**Selling/consigning** with Fashionphile

Just wanted to share my in-person experience from earlier this week:

I went to FP @ NM SF earlier this week hoping to sell 3 bags: Chanel vintage diana flap, Chanel boy wallet on chain, and Goyard St. Louis GM. However, the quotes were much lower than I had expected. They couldn't even offer a quote for the St. Louis GM citing that they have too in stock. However, I checked online the previous night and they only had one of the exact color and size in stock, so I'm guessing they meant St. Louis stock in general?

Back in April 2024, I received a pretty good quote for the vintage Diana flap, but I decided to hold onto it since I wasn’t in a rush to sell. This time around, they quoted me $1k less, which shocked me. I didn’t end up selling any of my bags, and I think the guy assisting me was annoyed, but I’m unwilling to let them go at such low quotes, especially when I know they double the price when listing them.

The guy also mentioned that Neiman Marcus’s partnership with Fashionphile is ending soon, though he didn't share when exactly. He said they will be closing the Fashionphile location inside SF and opening a showroom in SF or Palo Alto (I forget which), similar to the one in NYC and San Diego(?). I wanted to pass this info along in case anyone is considering redeeming NM gift cards.
I have never tried to sell anything through FP, but think about from time to time. Do you know if Nationwide the partnership between NM and FP is ending, or is it location specific due to a standalone boutique opening in your area? Thanks for sharing your experience... I do keep hearing that quotes have been rather low the past few months.

I’ve wanted to rehome a few things just to free up space or because I no longer care for a particular brand and decided to use Fashionphile. They lowball like no one’s business for many things. There are a few brands here and there where you’ll make out ok (recoup decent amount of your money spent) but for the most part some of their quotes are so low it’s actually insulting. In many cases I took it home to have it sit unused or gift it to a family member than to sell to them for it to be marked up above retail. FP=Greedy. Look for other platforms if possible.

I haven't sold to them for a while. A couple years ago I did make a profit selling my Chanel classic and Hermes K32 to them. Now I mostly use TRR because I can send them clothing and don't need to take photos.

they gave me a lot more for my watch than the two jewelers I checked with offered...guess it depends on what they consider desirable

It all depends on what you're selling. It's always a good idea to check their website to see if they have other items like yours for sale, if that's the case typically you'll get a low ball offer. I've been very fortunate and gotten very good offers for everything I've sold to them.

In the past they used to offer decent buy out prices. Now they offer lowball offers on everything including Hermes. I agree some of the offers are insulting and then they turn around and mark it up about 60%. I’m sorry some may not agree but I think it is greedy and opportunistic.

I understand business models, growth forecasts, profit margins, etc., but their customer service model has changed considerably. It used to be fun dealing with them not so much anymore. I don’t buy or sell with them as mich as I used to. As someone else said I have gone back to using TRR when I want to sell something and they offer little perks which Fashionphile does not.

I read here once that FP's first buyout offer to you is always the highest, and then they go down / lowball you from there. They're trying to rope you in as a customer with that first offer. I have also found that to be my experience. I sold my LV Neverfull to FP a few years ago, they had offered me a decent enough buyout for my first bag. Every item I've tried to consign since then has been lowballed, even with limited stock of the same item on their site. I either end up selling to TRR or Yoogi's, or just selling locally.

Same here. I had a piece from YSL that I bought and disliked a few days after purchase. Unfortunately, due to a bad bout of the flu and then travelling for work and the holidays last year, I wasn’t able to return it within the return window.

The bag was brand-new, still with the tags and dust bag etc (even the original shopping bag and receipt) and FP lowballed it by over 40%.

Most of my designer bag collection came from them pre and early pandemic when you could actually get a deal. Agree with comments- I've stopped looking at their site for both buying and selling, it's hard to reconcile what I used to be able to get from them vs. what they are now. I'd rather hold onto bags than feel taken.

that's not always the case, sometimes later offers would be much higher than the first one, even double triples.

it's very much depends on the market and the item(s). can't use past experiences to measure current market prices and offers, this year is very different to any other times in history.

I think they are all going to start lowballing. FP is reducing prices pretty consistently as well. Personally, I think there is so much turmoil, fear and unrest in the world right now that people are focusing on other things as well. Their quotes were much better a few years ago.

I Just submitted a Chanel reissue mini in silver caviar which I purchased from FP two years ago. They offered me a really low price, I thought. Just $1700. I don’t know if I’ll sell somewhere else or keep it for now.
2 years ago, it was high time for Chanel bags.

Right now, everything is down.

On one hand, it’s low for a classic, on the other hand, reissue is even less popular right now, if to sell on your own, you need to at least sell for $2,500 to make it worth selling on your own. Depends on how long you dont mind sit on it and the condition of the bag.

Frankly, I don’t buy this bag this color in very good used condition unless its under $1,200, but that’s just me though, I saw people buy things that I wouldn’t buy at high prices all the time.

I did the same recently for a brand new Loewe puzzle tote that I bought on a trip earlier this year. I was on the fence about it when I got home. They offered me 50% of the current retail price. I kept it and actually enjoyed using it on my latest trip. But I bought an Hermes watch from them a few years ago and got an email months later asking if I wanted to sell it back to them. I guess it all depends on the brand and item. Their offers seem to prove that most designer bags cannot be viewed as investments, rather as something to buy and enjoy.
