This reminds me that I never posted my old storage system using the envelopes and boards, hanging file folders letter size for 90cm and smaller formats and legal size for 140cm, H boxes - I think the ones for Picotin 26 which by a stroke of luck I found fitted letter size hanging files, and assorted file boxes fitted with legal size hanging folders. Viola:

The boxes went on open shelving.
When I moved, I had the opportunity to remodel all the closets in my new home. So I graduated from the “file” system to this:

But the file system is still good for overruns!

The open shelving. Love this idea! Can we see how you store them in the drawers? Do you cover them to keep dust off? TIA!!:flowers:

Wowwww!!! :wtf:
I'd love to see inside the drawers as well!

Very nice! I do something similar for my scarves. I keep the box flat the regular way (not "standing up" and fold the scarves as you have but I stack them in several "towers" (thanks for the suggestion @momasaurus !). So scarves are oriented like yours but the box is laid flat in the "regular" way - my words are making it sound more complicated than it is . Before that I was trying to stand up my scarf stacks vertically on the narrow edges and THAT was a wrinkle monster. I like how your standing box lets you see all the beauties at once.
So pretty!
Thanks! I quickly abandoned the giant tower for fear of wrinkles like you said (thanks for verifying that)

Oh, thanks to everyone's likes and sweet comments!
Here are some pics, I have kept the 90cm in their envelopes but without boards. The stacks are roughly organized by color and even though I can't see everything in 1 glance, it's not difficult to pull out a stack to match with what I thinking of wearing and putting them back in drawer is easy.
There doesn't seem to be any dust to worry about.
One thing I would do differently is to have faceless drawers with a dip for pulling out, because having face and hardware means rivets on the inside of the drawer and one might worry about accidental pulls against the rivets. I solve that by putting that blu tack stuff over the rivets.

Wow an 11 year old post ...
In retrospect, the envelopes are a bit much, one has to fold the scarf perfectly, insert the boards etc BUT, they are clear and I can see the silk, pull it out, handle with impunity, love that. Mine are tagged with colored flags on the side - so, an envelope goes with a particular scarf. A tedious system, if you want to get them out a lot
BUT, I cannot stand orange boxes, - you cannot see inside them, and they are heavy ! And if you pile up them, one on top of the other more than 10 deep/tall, then it is hard to get to the bottom one, the pile is awkward and heavy to maneuver

Agreed on the annoyance of orange boxes!

I love the envelopes for twills. Mousselines get a bit crushed, and cashmeres are just too much fabric. (Probably 140 silks would be too much fabric, too, but I don't own any.)

I tend to drop my scarves somewhere safe from the cats when I get home and then every few days put things away. It takes just a few minutes, but I'm lazy. Filled and empty envelopes live in the space above my sweater baskets if they haven't made it back to the box yet, and I don't tie an envelope to a scarf. It sounds like you have a bunch of scarf information on the envelope - all my obsessive documenting lives in my computer or Evernote.

I also organize by name, not color, as sometimes it's just too much mental effort to define which is a primary color for a scarf. (Into the Canadian Wild, anyone?)

I will note that the plastic on some of my more-used envelopes is loosening from the paper - I need to spend some quality time with sellotape to repair.

My only issue is that the twills are on top of my wardrobe and the boxes are heavy and want to fall on my head as I pull them down... and I am worried about moths. :frown: So this weekend I think I will find a single plastic box that can sit on the wardrobe floor, and give all my twills a week in the freezer, where the cashmeres and mousselines are currently hiding.

Anyone have any suggestions for moths? Cedar, lavender, and other drugstore options aren't cutting it. As long as I can keep poison away from the cats, I'm open to anything. Google keeps giving me "natural options" - apparently my search for "non-natural moth killer poison KILL KILL KILL" doesn't compute for them...

I have a vision for a “moth moat,” but I can’t quite bring an image into focus for plan and execution.
The idea of my fridge/freezer as a “vacay fire safe” is suddenly taking root.

I have done many things for sorting scarves, now, I am into sorting by artist
The sort by title has never worked for me - everything winds up sorted under L or T - for le/la/les/the
Had too many issues with sort by color - does aqua go under blue, green or turquoise ? Multi color ? But, the color flags are still there, so the stuff for a given artist is sorted by color
But, I have several piles - heavy rotation, too pristine to ever wear - yes, unfortunately I have that category, awaiting work - repair hanging tag/wash/photograph, the storage solution - boxes, bags vs envelopes etc is different for each pile
I currently like clear freezer trays - say what ? - I can see contents and move around the heavy rotation ones
I have had lots of fun reorganizing, there is no one perfect way, but, I have tried them all
On moths, I get it but have no answer and my latest thought is dont put into sealed plastic - scarves need to breathe, so, i cut the corners off - to let moths in LOL , dryer sheets ? would they repel moths ?

You got away with no boards since your 90s lie flat, mine are stored on edge like file folders at doctor office

Thanks again for letting me share. I also want to say this thread has been wonderful and inspiring and I am so glad that it was 1 of the first threads I came upon after joining the forum. You can tell that I just played around with many of the ideas that came from here.
Storing our scarves our objects of love is an ongoing project that doesn’t seem to end, at least for me if only to appreciate all the creativity many posters have so willingly shared.

Last but not least, those clear acrylic cases and drawer sets that are popular for storing and organizing make up cosmetics etc, check them out if you like the idea of putting them on open shelves or tabletops. I think the ones with divided grid like interiors work nicely for Twilly storage, like having tray-fuls of Twillys!
