I take a big leather tote when I go and they just wrap things in white paper and ziplocks for me. A friend used to valet at the Four Seasons hotel two blocks away. Another option I've leveraged (pre-pandemic) is to Uber there and back from home.

There’s a public garage across from Cartier by Banana Republic that’s super close. Personally I park at the Union Square or Stockton/Sutter garages, but they’re both farther and admittedly you do have to walk through some shady spots in-between, but I’m a seasoned city dweller and like the opportunity to be outside a bit anyway. I bet our NYC friends would giggle at us a bit for this fear

Aww I understand your nervousness, I was robbed on the Embarcadero at 8 AM (purse snatched) during covid in addition to the other stuff that's been happening. However I'll say it's gotten a lot better the past few weeks, you actually see people around now which is a relief!

But like @duggi84 said I think its about practicing your city senses and being alert to whats around you. I was listening to an audiobook and wasnt paying attention and he snuck up behind me :( so while you shouldnt live in fear definitely pay attention

Hello- Where do you all park when visiting the store? I parked at the union square garage before and didn’t feel safe at all walking there alone with my hermes orange shopping bag.

with increased number of crimes in SF (and union square area feels so shady these days!!), I am trying to see if there’s closer option (maybe meter park?). Thank you!

I ask for a plain white shopping bag, which they stock. Have them put white tissue over the top of the bag and there is not a hint of orange!

Meter parking downtown would be an absolute nightmare; it would take forever to find a space. Back in the day, I used to park in the FiDi and walk to Union Sq, but they have meters everywhere now. As more things open up, there should be people around, which will reduce that feeling of being the only one walking around.

NYC is a safe haven compared to
SF these days. Very very sad how much SF has changed .

I agree, ask for white shopping bag. I often bring a large shopping fabric tote to place my items if making small purchases.

Reading some of the earlier posts about negative experiences at SF boutique is worrisome. I really do hope to get a quota bag some time soon. Is there anyone that can verify that quota bags can be obtained in SF within the last year or so?

This is fair, SF has become a bit more hostile in the past few years, which is saddening. Streetsmarts and awareness are important, but it won’t always be a guarantee.

With regard to the SF store and quota bags:

I feel the recent criticism in the thread about the store is a tad rough, and absolutely does not match-up with the experiences I or other people I know have had in the store as of recent. I don’t intend to invalidate anyone’s feelings or experiences though, as I’m sure those interactions were disappointing and I’m sad to hear about them =(

Quota bags don’t seem to be a big problem, I’ve had a few of offers in the past few months (I haven’t accepted any), as well as a few other people I know of (so it’s not like I’m special). Now a quota bag you might want to accept? That’s harder, of course...just depends on whatever Paris sends these days.

I was offered a quota bag today by my fantastic SA and I accepted it.

Also, I park at the union square lot and I walk REALLY REALLY FAST. My appts tend to always be first thing in the morning and it makes me feel a bit better.

That is a very good idea / tip about the white shopping bag. I sometimes make my DH to go in the store with me so I don't have to come out alone.

Hello there, I am new to this forum even though I have been a reader for a few years. I started my H journey in October 2020 and got offered a bag I pretty much asked for this weekend! I love shopping at the SF store.

Congrats Phoebe! :) That's wonderful. Hearing these stories is giving me a lot of hope and I'll definitely try again now!
