The Ziplock freezer bags are food safe so shouldn’t damage your scarves for short term storage.

However no plastic is good for long term storage of fabric.

H at one time, if I remember correctly, offered a silk scarf travel envelope. This was quite some time ago & pricey.

You could make your own with an old trashed scarf?

When DH’s dry cleaner retired they sold him a couple of blocks of wedding dress archive tissue paper. You know for permanent wedding gown storage in a presentation box.

Perhaps ask your dry cleaner if they could sell you a few sheets?

All terrific ideas--thanks for the suggestions! Definitely going to think about making or finding a travel envelope...

Plastic is OK if it can breathe - cut the corners off the bags and any plastic fumes (outgassing) will escape AND moisture will escape
Plastic is bad about trapping moisture

IMHO, orange boxes fit very tight and also trap moisture, you can buy little bags of moisture absorbing crystals at Amazon, not expensive. The same type of packets that seem to be shipped with everything and one tosses. I did find articles from museums saying these were OK for textile storage
Amazon also sells acid free tissue paper - cheap

Ziplocs are fine unless you stack up too many , then they start to slide off one another

Ooh, wouldn't have thought of cutting off the corners. And have been wondering if something should be added to the orange boxes long-term, either for moisture or moth repellant.

How do you store your scarves in your luggage when you're traveling? I'm a new collector, and so far, I've just placed one or two folded scarves in between soft (and clean!) clothing items, but wondering if there's a better way.

Also: Any advice for bringing scarves on the go generally, especially when rain is a possibility? I keep wanting to wear a scarf to an event e.g. a wedding...and then rain is predicted, so I leave it at home. Has anyone tried bringing a scarf along in their bag, perhaps inside a sealed plastic bag to protect from rain, and then putting it on when you get where you're going?
I use ziploc bags. You can put several scarves into one bag.

I dont have too many orange boxes so I put two in one box, separated by tissue
On top I place an acid free card stock board , cu to size, it weights down the fabric ever so lightly
And on top of the board I put a coiled ribbon, if I have one, and a moisture absorbing pack
Finally, on the outside I place removable labels (Amazon) for identification, mine are colored according the color of the scarf inside

How do you all care for your Hermès scarves? How do you store them (or display them)? How do you clean them? I am looking to buy my first Hermès scarf next time I am in London, but I am nervous I won't know how to care for it and I will ruin it somehow.

Feel free to have a browse on this thread as there is plenty of info on how members store their scarves. Some in a creative way that also serves as a display here. There is a specific thread about cleaning scarves here. Enjoy!

Hello everyone,
I need some tips...
I used to live in Canada in a house with a fairly big walk in closet, so, after I wear any Hermes scarf, I lay it flat on the center table and 2 days later, put it back into the box...
But I just moved to Paris....as you know, Parisian apartments are tiny hee hee.
1. If I wear the scarf and I am afraid that I sweated during the wear.....should I put it back in the box after wear with a 'silicon dry pack' inside the box? as there is not really an area for me to lay it flat with my kid having access to the whole apartment haha. or do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks everyone

I fold my recently worn in half and drape on two light-colored velvet hangers. I then hang this perpendicular to clothes using the end of another hanger.

This way I can check easily to see if it’s in need of a wash (can turn to air both sides). I usually store after a day or so.

Hope you find a solution that works for you. :flowers:

Hi all, does anyone hang them with the hanging systems sold by Hermes? I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience. Thanks!

You want food grade or bags specifically for textiles.

I have the system but after seeming it in action decided not to set it. You need a talented & meticulous installer & the scarves Show best when new & unwashed. If the gem shrinks

I hang mine over a tension curtain rod between the walls of one of the dormers of my bedroom. I have a black out curtain blocking sunlight on the window and hang my daily scarves there to air out And hopefully release some wrinkles. I have also seen people install like a towel rod on a wall for display and/or hanging it out. On Instagram at lamadameclaudette has a bar on the wall for display but could easily also be for daily wear scarves to hang. You could hang it up high so your kids won’t reach ;). From Claudette below.

And velvet hangers - YES - silk clings to them ! Thumb way up !
