Toys and games
Time to give our inner child free reign this week!

The H 2018 theme was "Let's Play" and H really played around with the concept. There are plenty of toys in the H archives, so it's not surprising that we can find dolls, bears and all kinds of games popping up in the scarf designs through the years.

One of the first H scarves was based on a board game: Jeu des Omnibus. The original scarf was shown at an exhibition here in Singapore and there was even an interactive app that showed visitors how the game was played.

A favourite scarf of mine is Tour de Monde en 63 Cases which came with a pair of dice and instructions. It's based on a 16th century board game called Game of Goose. Every little square contains a surprise!

Equal in popularity to board games are card games. And while some board games like chess are meant for only two players, card games can mostly be played by many. The average deck can be used for fortune-telling, but I like the intricate designs and symbolism of the Tarot.

Another recent design reminded me of a toy I grew up with: mix and match flipbooks. My mum got me one in vinyl material which she used to distract me in the bathtub.

Teddy bears of course are traditional toys, though much younger in history than Game of Goose.

And naturally toys must have their accessories too. Presenting Brown Bearfoot and friend doing the H it Up with mini Brides de Gala. (I'm looking forward to comparing my mini BdGs with the new crop next season!)

Kids nowadays have virtual reality as their playground. An old movie The Last Starfighter had as its premise that an arcade game was used to train potential pilots in an intergalactic war. Sometimes, when I look at my sons playing their MMORPGs, I wonder if they would freeze or leap into action if an animatronic/alien dragon leapt from the screen.

Children at play is the theme in one of my favourite scarves Triples. The adorable trio hop, skip and jump through all the Parisian landmarks. The scene I like best is their dip in the fountain.

Of course we can't leave out what the media euphemistically calls "big boy toys": the yachts, fast cars and other stuff I blink at when I read magazines recommending what to buy for those who have nothing left that they want or need to buy  Parures du Vent and its impressive array of fast car hood ornaments. I think I can afford a hood ornament, or a hub cap....

Excellent! I always learn something from you - I had no idea those were hood ornaments!

Would love to see your skirt!:flowers:

May I see your skirt please, I will follow your footstep:tup:
Will find an opportunity to wear it and snap a pic

Marvelous intro—and maybe creatvely far-ranging enuf for me to connect something silken.
I'm a strong believer in thinking out of the box and drawing far-flung connections. You can do it, Jbizzy!

Wow, great intro! A scarf made of hood ornaments .... only H would do that!
I can't remember if I knew they were hood ornaments before I bought this scarf. It's among the first 20 H scarves I bought and I might have just gone for it because of its beauty. Google it in another cw to see the design clearly. The subject of the ornaments are either fleetfooted (jaguar, antelope) or winged (several pegasus). You can have fun identifying them using this database created by an avid collector of this category of trivia.

fun day with tying a couple scarves, at my remedial skill level....
Music Maker MMXII, with which I and @AnnaE fell in love when modeled by @xincinsin. It’s a 70cm 2-sided silk twill, different prints. one is vinyl records in a light pink, despite my lousy iPhone piks. The other is a drawing of a recording studio, strewn with records, cassette tapes, musical instruments, etc.

Definitely should try scarf magnets with this one.

Gorgeous Jbizzybeetle! I forgot that H had done a double sided scarf before....anxiously awaiting C'est la Fete now...

Your squash blossom necklace with the white Kachinas is lovely.. as is the white Kachinas!
Thanks so much, Cookie!

Beautiful bunny...
This is one of the reasons I am on SOTD: eye candy especially for scarves that would zombiefy me - desire at a distance

I adore octopii - in art and on my sashimi platter. Shall try this lovely way of wearing a scarf!

You tracked one down! You are an amazing hunter, Jbizzy.

My one and only plisse is an escape artist from knots.

 I know the feeling...

I wonder what was Music Maker's pricing when it was first issued... Definitely not twice the price. (Hint, hint, H!)

And thank you for the tutorial! Must try Bova knot again.
I adore octopii in every way, shape and form... Thanks so much!

What a fantastic introduction! I thought I had very few scarves to share this week, but you have just broadened my horizons! Great examples shared!

As always - really inspiring to read all your comments and I love the eye candy !
I haven’t participated in a while, life’s going way too fast at the moment !
My learnings today :
- just because a design works great on others do not mean it will work for me
- a gorgeous design flat may not work when tied

I have learned that with this new-to-me baobab cat, sadly it doesn’t make my heart sing !

Seriously? It looks amazing on you.

Yes, there's a lot of fabric. I only have one 140 silk and I hardly wear it even tho the print is pretty. When I was working a few years ago I would have it wrapped once around my neck with ends loose. I didn't realize the ends had a tendency to fall to the floor until I rolled over them in my office chair. It was a Isadora Duncan moment.

 so glad you are still with us to tell the tale.

For me 140 silks are best for cool Summer days' coverups. For that purpose alone it's perfect and worth having but I only enjoy the heavier twill too and they haven't done those for a while.

This is amazing tlamdang, love your shirt and you inspire me to create something like this. I already thought about giving a vintage scarf a new life as a fourbi, but now I’m inspired even more. Great work and perfect design, love the detail with the bees too. Such a lucky shirt and unique.
I love it too. I was worry because I choose the bee not the design of the scarf. Then went home and forgot what I choose. So I had a stomach ache when I waited for few months until now.:heart::heart:

oh thank you Papertiger ! well i did let it go... no regret so far ! And since i have found another scarf - Minéraux.
That was my sotd (not on theme !!! Although i might argue that we can play with these rocks !!)
I have no idea how old this scarf is and the material is like nothing i have seen before.. very thick, with a silvery thread. I asked in the « identification » scarf thread but perhaps someone here has seen this before?
