Their offers seem to prove that most designer bags cannot be viewed as investments, rather as something to buy and enjoy.

This! I follower a YouTuber who is always qualifying her excessive LV purchases as "investments" and I find it so annoying and inaccurate. It's not an investment if it goes down in value, most of which do. I currently own 8 LV pieces and I think only one would fetch more than I paid, and only because I've owned it for 10 years and it's only worth maybe $300 more than my original purchase price. $300 over a 10 year period is a terrible "investment." Also every bag I've ever sold, either to consignment or directly myself, has sold for less than I paid. So not exactly an investment.

Most of things can be investment, if you bought the right thing at the right price. Be it a house be it a bag.
Hard disagree that "most things can be investment, if you bought the right thing at the right price."

I'm sitting at my comp looking at my computer, my desk, my lamp, my letter sorter - do these qualify as "most things?" Because none of these things are worth more than I paid and never will be. A bag does not compare to real estate. A woman's purse is very rarely an investment.

If you bought these common stuff as you said as computer, your desk, your lamp your letter sorter at retail plus tax, then of course hardly making money from reselling. Because there are millions of them were produced, what’s your advantage to compete with other sellers?

If you buy a bag because you like it and paid retail plus tax, then of course less chance making money when reselling.

The mind set is different, then it is difficult to make money.

I buy most of my bags not just liking them, I also thinking of their resale value, that doesn’t guarantee I always make money, because market changes, and I also makes mistakes sometimes, but I sold them for profit most of the time.

I’ve wanted to rehome a few things just to free up space or because I no longer care for a particular brand and decided to use Fashionphile. They lowball like no one’s business for many things. There are a few brands here and there where you’ll make out ok (recoup decent amount of your money spent) but for the most part some of their quotes are so low it’s actually insulting. In many cases I took it home to have it sit unused or gift it to a family member than to sell to them for it to be marked up above retail. FP=Greedy. Look for other platforms if possible.
They do. I have only BNWT with plastic covers and full package Chanel bags and SLGs. Chanel Affinity they offer 30% of market price as if it's used and ruined with holes, Chanel zipper case from current collection they offered 35% of the price. That's not just "industry" that is struggling, Rebag was selling exactly the same item for above retail in used condition and it's sold.
Fashionpfile is offering decent quotes for Hermes quota bags only. And they horrendously lowball for everything else like it was looted or something.

I Just submitted a Chanel reissue mini in silver caviar which I purchased from FP two years ago. They offered me a really low price, I thought. Just $1700. I don’t know if I’ll sell somewhere else or keep it for now.
Chanel's resale value across multiple platforms has dropped tremendously. I bought and resold a few. If I were to resale I'd lose about $5k overall. Not bad but not ideal.

I think it was the hype around the heart bags. Prices for everything Chanel soared when they were released. Those heart bags were being listed at $8-10k I remember that lol. Barbie's movie helped Chanel's resale value bump a little bit but overall it's a dud. Fashionphile's prices are pushed up around the holidays but the summer sales are a better indicator of value.

I hate counterfeit "superfakes"... but it's the elephant in the room. Chanel's lambskin is comparable to the counterfeit leather. Add in the poor quality control and abandoning gold for whatever nonsense they have now. Affairs are gross but Chanel isn't upholding their end, the pool guy has the same junk for a fraction of the financial commitment.

I cling to my Birkin parachute and watch Chanel crumble.

right now it's a buyer's market. FP cannot sell at super high prices, so they don't buy at those either. Plus, in a brutal way, it is good business to buy as low as possible and sell as high as possible.

for some brands, market value just isn't as high - so they are not low balling, they are buying at market. They can't buy for as high as they sell, obviously.

I factor in the convenience of not having to do much myself - on ebay, you always have the drama of someone trying to cheat the other, on VC you have quite high fees and it can take quite a while, etc etc - FP is convenient in that sense.

That too, I follow the prices but I'm talking FP is listing used up, f-up bags with dirty rubbed corners for double and even triple what they are offering to me for brand new of the same model. Yes, it's not above the retail any more, but they still offer those high quotes for certain groups of people. And these is not an old inventory, it's recently listed. Maybe employees related.

I've just deleted my account with Fashionphile after 8 years of purchasing over 40 bags.

The story begins... I accepted a quote from FP, attached their label with my US return address on it, and dropped off at UPS Canada (IMPORTANT). They've happily accepted my packages with my US return address in the past with no problem, and receipted me for this one.

Long story short...the package was deemed lost, and UPS opened a claim on my behalf as FP refused to, since I had posted from a country that differed from the label, a thing I had done several times before.

After at least six calls to FP (two messages left with claims dept, who never returned the call) I was told that claims didn't accept it because I posted from Canada, and that they had told customer service to let me know. Customer service, of course, didn't.

Fast forward to today...I finally spoke to someone who spoke to someone who spoke to someone else and they all said they were sorry but couldn't accept the claim. I asked them, as a good will gesture, to pay out the $850 to a loyal, frequently buying customer of theirs (over 4k last month). They refused, saying that they "couldn't".

I disputed that, saying they certainly could if they wanted to, it wasn't rocket science after all and it was clear I dealt in good faith. They still refused.

My account with them is now closed, I will have no more dealing wth Fashionphile in the future. They asked why I wanted to close my account, this is what I wrote:

I find their lack of empathy and refessionalism pathetic. Good bye FP.

OMG, I am SO sorry this happened to you! And I'm also sorry to hear FP didn't handle it well.

I'm so sorry that happened! Is UPS obligated to reimburse you in some way since they lost the package?
Because of stories like this, I'm very hesitant to consign with or purchase from all of the online second-hand marketplaces. At least in the case of purchase you're protected through your credit card or PayPal, but with consignment there's no recourse I can think of unfortunately.
It probably takes longer to sell but I choose to consign with my local consignment store where I can physically go in and talk to the owner/ employees. This month I decided to give a chance to real real, I'll see how that goes...

I’ll be checking in with UPS again, but I’m not hopeful TBH. They keep telling me to contact FP. 🙄

I think you should open a formal claim with UPS if you haven't already (see below). I'm not sure if fashionphile provides labels with extra insurance included. Hopefully they do, if not It looks like UPS provides coverage up to $100 only for packages if no additional insurance was purchased.

--- Online Claim Submission: Go to UPS's Claims Page and log in to your account.

--- Phone Submission: Call UPS customer service (1-800-PICK-UPS or your local number) to report the loss and start the claims process.

I really hope this works out for you somehow. I had lost packages show up after 2 months, hopefully they'll find it sooner or later.
