I see your problem (and that would drive me bonkers too...no way could I stack mine). They’d be everywhere fast. Could you put the box flat and lay them folded as they are but overlapping? That’s how my 90s are.
I’m headed to try out your suggestion now!
I wanted to avoid layers in the colorful scarves for ease of choice (and b/c they look so delicious side by side, but I think you’re right about the rainbow becoming a hot mess.
Thanks :flowers:

You're welcome! I fold my 90s up loosely and lay them this way. These are most of the 90/100s and 45s. I also fold them backside out so the fronts don't collect dust.

Inspired by all of the great ideas here I went to visit the container store and found this... it fits in the corner, on wheels and my shawls fit. I have work on the best way to fold them to maximize space.

Trying to determine the best way to fold some of my silks.

I would love something like a wooden chest, but space is limited and wheels help if I need to move it. Someday...
Love this!

You can use envelopes as small as 10 in on a side. You could go as small as 10 x 10 in sq for a 90 cm carre. But, I've never found square envelopes in that size. So, you'll probably wind up with a rectangle eg 11.5 x 10. Just pick boards that are at least 1/2 smaller eg 11 x 9.5
Wow an 11 year old post ...
In retrospect, the envelopes are a bit much, one has to fold the scarf perfectly, insert the boards etc BUT, they are clear and I can see the silk, pull it out, handle with impunity, love that. Mine are tagged with colored flags on the side - so, an envelope goes with a particular scarf. A tedious system, if you want to get them out a lot
BUT, I cannot stand orange boxes, - you cannot see inside them, and they are heavy ! And if you pile up them, one on top of the other more than 10 deep/tall, then it is hard to get to the bottom one, the pile is awkward and heavy to maneuver

Also, bonus photo — my cat in one my drawers (this is the orange / pink one, I organize them by colors)....

I find it almost impossible to keep my cats organized by color. :)

It seems that very few Scarfies store their silks by hanging. Is this a numbers/space issue or do you think this is this very bad for the scarves? I have mine draped on tissue over velvet hangers and just lay another piece of tissue on top. I’ve tried putting them in drawers but I don’t seem to wear most things I don’t see.

Lol!...Except underwear. Which is worn daily.

Folding backwards for “exposed scarves” is genius!

The leaning (& crashing) tower of boxes is exactly what prompted my search for scarf storage wisdom... the ladies here do not disappoint in providing options.

I implemented dear Bunnycat’s suggestion of laying scarves fanned out and I separated layers with acid-free tissue. I really prefer this method and can easily lift out layers sorted into color families to simplify selection.
I kept my few plisses & twillies in boxes.
Here’s what I wound up with:

:rofl:Cats are notoriously hard to organize!

I like the idea of the velvet hangers. I still have to find a system that will work for me...:flowers:

Late to the party, but have enjoyed reading this thread & have learned SO MUCH!
:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
Like so many of you, my collex has outgrown my current H box system.
I picked up these deeper boxes awhile ago on a whim and am trying to make them work...
Boxes on Right have magnetic close lids for easy access. The large one fits my non-H silks in their boxes & loose H ribbon (didn’t bother lining this one with acid-free tissue).
The zippered boxes on Left have pull handles -which I love- b/c my available storage is up high (and they’re easily grabbed in a scarf emergency). The smaller one fits three 90’s nicely fanned out (folded as in H box), so I’ve layered them using acid free tissue. I grouped them roughly by color group (neutrals, browns, blacks). I don’t reach for neutrals as often, so they’re towards bottom.
That left the larger zip box and smaller magnet lid box for whites + colors. Here’s where I’m struggling...
Too many divine beauties to lay flat, so I did the additional fold to stack a la Marie Kondo “standing up” (placed box on it’s side) and filled ‘er up. :whut:
I partially filled the last box using this method. I love to see the gorgeous array of colors in these last two boxes, but am about to hyperventilate at the amount of unauthorized wrinkling going on. :wtf:
The smaller magnetic box also doesn’t seem to be quite deep enough, so I fear it’s back to the drawing board...
If anyone’s still following this thread, suggestions are welcomed.
Very nice! I do something similar for my scarves. I keep the box flat the regular way (not "standing up" and fold the scarves as you have but I stack them in several "towers" (thanks for the suggestion @momasaurus !). So scarves are oriented like yours but the box is laid flat in the "regular" way - my words are making it sound more complicated than it is :). Before that I was trying to stand up my scarf stacks vertically on the narrow edges and THAT was a wrinkle monster. I like how your standing box lets you see all the beauties at once.

Sometimes I'll assemble outfits on the hanger a day or two before I wear them, and I'll drape the scarf (bias folded) on the hanger with the outfit. But I don't store them long-term on the hanger. In my small & busy closet, they'd get knocked around too much that way.

In retrospect the clear envelopes were from my rebellious phase ... I have never understood how an (orange) cardboard box can be an object of veneration lol
I still use some envelopes, but not for anything in heavy rotation.

So glad no coffee in my mouth when read this....it would be on keyboard. What a hoot! Still giggling.

This reminds me that I never posted my old storage system using the envelopes and boards, hanging file folders letter size for 90cm and smaller formats and legal size for 140cm, H boxes - I think the ones for Picotin 26 which by a stroke of luck I found fitted letter size hanging files, and assorted file boxes fitted with legal size hanging folders. The boxes went on open shelving.
When I moved, I had the opportunity to remodel all the closets in my new home. So I graduated from the “file” system to this:

But the file system is still good for overruns!
