Total synchronicity! I've actually been wearing my anthracite MP as SotD, unlike @xincinsin I only have one in each of the 2 extra cws it came in a few seasons ago. Most neutrals don't work for me but I've found my own. :ghi5: to all the MP twins (or double twins :graucho: )

Here with purple and soft black tweed and sheepskin vintage (early '60s) suit jacket (I have the skirt somewhere too). I don't do Instagram, can you tell LOL?

All right, dear scarfies, I'm hearing some questions about what "neutral" means -- and since I have the same questions, this seems like a good time to learn.
Here are a couple of scarves that in my mind I'd call "neutral" -- I actually had both of them on today and ended up choosing one over the other as "more neutral" with my mushroom taupe top. I'd love to hear your opinions/thoughts.
1. Fleurs et Papillons de Tissus

2. Pierres d'Orient et d'Occident

Which would you choose as "Neutral"? (Both? Neither?)
Which one would you have worn?
And why do I have two scarves that look so much alike? (No answer required on this forum.)

The first one is definitely neutral.

Two more neutrals today. One I wore earlier. Jardin de Leila and the mosaic mousseline I wore this afternoon as it was a lovely warm day!:flowers:

On another note is there some trick to taking selfies? My angles are not the best...

Thanks for letting me share!:flowers:

Love the way you used MP to accessorize that amazing vintage jacket, papertiger!
You put together THE most incredible outfits... would love to peek inside your closet. :amuse:

Both are neutral to me because I'm very primary colour, but the bright birds in Pierres lead me to wonder if neutral can also = unaccented. Today I have on jewellery with fiddly bits, so to avoid snagging, I only tied a twilly round my wrist. But the twilly's mint green is actually echoed exactly in the mint green crystal of my pendant and earrings. So did I co-ordinate to the point where I "neutralized" the accent colour?

I've also come across this phrase in the SS and FW scarf threads where someone describes a cw as "wears/reads like a neutral" for them. Always wondered what that means. Does the cw suit their hair/complexion/preferred clothing colour so completely that it blends in and does not register as something separate (as in brown hair, brown jacket, brown scarf)?

I used to know a woman who swore that purple and leopard were both neutrals. She used them the way I would use dark brown and beige, so I suppose that for her they functioned as neutrals? Her fashion sense was very . . . er, bold, so it worked well enough for her, though it's not for everyone.

I agree, xincinsin -- but a scarfie might call a carre neutral for several reasons. I know, for example, that both Pierres and Fleurs et Papillons (the ones I discussed above) are usually bright and colorful, so my colorways are definitely muted. Are muted colors neutral? Sometimes.
I ended up wearing Pierres today because the taupe border blended well with my taupe top and, even with the pink, I thought it was a calmer combination than the higher-contrast black and white of Fleurs. But I'm only gradually working my way into white scarves, so it might be a neutral to someone else.

Dans l'Atelier de Robert Dallet
-- monochrome for sure, and it matches the top, but does that make it "neutral"?

If you called it neutral with a matching top, is it still neutral on a contrasting top?
