My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

I just sat down with my scarf spreadsheet, and here are the learnings:

I bought a total of 55 scarves this year, excluding my husband's gift. Among them:

  • Age:
    • The scarves range from 1964 (Les Coqs) to 2020.
  • Mode of purchase:
    • 18 (~1/3) were bought from the boutique.
    • The rest (~2/3) were from various other online sources (eBay, TRR)
      • I am surprised at how many came through those channels. But I do enjoy a good vintage scard.
  • Sizes:
    • 35 scarves (~2/3) were 90 cms; that's standard for me. I also bought:
      • 3 x 140s (unexpected -- I thought I would buy more large ones)
      • 1 x giant triangle (unexpected -- I thought I would buy more large ones)
      • 6 x 45s (a lot, considering I only wear them for horseback riding).
      • 3 x 70s (fewer than I thought)
      • The rest are various odds and ends like maxi twillies, one regular twilly, etc.
  • Mousseline status:
    • 5 scarves (10%) were mousselines
      • Disappointing as I hoped for more.
  • Color:
    • 23 (42%) were red / predominantly red (I am not counting red lines or splotches)
    • This means that 3/5th of the scarves were NOT RED.
  • Artists:
    • 6 (11%) scarves were by Alice Shirley
    • Cathy Latham and Robert Dallet are in the close second with 5 and 4 scarves, respectively
  • Special edition status:
    • 10 (18%) were special and limited editions, which is something I have been enjoying this year.

I will start actually posting some of those scarves tomorrow. I think I have never even shared some of them...

 Well and truly welcome to the Orange Side! Yes, that slope is very slippery!!!
(My variation is that about 3/5th are not (mostly) blue. And I took about a decade to collect the first 50. )

Unfortunately, just as objects going down a slope tend to accelerate, so does my scarf purchasing... it took me a bit to get to the first 50 as well. This year is the most ‘fruitful’ for sure.

Beautiful intro for for what will be a spectacular finish for 2020 SOTD!

Thank you kindly Croisette! :hugs:

Gloriously elegant Croisette!

 It was a good day!

It was a pic like this that sent me looking for this scarf! I almost got one....but it got away.... So glad you stopped in! :hugs:

Thank you lanit! I know they are both in the exceptional thread, but I haven't looked through it income time so I don't know if the names are there or not.

You made some stellar choices for 2020. The colors in that Giant Triangle are luscious! And who could dislike Tigre Royal???? It's always a winner!

Beautifully bright moma!

awww man- now y'all are going to make me go look at the video.... Love it!
Thank you BC! I hope you get a Horsawards one day - I think it's a very under-rated scarf. Talking of stellar choices (thank you!), oh my goodness, what wonderful scarves you have just received. Glass beads are so perfect for you and the thought of a leather-trimmed scarf sends my mind into overdrive thinking of how soft it must be. You lucky lady!!!

DH bought me a new scarf for Christmas. Not gonna lie, I was secretly disappointed upon opening and finding it to be a 70cm and not the usual 90cm I’m used too! However I was still grateful for the lovely gift as I know he thinks these things are frivolous

however I am happy to report, having worn it today that it was still warm and cosy. And I do love the colours and design of this scarf. So all in all I love it. And will now investigate more 70cm scarves!
please excuse the wrinkles (in the scarf) had just taken it off.

the colours are just stunning. Not fully showing up in the pics. Hope it’s okay to share this here. Xxx
This is gorgeous! I have two other cws of this design and I love it. I only have three 70s but am desperate to get more. I have ample 90s now so want to steer away from purchasing them if I can but find that the 70 size is just as, if not more adaptable. I am sure you will soon be adding more to your collection!

Thank you for the wonderful introduction to Oscarf week, Fifi. All of my Hermes scarves were acquired during 2020, so they are all in the running for an Oscarf Award.

I like colorful scarves with interesting designs, and I tend away from horse bit, military, colonial and hunting themes. However, I have been inspired by many of you to look at vintage designs as well as neutral colors, and that leads me to my first Oscarf Award of the week.

Yesterday's scarf mail brought me a scarf from 1948 by Hugo Grygkar, which makes it my oldest scarf, as well as being older than me. Chevaux de Cirque celebrates the horse as a circus performer. I love the large ostrich plumes and I can almost hear how the bells jingle in rhythm as they trot around the ring.

My Most Vintage Award goes to Chevaux de Cirque.

You have had a very busy year building up such a beautiful collection. Congratulations on your Cirque - it looks immaculate and is stunning on you.

