Can you tell us how you treat your bags, especially the handles? I was not aware of these type of problems and I just got two Bbags and concerned. I plan on buying Apple Guarde spray but what else would be good?

Thanks!

Some members may do it differently than me, or may use different products, but this is how I do it personally...

I use Lovinmybags products Lovin my Bags

Bascially as soon as I get a new b-bag I do the following things:

1) Use LMB cleaner all over. This is a great protectant for spills and anything else nasty that gets on your bag.

2) Use LMB Moisturizer all over (including handles). This does take away shine and veins, but I prefer my bags this way, and it definately helps a thursty bag if you have one.

3) I use LMB for handles only on the handles of the bag.

I would then repeat this process when I feel that I have used my bag quite a bit and I feel my bag needs replenishing.

So far, I have had no darkening of handles, I have been able to clean off a small soft-drink spill on my Twiggy, and have not had any cracking of the handles or anything else for that matter.

I think it also depends on how you store your bags, how often you use your bags and the climate you live in.

Do the ladies who's bags are doing this treat their bags at all?

This has not happened to any of my bags, and they are from 05' and 06' and have had a fair bit of use...

I treat mine, and moisturize them (inlcuding handles) liberally... just wondering if that may have something to do with it?

IMO I have treated my bag very nicely, I've been rather careful with it. I have condioned it once and sprayed it with AG rain and stain several times. However, I haven't "done" anything to the top of the handles, cause the products I have are for leather, so I didn't think I should put it on the laces/"paint".

When I condiotioned it (in january) the "paint" was already pealing. I got the bag in august, but I didn't use it very much since it broke (one of the rivets that holds the shoulder-strap fell off after I had it for a few days). I had it in for repair in october, and got it back a month or so after that. After that I've used it almoust every day, but I have used other bags as well... Even if I used it every day, it shouldn't have became like that on two monts...

I'll contact LVR next week (have to come up with what I'll write to them first, haha), but thanks for motivating me, girls!

Looks like I have to invest in these, the before and after pics are pretty amazing:) Are these products available in stores? Or any comparable products?

i have smiliar "cracking" along the handles of my BI first, but very small. although i must say that judging from the pic here and comparing it to my b-bag, my "lacquering" (i am not sure what to call it) feels more "flexible", soft, and gum-like, as in not as stiff/hard looking as the one pictured here on the red b-bag. not sure when BI came out but seemed that they have learned from their mistake and made the covering of the handle seams more flexible as suggested in earlier post. this makes the crack stop in one spot and did not create further cracks down the line as with the harder one. if anybody knows how to fix this, i would be interested too, even though my cracking is not major at the point. would sending it to LMB to be fixed an option? they seem to be very experienced in fixing b-bags...?

Well, my Blue India Part Time handles started cracking the same way. I thought of moisturizing soon after I posted this thread, and tried some of my LMB moisturizing products on the handles. The moisturizing seems to have at least helped stop the cracking from getting worse.

wow, i guess i'm lucky i haven't had this problem yet :s...i try to be very careful with my b-bags & rarely carry them by the handles...i just got up the courage to put LMB "for handles only" on my bordeaux, grenat & olive bags last night & will see how it goes...i was really happy that it didn't change the color after application...i tried some of the new "shine restore" too, but it didn't seem to do anything...i just ordered the new "silk serum" to see if that works :cutesy:

Bama, I think you will be quite pleased with LMB for-handles only!

It has really protected my bags handles and not left any yucky residue at all.

I have used shine restore, but had an issue with it (got a dud bottle) so I'm too scared to use it again even though Barbra sent me a bottle when I returned the dud Shine Restore for a bottle of moisturizer...

I will probably only try it when I am desperate to get some life back into a really old bag...

oh goody, i'm glad i finally broke down & did the deed :wlae:...the way i see it is like this, nothing LMB could do to my bag would be worse than risking darkened handles...i know some people advise against using products on your bags due to effecting resale value...but if you want to use your bags, instead of hiding them in your closet, the best thing you can do is protect them...as far as resale goes, it seems that nothing hurts a sale worse than dark handles...so, i decided it was worth the risk to be able to enjoy my bag & protect my investment :tender:...as far as "shine restore" goes, i used the new formula that dries without a blowdryer & it didn't hurt my bag, but it didn't make it shiny either...i'll let you know how the new "silk serum" works once i get it!!!

Exactly...

I protect my bags so that they DO stay in better condition, and in turn will sell for more as they are in pristine condition...

I think having a treated bag in pristine condition, opposed to a grotty bag that hasnt been treated... well, I'd prefer the nicer looking bag thanks

I would have no problems with buying a bag that has been treated.

Glad shine restore worked for you! Please do let me know how the serum works!

What's wrong with the old formula of the shine restore (the one that you dry w/ a blowdryer)? Is it faulty? I used it on one of my bags and it sort of worked but it's definitely not the same kind of a shine that a new bag has.

:yucky: this has happened to the handles on my greige city as well  At first I thought I was being rough with it (although I hardly EVER carry my bag by the handles :s), but now this just seems like POOR crafstmanship. I purchased this bag from NM...I wonder if they can help me out?? :shrugs:
