Oh, thanks to everyone's likes and sweet comments!
Here are some pics, I have kept the 90cm in their envelopes but without boards. The stacks are roughly organized by color and even though I can't see everything in 1 glance, it's not difficult to pull out a stack to match with what I thinking of wearing and putting them back in drawer is easy.
There doesn't seem to be any dust to worry about.
One thing I would do differently is to have faceless drawers with a dip for pulling out, because having face and hardware means rivets on the inside of the drawer and one might worry about accidental pulls against the rivets. I solve that by putting that blu tack stuff over the rivets.

Faintworthy! :faint:
May I suggest using something else rather than blu tac? Part of my duties used to be office reno. When we cleaned up walls which had posters on them attached with blu tac, we would find little dots of grease staining the paint work under the blobs of blu tac.
Maybe use the felt dots which are sold to protect hardwood floors from chair legs? Or paint over the rivets with a thick layer of clear nail polish?

I have done many things for sorting scarves, now, I am into sorting by artist
The sort by title has never worked for me - everything winds up sorted under L or T - for le/la/les/the
Had too many issues with sort by color - does aqua go under blue, green or turquoise ? Multi color ? But, the color flags are still there, so the stuff for a given artist is sorted by color
But, I have several piles - heavy rotation, too pristine to ever wear - yes, unfortunately I have that category, awaiting work - repair hanging tag/wash/photograph, the storage solution - boxes, bags vs envelopes etc is different for each pile
I currently like clear freezer trays - say what ? - I can see contents and move around the heavy rotation ones
I have had lots of fun reorganizing, there is no one perfect way, but, I have tried them all
On moths, I get it but have no answer and my latest thought is dont put into sealed plastic - scarves need to breathe, so, i cut the corners off - to let moths in LOL , dryer sheets ? would they repel moths ?

Ah, remembering the artist is again too much for my brain - but your expertise is well beyond mine! :)

My short time shelving books taught me to alphabetize things skipping "a" or "the", so I do that too for scarves. I still get hung up sometimes - "Dans un Jardin Anglais" gets put with the other Jardins quite often, which makes sense in my head. And scarves with multiple names end up wherever depending on the first one I remember...

My envelopes are like the one in the first post, so card paper + a plastic window, so they breathe fine. The current boxes are fabric over cardboard so also breathable, and also moth-permeable. I think a big, sealing plastic box would be ok, especially if it's opened a few times a week. Now just to find one. There's an Ikea blocks from my place, but Ikea on Saturdays... shiver.

I was a professional librarian for many years so I must echo this comment! (Although I don’t have enough scarves to be concerned about in terms of organising and anyway I have run out of space). When they come at the beginning of a title “A” and “The” are never used for putting things in alphabetical order. So the French equivalents (Un, Une, La, Le and L’) should not be used either. I use the next word in the title.

We really suffer with moths in our house, so I still use the boxes (which is why I have run out of space). I couldn’t bear to see H scarves with moth holes!!! Eek!

We never had moth problems until last winter. I am still not sure what happened or how they got in, but they destroyed a Phillip Lim wool dress, a kilt from Scotland ( :crybaby: ) and FIVE (5!!!!!) handmade wool rugs...basically all my wool rugs I had collected several decades ago....so now any cashmere or wool scarves or clothes are basically locked up or boxed and that will just have to do!

Goodness! That sounds awful - what terrible losses. Ours haven’t been so bad (we don’t own very much that was expensive or heirloom quality), but I would be devastated if anything happened to my H or Liberty scarves.

Yes- I was pretty crushed when I saw all the damage. The rugs had all been stored but not somewhere mothproof. Argh. I’m so glad I thought in advance when I bought H cashmere and keep them in a cedar lined chest of drawers.

My local boutique uses these faceless drawers for the cashmere shawls. I like your system. I see you too are struggling with the plisses :)

Thanks for the tip. I’m storing the 5 I have rolled lengthwise in one drawer and it takes up more room than I would like lol.
Plisses are contradictory beasts
They were conceived to reduce the amount of silk at the neck, but they take up a lot more room for storage
Tupperware protects the scarf, but does take up a lot of room
And poke holes in ti, so the silk can breathe

Hi Everyone! Just started my collection and been educating myself with this thread. Given that a lot of us have been home and probably done some cleaning and reorganizing, I’d love to see any new systems you’ve devised!
I settled into a staggered system of 3 categories because material weight matters most in our warmer climate. I have fewer than 60 right now to keep up with in 4 drawers and 8 or so display cylinders.
1. differentiating material first (silk, cashmere, cotton, etc.; moussies with cotton because weight pairs temp)
2. size if drawer space limited (90s silks in one drawer, 70s with 60-50-40s etc.)
3. color (individual sort by color within size & material type)
4. exception: all sizes of cashmere-silk blends are in same drawer—it’s a big drawer!

Thank you for these details. What are display cylinders? I think your idea of grouping by size is a great one.

What are display cylinders?
@Jbizzybeetle posted them back here. Reposting the image because we can always use more eye candy