Ooh yours looks lovely too! Yes it is a gorgeous scarf, and I want to clarify that although DH thinks these scarves are frivolous, he buys them for me as he knows I love them. And he always puts a lot of thought in to it too. Buying colours that he thinks go well with my colouring. And to be honest, colours I wouldn't buy myself, but actually love once I try them.
I think many of us are in the same boat....partners that just don't"get" it but happily oblige us and allow us our indulgences. And let's face it, there are far worse things we could be doing than buying H scarves (cheaper, yes, perhaps!) so I think it's in their best interests to just allow us to carry on. :graucho:
Your comment on colour made me giggle. When I tried on my new scarf on Christmas Day my DH said, "Why do you never buy that colour? It looks so good on you." To which I thought, "REALLY? Have you actually never noticed I have a gazillion blue scarves in various tones and shades?". But hey, maybe he'll think that I am in desperate need and get me more!!!! :giggle:

Thank you, Fifi. My scarf collection is a direct result of the pandemic, and having a pile of money from cancelled activities, and lots of time to search for scarves. I am a collector by nature, but I try to actually wear my scarves. Selecting a scarf and an outfit to share with all of you daily has brought me great joy.

To date, there are 90 90 cm silks, 2 CSGM, 7 moussies, 5 70s, 2 bandanas, 3 45s, and 1 100 from the men's collection. 31 were purchased new from Hermes, with 12 from the S/S 2020 (including 4 Les Artisans!), 9 from A/W 2020, and the remainder from earlier years. 22 scarves were purchased used from eBay, 24 used from TRR, and the remainder from various other vendors. I have paid over current scarf list price for just three scarves, Jaguar Quetzal, C'est la Fete, and Noel au 24 Faubourg, and the total overage was less than $500.

I haven't sold any yet, because I need to wear them for a while to see which ones I tend to favor. At this point I seem to have enough scarves to cover the various scarf wearing themes, although some of them will require a bit of creativity. (I know I can always choose to wear what I like.) I like the idea that these scarves tend to hold their value, unlike the pearls and other jewelry that I collected in prior years.

2020 has been a most unusual year, and I was generous to myself as far as scarves went. I fully expect to exhibit more restraint during 2021.
Wowsers!!! That is incredible. I am at around sixty in four years and thought that was going some! If DH should ever grumble about my purchasing habits, well, I have screenshotted your post and will say, "Well, I know lady who.......". That is some slippery slope - well done!

I bought 50+ scarves this year, of all sizes. (Does this sound like a beginning of an AA meeting?)

I will be sharing during the week, but my most favorite ought to be the one I got my husband for Christmas — red/navy cashmere and silk one. Because I am allergic to cashmere, he knows I cannot steal it, so it’s true love
Gorgeous Anna - and perfect for the holiday season. I am loving reading about others' purchases - it's making my spending habits look so tame! :giggle:

Somehow got too busy to post this last week. Here are my 3 holiday scarves that I have been wearing frequently this month.

1 neige d’antan which I featured early last week
2. au coeur de la vie (2007) - not Xmas theme, but very christmassy red and green combo.
3. Noel au Faubourg View attachment 4939089

and actual SOTD and my favorite new CSGM from 2020 ( ok it was also my only CSGM this year). Patchwork Horse. This colorway with blues, greens and purple matches or goes with almost everything in my closet. not sure why it doesnt seem very popular( has been on USA h.com most of the year). It ties beautifully. Here worn with a new cashmere cardigan.

A beautiful festive selection, scarf1. Patchwork Horse looks so amazing when it's tied.
Dear Scarf, festive, elegant, gorgeous, and my twin! :hugs:View attachment 4939121
Beautiful, Karenska. I think the striped hem was one of the most beautiful edges H have done.
So nice to see you, Pautinka, and sending you holiday blessings. That is a gorgeous photo of you! I love both your offerings- such a grand design. Horscars! Really? Horseawards is so much better.:girlsigh:
Thank you Karenska. Yes, it was a couple of years ago now but I think the French site had it down as The Horscars. Somewhere I have a screenshot of it.
These are amazing... wonderful additions!
Thank you kindly Fifi!
Beautiful holiday scarves! I especially like the red colorway of au coeur de la vie.
I adore your Patchwork Horse and remember when you first posted it. I almost purchased as a result
but ended up with the blue/green Kawa ora instead!

Wow! What an amazing green!

Fabulous 2020 additions!

Great look! You have some really great Grand Nord colorways.
Thank you, it's a truly mesmerising colour.
What a lovely collection, such variety and beauty.
Thank you Langsam.
