Read somewhere (likely somewhere in TPF) that black/ gunmetal hardware is usually plated, painted, powdercoated (disclaimer on appropriste metallurgical terms). They can (and do) wear at points of friction- not a lot to do about that. Should be longer-lasting at this price-point, yet there may be limits to the process (as in: there may be no such thing as better coating process vs economy coating process).

Any black hardware in my past has started wo wear within first few days. Just what it does...
Yeah, it's making me really doubt bags that don't have brass hardware. The olive one looks like it has a plated titanium coating on the zipper pulls. I had my eye on this bag, but am now having second thoughts due to the peeling.

I can totally relate. I looked at my oxblood last night after seeing the post about the peeling. It has the same color hardware - that polished gunmetal and I'm terrified of it peeling and scratching. I had a large Borough in Alpine moss from last year that had the same issue with the zippers. It started chipping after about 2 months. I am guessing that the brass hardware is more durable. I agree that this is really unacceptable on Coach's part; it is a very expensive bag and they exclude it from discounts. We shouldn't have to worry about the hardware peeling after a few weeks of purchasing.

Yes, totally unacceptable. Funny, I have the Alpine Moss Borough - my SA probably ordered me 4-5 when the problem was discovered. I picked the best of the bunch. I so desperately wanted one. Then to see them go to the outlets....... even with the flawed hardware. I haven't pulled it out to use in ages - but I know my eyes will go right to the flaws now. Oh well.

I did not know this. Definitely something to keep in mind. It's a shame because I love how classy the dark hardware looks. [emoji17]

Yep, black. Both the short handles & the shoulder straps are black. It has officially replaced my alpine moss borough as my fav bag. Hope you love it!
So tempting; I want to order one too, but hoping Rogues will be included in the next PCE, whenever that is. I also love the denim blue too. I tried it on in my local store yesterday, had a denim skirt on and it looked like it was made to go with the skirt. It would look awesome with jeans.

Are the new Rogues with out the padlock, lighter than the original ones?
IMO, yes. The only thing missing, which isn't a big deal for me personally, is the lock. I read the leather used for the trim (handles, zipper, etc.) is a different, lighter leather than on the original. Its smoother but unless you had an original side by side, I don't think I'd immediately notice. I also read that the zipper is different but I see no sacrifice in quality, anywhere, with this 2nd generation. I carry it as a shoulder bag & find it yummy & comfortable, which I could not say about the 1st generation chalk that I tried desperately to make work. Others may feel differently but this is just my personal opinion.

Thanks for your input it's very helpful.

I own a newer rogue. I like the newer zipper pull better than 1st generation. The pull seems more substantial. The bag overall seems a bit lighter but it is hard to judge. I do miss the lock but the new zipper makes up for it. ImageUploadedByPurseForum1464635979.658732.jpg
