My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

I just sat down with my scarf spreadsheet, and here are the learnings:

I bought a total of 55 scarves this year, excluding my husband's gift. Among them:

  • Age:
    • The scarves range from 1964 (Les Coqs) to 2020.
  • Mode of purchase:
    • 18 (~1/3) were bought from the boutique.
    • The rest (~2/3) were from various other online sources (eBay, TRR)
      • I am surprised at how many came through those channels. But I do enjoy a good vintage scard.
  • Sizes:
    • 35 scarves (~2/3) were 90 cms; that's standard for me. I also bought:
      • 3 x 140s (unexpected -- I thought I would buy more large ones)
      • 1 x giant triangle (unexpected -- I thought I would buy more large ones)
      • 6 x 45s (a lot, considering I only wear them for horseback riding).
      • 3 x 70s (fewer than I thought)
      • The rest are various odds and ends like maxi twillies, one regular twilly, etc.
  • Mousseline status:
    • 5 scarves (10%) were mousselines
      • Disappointing as I hoped for more.
  • Color:
    • 23 (42%) were red / predominantly red (I am not counting red lines or splotches)
    • This means that 3/5th of the scarves were NOT RED.
  • Artists:
    • 6 (11%) scarves were by Alice Shirley
    • Cathy Latham and Robert Dallet are in the close second with 5 and 4 scarves, respectively
  • Special edition status:
    • 10 (18%) were special and limited editions, which is something I have been enjoying this year.

I will start actually posting some of those scarves tomorrow. I think I have never even shared some of them...
So interesting! I love stats like this. Thanks for sharing. Imagine -- 3/5ths of your new scarves are NOT RED!!!

Beautiful holiday scarves! I especially like the red colorway of au coeur de la vie.
I adore your Patchwork Horse and remember when you first posted it. I almost purchased as a result
but ended up with the blue/green Kawa ora instead!

Wow! What an amazing green!

Fabulous 2020 additions!

Great look! You have some really great Grand Nord colorways.
Thanks - I do like the VdGN design and the CWs I have kept!
Love love love this colorway!

You had me at green! This is lovely!
Thank you!
congrats! Great CW!

you may be right. I didnt buy the original release, but always admired it. I also think the kawa ora in the same color family was more popular.

congrats! Twins on this!

Haha! Excellent point!

Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you kindly! Yeeesss----- You must definitely ride the moussie train at some point!
Love this deep green on you moma!

 I love it! I have a few oddities categories for this year too.
Thank you, BC. Greens are still fairly new to me and I love this hunter green especially. Any idea what is the H name?
Congratulations twin! Lovely!
Thanks, Croisette - I want to show the red berries in the center!

27 Dec 2020 The Oscarf: Best 90, Best CSGM and other Oscarf-worthy categories (copyright Cookiefiend!)

Happy last Sunday of 2020, my dear scarfie friends! It seems as if it was yesterday that we began our yearly silk adventures here on SOTD, and here we are wrapping up the year... And, what a journey it’s been! We are all, no doubt, ready to say goodbye to a most challenging year and poised to welcome a new one full of hope and possibilities.

I think that we all agree that 2020 was a year that will live in infamy, except where our silks are concerned, for we have witnessed a marvelous array of scarves here every single week. At moments where we have been sad, anxious and troubled by world events, our little SOTD corner of the world has been a spot of beauty, comfort and joy.

And, now, we get ready take stock of all of the wonderful scarves that have entered our collection this year and to, once again, hold our very own Oscarf Awards ceremony! For, where Hollywood has the Oscar, Scarflandia has the Oscarf, courtesy of our dear Cookie.

This was a very interesting year for me as I purchased my first mousseline scarves and fell in love with this format, adding a total of five to my collection. So, I will begin by giving my Mousseline of the Year award to my very first moussie and the one that remains my favorite: Offrandes d’un Jour

I also obtained my first Giant Triangle this year, so the First GT Oscarf goes to Kachinas.

But, where I went seriously bonkers this year was with CSGMs, adding a grand total of fifteen to my stash. As I live in a tropical climate, I can safely say that I’m pretty much done and satisfied with my shawl collection. I obtained so many treasures that it’s hard to pick a favorite, therefore I will present my Best Five CSGMs during the course of the week, beginning with La Femme aux Semelles de Vent.

And, the Best Giant Silk of 2020 award goes to Carnaval des Oiseaux

As every year, I purchased scarves from Hermès’ new collections. The Oscarf for Best Scarf of the Spring/Summer 2020 collection goes to the fabulous C’est la Fête, which I was lucky to find in two CWs.

And, the winner of Best Scarf of the Fall/Winter 2020 collection is La Legende de la Foret.

As every year, a variety of silks from past seasons entered my life. Some were long-time Grails for me. But, if I must choose my Grail of the Year, the award must go to Ex Libris en Kimonos in this exquisite CW.

I have been looking forward to this final week on SOTD, as a recount of all of my new scarves has been fun, enlightening and eye-opening. This year has been a momentous one for me, as I acquired a total of sixteen 90s, fifteen CSGMs, five mousselines, three giant silks and one giant triangle. I am looking forward to posting some of them this week. And, I can’t wait to see the parade of treasures that will be shared by all as we wrap up one scarf-loving year and get ready to begin another one full of silk dreams and expectations.
A superb end of year post dear fifi! An impressive array that you’ve attained this year! Delighted to see some grails, La Femme and ExelenK, c’est Le fete, and you’re new love of mousselines! The fur babies are darling and hope they are getting along well! I haven’t tested Remy with a kitten in the house yet due to DH allergies but I think he’d love a little pal. love the Offrands mousse on you and your choices all superbly styled!

My first ever post on TPF! Wearing Rainbow Faubourg 140 shawl! I have had it for one month (first purchase from Hermes shop) and I am loving it! Adds colours to my usually otherwise boring outfits.

Welcome, juzdin, and thank you for posting. While I myself am new to Hermès, I have been wearing scarves my entire adult life. They do add color and life to otherwise boring outfits, just as you say.

Your headscarf is glam, Pautinka!
Thank you Croisette - it certainly lives up to its name!

Now the question is what will 2021 bring us silk lovers? My tansu is so full I must edit before buying anything else. This was one of my fave buys of the year: Cosmographia. I resisted long and hard with many H-excuses like "the unicorn/sea serpent is too small". The true reason was because none of the cws suited me. Then I wuz enabled by the inimitable @lanit who showed the San Francisco CW and I :faint:

I think 2020 was the year when I finally accepted that there was no such thing as too many red&blue scarves  (goes with denim  )

Cosmographia, tied here to show Mr Kelpie.
