value difference between their bag and the bag I am trading.
